Hi my name is Krys and I am from Canada. I love to read just about anything that I can get my hands on. I love going to used book stores. I love the musty smell of old books. I used to work in a library but not as the librarian but as a security guard. I love to talk to people from other parts of the world and see what other people are reading.

Hi, y'all. I am Bea. I am interested in this group because I think I get stuck in the mysteries genre. In the past six months, I joined my first group on Goodreads - Seasonal Reading Challenge - which has caused me to spread my wings a bit into other genres. I am hoping this group will continue that exploration for me. Shoot, I know that there are genres I never heard of and know little about...so here is to exploring the world of books!

Thanks for the welcome, LynnB.

Thanks, Luann. I am still trying to figure out it all so I don't think May will be much of a participation month for me. That grid thing with the challenges is a bit of a puzzler.

Hi I'm Kimberly and I love to read vampire books or anything dark to read. I'm obsessed with vampires. The books that I have a Manley vampire books
Hello everyone! I have a history of getting stuck in one genre, particularly fantasy and mysteries, and I have a real hard time getting to non-fiction books. I have read with the Reading with Style group for the last year and it has really expanded my reading. I think participating in this group will push me a little further. I like the idea of reading shelves and I am particularly looking forward to participating in the ROAR challenge.
Welcome, nsfancy! You sound exactly like me (re: fantasy, mystery & NF) :)
Reading with Style is fun and I do hope you will enjoy ROAR.

Hello, I'm Emily.I'm 15 and I live in Los Angeles, USA.
I'm here for all the same glorious reasons as everyone above and below this post.
I also like cookies.
Hi, I'm ayanami. I'm here to expand my reading and hopefully discover some great books outside of the genres I normally read. I have a couple genres I really love (dystopian, classics, yaoi) and tend to stick to but I thought it's time that I see what else is out there. I've already discovered some things that look interested just from taking a look at the reviews members have made for past challenges. Nice to meet you all! :)

What is "yaoi"? That's one I've never heard of.

Susan wrote: What is "yaoi"? That's one I've never heard of.Ah, sorry, I wasn't really being clear! It's a genre of Japanese manga (comic books) that is basically gay fiction, romance between guys, etc.
Hello everyone! :)I'm Cate, 22, from Pasadena, California. I come armed with a Barned & Noble nook. Buuut I still love physical books.
I love historical fiction especially anything about the Borgia family. I also love military history. Not much on YA but I can be persuaded lol.
Currently reading: The Art of Saying Goodbye: A Novel by Ellyn Bache. I won it off GR First Reads.
Hi everyone! I'm Alex, a horse veterinarian from Romania currently living in Vienna, Austria. I love books and reading, and I unwind best from work with a good book. Because I get "stuck" easily in a genre or author (If I like it, I will read the hell out of it), I decided to try I group that will help me expand my horizons! Currently I am fixated on Japanese writers, sportive non fiction (is that even a genre? touching the void stuff...), good chick lit, beat poets and YA (trying to get out of the comfort zone). Some favorite authors: Amelie Nothomb, JD Salinger, Haruki Murakami, a few of my favorite books: The Bell Jar, Shantaram, Into the Wild. Thank you for having me here! :)
Hello! I am also an Alex, although i am just a recently graduated student in Melbourne, Australia (nothing as interesting as a horse veterinarian!). I came across your group kind of randomly and it sounded interesting so i thought i'd give it a try. I may start my participation next month though, since on my most recent book splurge i bought a whole stack of books that i simply MUST read asap.
My favourite genres are science fiction and fantasy but i'm really into comics, graphic novels and manga at the moment. I used to really love young adult fiction but i keep picking up bad ones recently which is making me a little put-out with the genre.
I look forward to meeting some of you :)
Hello all! I recently joined because I want to get out of my funk of only reading Young Adult, Urban Fantasy and Fantasy. I've already glimpsed a few threads. LOVE the quote threads. Can I ask where picking page 46 originated?
Thanks and hope to join in on the fun soon! :)
Hey everybody. Newest (to my knowledge anyway) member here. My name is Jessica, I'm 23 years old, currently residing in Charlottesville, VA and working at my first real job (salaried, benefits, etc.) post-college. I am a bookworm to the definition but I find myself only reading historical fiction whenever possible. I saw this group and knew it would be not only a lot of fun, but good for me since I seem to have a hard time breaking out of my comfort-genre.
Can't wait to chat with you all!
welcome Jessica and Ashley!!Jessica - did you go to UVA? (if so, boo hiss...lol!) - I went to the other school and loved the football rivalry between us and you guys
Welcome, Ashley and Jessica!@Ashley: Read here for the first page 46 thread, which explains how it got started.

No, I did not go to UVA. I also went to the other school! Go Hokies! : ) I just happened to find a job at UVA and pounced on it. So naturally, I wear my VT stuff as often as is possible. : )

Hi, my name is Kurt. I read just about anything I can get my hands on... I love to read!!! I stumbled on this group and knew I just had to check it out! Again, I read just about anything, but my favorites are horror, fantasy, history and thrillers!I never go anywhere whithout a book in my hand, because you never know when you may have a minute or two to read a few pages.
Hello, all! I'm Mimi, a librarian in Pennsylvania (at a small college)and I'm an undisciplined reader these days! I read several books at once, and I don't always finish what I start(I think this may be an occupational hazard). I read a fair amount of non-fiction, am very interested in women's history, psychology, and Buddhism, and am drawn to memoirs (I especially liked ones by religion scholar Karen Armstrong and food critic Ruth Reichl). I'm currently readingThe Most Human Human I'd like to explore more fiction and maybe even some classics. I'm saddled up for July!
Mimi wrote: "I'm saddled up for July!"Ha! Love it!
Welcome, Mimi! I'm a school librarian - and working part-time this summer at my public library.
Hi! I'm Diana from Texas. And I love reading! I take a book or two everywhere I go: Ballpark, movie theater,restaurants,etc.... I love to read different genres too. So I'm very happy to find this group!!!
Hi! I'm Vi from Singapore. I'm a sporadic one-genre reader. I binge on a genre for months depending on my mood. Right now I'm into romance and urban fantasy. I'm trying to expand my reading to non-fiction and others and challenge myself at the same time :)
I'm Lynn. I was in this group a bit back, but I think I got overwhelmed by trying to keep up with the ROAR reads. I realized I missed the shelf reads and how they stretched my choices in books, so I'm back with the group.
Welcome, Vi! Welcome back, LynnB! I haven't been able to keep up with ROAR reads, either. Even the monthly shelves have gotten away from me a bit lately. Luckily there is a new chance to try again each month! :)
Hello everyone! I'm Vaiolet, a "starving student" from Sydney, Australia :) I read anything (although my bookshelf contains mostly books I read in my early teens, my most prolific reading years so far!) and I am one of those people who CANNOT stop reading a book halfway (although I often develop a complete repulsion towards the "unreadable" book which slows me even more..!). I also hate borrowing books, probably due to the fact that when I moved to Sydney 2 years ago I had to leave all of my books behind, so I will never be able to catalog them all :/ Ok, by now you probably know I am somewhat of a perfectionist =P But I'm not too bad I promise.
I really hope to find some great books through Pick-a-Shelf. This is the first group I join, I am very excited!
