Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Lahni. This looks like such a great group. I love to read but don't always make time for it. I read from many genres already so this should be fun. I got The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon from the library not to long ago so I will be reading that for this month.
Welcome Martina, Erin, Lisa, Renee, and Lahni! I love that several of you have already chosen a book to read for September's Latin America shelf!
Hi everyone. I am Brad. I started out on Goodreads over on the Sword and Laser group reading science fiction. I love the idea of branching out from my regular reading shelf so I was excited when I saw this group. I already read The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon so for this month, I am going to be reading Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw
Wow, lots of new members. I love it! Welcome to everyone. This is a great group and has really helped me to expand my reading, especially this month, lol. Even though I grumble about the shelf choice sometimes, I love this group and it's concept and have read some great books that I never would have come up with otherwise. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
Welcome to the group everyone! It is nice to see so many new people. This was the first group I explored that was not linked to a face to face group. It still remains one of my favorites! It is fun to get out of your comfort zone sometimes! Hope you enjoy this group too!
Welcome, Brad! When I first saw the small version of your avatar, I thought you were recreating the visual of Locke (from Lost) eating the orange. But when I look at the larger version, I see it's not that at all! Is that a duck caller?
Hi! I'm Lynn and I'm a book addict ... though I suppose many of you are, too. I have 7 other Goodreads groups and 2 local book clubs, so it keeps me reading! I like the idea of having a group where I get to pick my book(s) each month instead of having specific books listed and I am hoping that the shelf-pick idea will help me stretch the boundaries of my normal reading. I read a pretty eclectic list of books, but there are areas that I know I miss and others that I read waaaay too much.
Hi everyone!I'm Chris from ever sunny England and I've been a member of Goodreads for a little while now, but thought it time to finally jump in and join a group.
Have had a quick peek around and it looks like it might indeed be a lot of fun. I'm particularly looking forward to getting involved in the monthly reading challenges, especially with the opportunity to choose my own book within the genre.
And that's about it - hopefully get to know you all a lot better in the coming weeks!
Hay LynnB - It's Lyn from the Chunksters group. Welcome aboard. This is a great group. I hope you like it!
Hi Chris - this is a great group for broadening reading horizons. Being able to choose your own book is one of the things I like the best about it also. Have fun!

Welcome LynnB and Chris! LynnB- It will be great to share another group with you. This one is a fun one!
Chris- Hope you enjoy the fun and flexibility of the group!
A big welcome to our new members! I hope that you'll love this group as much as I do! I've had such a good time reading from different shelves--some have really stretched my normal reading boundaries :) Can't wait to see what you'll read for our September shelf (Latin America)

Brad wrote: "I was on a Duck Tour of Baltimore (a duck is an amphibian vehicle). These were the duck calls that they give you on a tour."I thought maybe that's what it was! I went on a Duck tour in Seattle. But they charged for the duck calls, so most of us didn't bother with it. Which was a relief, actually. :)
Hey guys, I', new here, still very lost, but catching on.I live in New Zealand, most people in other countries think we are a part of Australia because we are so small, but no we are an individual country... a shame we aren't even marked on some maps =(
Anyway, I am 11 years old... and stuff. Yeah! Bye.
Hi all! I thought it was time to join a book club and do some more reading. I noticed that this month topic is Latin literature. So, I had to join! Besides my love for Latin literature, I can appreciate all genres, well I think almost anyway ;-)This should be a great reading challenge!
Welcome, Susan! I'm Susan as well.
Lyn M and Lynne LynnB and ... Should we do something to our names so people can tell who we are? If so, how?

You can edit your name in your account settings, Susan. Or we could start calling you Susan (of the cat) and her Susan (Drama) - as long as you don't change your avatars. :)

I like "Susan (of the cat)". :) I rarely lie down to read a book without him instantly arriving to be part of the fun!

