Proud Gaian When i read this book, i was delighted about how it would switch to different peoples perspectives. i love reading and seeing how different people react to the same situation.

I read this book over the summer, and i'm 14. i sincerely think that you should be very mature before reading this book, because it can get extremely graphic. i recommend this book to all stephen king fans because this is one of his best that i've read.

Al- This is one of my favorite Stephen King books too. However, it is one book that I actually liked the movie better...the movie held true to most of the book, but the end was more plausible and fitting.

Yes, it's one of the best book-to-movie adaptations there is. However, I was very angry that they made Jack, and not the Overlook, the bad guy, when he was as much a victim of the hotel as his family.

Atarah Poling I highly enjoy all of Stephen King's works. The Shining was well written. Agreed you should be highly mature at reading because it can be a lil graphic but very enjoyable all the same.

Paula *********Maybe slight spoiler*****

I loved the part about the wasps coming out of the empty wasps nest. Poor Jack knew that something evil was going on. A couple of years ago I got into my car and wasps flew out of the vents. I did an Overlook freak out!

Victor, I agree with your point that the Overlook was the bay guy not Jack. Jack moved his family to the Overlook to get his life, family and writing back on track. Jack wsa in a fragile condition and he just wasn't strong enough to fight off the influences of pure evil.

C. J. Scurria Very great haunting book. I am sure everyone has a favorite part. . . I always remember that special room that the boy has to stay out of. . . good part. Very scary.

Did anyone see the Stephen King-made tv-movie? That part in the book is done really well in this adaptation. . .

Jamie Sinclair Evening. I saw the TV movie, the one with Rebecca de Mornay in it? King was very much involved in that one, given how much he disliked the Kubrick film.

I liked the TV version, I liked the way they recreated the book. The thing is, to most folk, the kubrick version is definitive and I suspect more people have see that than have read the book largley because of Jack Nicholson's tour de force performance.

But in terms of story and accuracy the tv version is the one.
