CyberAlmu | 302 comments In Spain, there is a very ancient tradition. Although we now call it Saint John's Night, because it is the saint of the day on our calendar, it really is a pre-christian celebration of Summer Solstice.

We lit up bonfires when night falls. Then, we dance and jump over the fire or the embers.

And you? Do you celebrate the shortest night of the year in some way in your country?

Sandra | 25911 comments In my case, longest night of the year - I spent it playing on the computer cause I couldn't decide which book to read. LOL

Judithe | 6566 comments Very cool!

We do absolutely NOTHING. How boring...

Embarrassed to admit I'm not even exactly sure WHAT night it was....

Sandra | 25911 comments I re-read Last Dragon Standing (Dragon Kin, #4) by G.A. Aiken cause one of my gr friends started the series and I saw it on the update, then just had to read the latest one. LOL.

I've always thought the Solstice was 21st June and 21st December so it was Tuesday night.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Ummmm...let's see...oh yeah! Tuesday night we spent in the basement because of tornado warnings. Yee haw. ;)

But no, there's so special summer solstice stuff around here. :(

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments It's really cool. I'm sure wiccans do solstice stuff, but if large groups of people did that out in the open here in the US, they'd probably start up the witch trials again... :(

Thousands of people visit Stonehenge in England every year for Summer Solstice including pagans and druids.

Sandra | 25911 comments Isn't that just typical of people, leaving rubbish & climbing such an ancient historical site.

Still it looked like everyone had a great time. I've always wanted to go and see Stonehenge, since I studied it in school, oh so many years ago.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I'd like to go and see the Cerne Abbas Giant, and if you click on the link you'll understand why when you look at the photos. *innocent smile*