Hi, My name is Carolyn. I love the idea of this Pick-A-Shelf! I often stay in the same genre when I read, however I truly would prefer to mix it up a little and expand my horizons! So thanks Pick-A-Shelf for giving me a little nudging in that direction! Also, I am looking for friends on Goodreads! Please take a look at my bookshelf, and if we have similar interests feel free to friend me!!!I am looking forward to reading with you all!
Hi everyone! I'm Kristen, 22, from Nova Scotia, Canada and I LOVE to read!! I mainly read fantasy but I am open to everything, which is what really drew me to this group, a chance to read books that I normally wouldn't think about!
Cheers!

You can call me Susan(J). There´s a big chance I’ll change my avatar ;-)
Cheers!
hey hey all........pull up a comfy chair or couch.......and join in.........my reading has opened up immensely since joining this group.....welcomek
Yo I am a 16 year old senor at Niagara Falls HS. I love to read books most of them are fantasy, unless it is school ordered. I've read a wide variety of books and I'm continually reading.
Susan wrote: "Luann wrote: "You can call me Susan(J). There´s a big chance I’ll change my avatar ;-)"Sounds good, Susan(J)! Although if you do change your avatar, but not your name, you might have to remind us! (or at least me!)
Welcome to the group, James!
Hi everyone!! I joined this group a few days ago and I am just now getting to introduce myself. My name is Monica. I am 42 years old and live outside of Philadelphia, PA. I have to grown children, a boy and girl. I love to read and am always looking for new genres to try. I look forward to joining in the month of October.
There don't seem to be many posts recently on the "p. 46" threads. I'm wondering, since we've had so many new people join us recently, if it would be good to re-explain what those are and where to find them each month. I'm not sure where the best place would be to post such a message, but I leave the idea in the hands of our capable moderators. :)
Welcome Jennifer and Monica! @ Susan... I love posting on the pg. 46 thread, but I have been doing audio books recently for the books for the shelf and it is hard to figure out where pg. 46 is. I will try to post next month though!!
I usually like to post one or two pg. 46 quotes as well, but so far this month I have only read a short story for our Latin America shelf. I'll have to look at it again and see if I find a quote I like somewhere in the story.Do you think we need to say more than: You're welcome to post a quote from your page 46 (or choose a quote you really like - we aren't very strict on the page) from one or two of the books you read for our shelf of the month. You'll find the thread each month (with very creative titles by Lynne and/or Lyn M!) in our "Book Reviews & Quotes" folder.

No, I don't think you need more than that. I just think that many new people who didn't browse through all the old threads may not even know the quotes thread exists each month. But how you described it seems exactly right.
Thanks!

Hi everyone, My name is Adhityani but I go by the nick Dhitri. I currently live in Canberra, Australia. I am new to goodreads.com and obviously new to this group, but I have been an avid fiction reader for most of my life. I've only recently bought a Sony Reader and that has sort of stepped my reading pace up a notch! Very excited to be joining this group and I hope to be contributing to the discussions real soon.
Welcome to the group, Dhitri! This one is a great group to be a part of! I hope you have as much fun reading off the monthly shelves as I do.
Welcome Dhitri!! I would love to know what you think of the Sony Reader. I have been trying to decide which e-reader I would like to get.
Monica wrote: "Welcome Dhitri!! I would love to know what you think of the Sony Reader. I have been trying to decide which e-reader I would like to get."I love the Sony Reader! Particularly because of the intuitive note taking abilities (touch screen and stylus) and the option to expand storage :) e-ink very friendly on the eyes and page turning is pretty fast. Unfortunately it doesn't have wifi or 3G so there is no browsing and direct downloading from Reader store, but that's alright for me, I can go online using my Mac or mobile anyway.
Feel free to PM me if you need more info :)
hey Dhitri......welcomeand thanx monica for the review on the sony reader....will have to look into that one......is it like a pda with a backlite?

Not sure what u mean with backlite, but it uses e-ink technology, which emulates the type of brightness and contrast of a black and white paperback print, very soft on the eyes.
Hi...I'm new here...I'm a little confused about the shelves and shelf picking etc(maybe I'm a little slow!)but anyway...look forward to getting some new ideas and expand my reading.
