Hee, hee. I just realized that my post made my parents sound stupid. It really isn't that bad. I went to an elementary school where I could go at my own speed in math so I was doing Algebra, and Trig and such in 5th grade. Then, my dad realized he could figure a lot of the geometry trig stuff, he did it every day at work, he just never realized that is what he was doing. When they went to school, it was all called math. :)

Emma Biochemistry
I dropped it because I hated it so much.

message 53: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I'm all done with finals (yayayaaa!) None of my classes were truly awful this semester, but I hated going to Aural Rehab... mostly b/c it was a night class. Night classes are the WORST. I always feel like everyone is hanging out and having fun while I'm stuck in class. Anyway, Aural Rehab wasn't hard.. but kinda blase for my tastes. At least I know that I'd rather do speech pathology than audiology.

message 54: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (hippsdontlie) Astronomy 195 was the most mundane experience of my life. The teacher persistently made the same jokes every day and he thought it was funny to throw objects across the room (trash cans, staplers, chairs) in order to demonstrate physics properties. The latter would have been okay; however, listening to the crash of a chair on a hard linoleum floor every morning at 8am can become quite obnoxious.

message 55: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) I have only ever not liked one class that I have taken in seven semesters of college. Speech was my nemesis. I got a D in it the first time, re-took it and got a C. It was at 8 am, I'm pretty sure I was allergic to my professor (I sneezed any time he came near me), and I learned nothing of value. UGH.

Bárbara (leviathan_) As of this semester, Theory of Democracy. It's also my lowest grade so far.

Bárbara wrote: "As of this semester, Theory of Democracy. It's also my lowest grade so far."

Lol, I think that sounds pretty cool Barbara! Could you tell me a bit more about it? What books did ye have to read for it? What course do you study?

message 58: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara (leviathan_) I'm in Political Science and International Relations. Some of the things we learn about are democratic transitions (for which I had to read The Third Wave Democratization in the Late Twentieth Century), quality of democracy, majority rule, competition, populism, argh. I hate this so much. Another book I read for it was Democracy and Its Critics, and we also read a bunch of texts from The Global Resurgence of Democracy. Also my teacher is absolutely terrible. He's Italian, not Portuguese, and doesn't understand some of the things we say.. so he just says it's wrong, but when someone else rephrases it, he accepts it as correct.

message 59: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 02, 2010 02:47PM) (new)

I'm sorry that you disliked it so much, Barbara. That tacher sounds really annoying! What do you think of your course in general though? As an aside,I did an exam last year on politics in the EU, and Portugal was one of the countries I had to write an essay on! Portuguese politics are very interesting!

message 60: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara (leviathan_) Well, I have to admit I like IR much, much more than Political Science. I know it's important to know the classic works such as Plato and Machiavelli and whatnot, but yknow... I thought one would talk more about today's politics. That and I'm not very good at it in general haha.
I think our political history is interesting; the way we do politics nowadays, not so much.

Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl.com (miss_jana) | 125 comments I hated my drawing class. We had to sit on these awful drawing benches that are so uncomfortable... (You straddle a wood bench and then there's a little ledge to set your drawing board and paper up against. There's no back to the bench to rest against.) Anyway, the class was 2 and a half hours long twice a week and we were not allowed to talk. So we just sat and drew weird objects the teacher found in some secret closet, in silence, forEVER. Eventually the prof. loosened up and let us listen to the radio.

message 62: by Zach (new)

Zach Irvin | 27 comments death and dying. the title made it sound pretty awesome, but then it turned out to be an ethics class. lame.

message 63: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara (leviathan_) I had problems with online enrollment this year so I signed up without even thinking - and as I needed two other classes within my course, I just signed up for Theories of Justice.

Worst class ever. Two hours speaking of ethics and moral nonstop, I gave up 15 mins into the class. Fortunately I can change it for something else - which I did.

message 64: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) Worst class so far: Meteorology.

My dad and brother do that for a living, so I figured I'd have plenty of help on the side. Unfortunately, I'm absolutely horrible at science, and because I was one of the last groups to register, that was all that was available to me.

The only reason my D in the class ended up as a B was because the professor put curves on the exams and everybody always failed. I have all my other confused classmates to thank for not having my GPA crushed.

message 65: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Economics.
I got an A in high school, but this professor just does not know how to teach. He is used to online classes, so that's how he runs everything. I do good on our online quizzes and assignments (As or Bs), but the actual exams I fail.
I have actually stopped going to class and am teaching myself everything.

Kelly | 308 comments Jana wrote: "I hated my drawing class. We had to sit on these awful drawing benches that are so uncomfortable... (You straddle a wood bench and then there's a little ledge to set your drawing board and paper up..."

Completely agree Jana. I had to take two Drawing classes. I was a photography major, so had no skills of drawing...it was horrible. Those benches would just kill your back too!! Not to mention we had to draw nude people as well. It's no wonder I switched my major lol

message 67: by Jules (new)

Jules (randomisedhabit) | 123 comments I'm taking a mandatory statistics class this semester. It's been three years since I last had any maths... I used to like it, but getting back into it is going to be hard, and I doubt that this class is going to be anything but dry.

Oh, and even though I really liked last semester's Intro to Synchronic Linguistics class, the second part of it (mandatory again... the joys of just having started) is going to suck because the teacher makes me feel like I'm back in seventh grade. GAH. I want to keep my good grade, but I'm doubtful I can with this kind of teacher. I need someone to challenge me! :(

Jules, I'm also in a mandatory statistics class this semester, and I can say without a doubt that it is my least favorite class.

message 69: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
That is because stats really isn't fun. I love math and enjoyed my math classes. I detested my stats classes. The instructor probably added to that too.

message 70: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) Speech. No thank you.

message 71: by Jules (new)

Jules (randomisedhabit) | 123 comments Jessie, Tami, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I seem to have all these guys sitting around me who are wild to get going.

Amanda: Oh yes, lectures on research methods totally suck. Had one last semester, have a different one this semester.

message 72: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Studies in Shakespeare. Fantastic subject. Worst. Professor. Ever. He never stayed on subject. He always went off on tangents that had nothing to do with the play we were reading. His favorite things to talk about were how his dad died and how unfair it was, how his niece was sexually abused by her father, how his wife annoyed him. He was a dirty perverted man who liked to say things like "We're having nice weather, I expect you all to get tans. I'll be doing exams to make sure that you do!" I mean, that could have been funny but the way he said it... *shudder* He also had a very short temper, he liked to hit the whiteboard a lot. I never learned anything new about Shakespeare or any of his works either. I got a good grade in the class because I sucked up to him in my papers. Made him feel like I was actually paying attention to him. I'm actually taking the class again next semester, my favorite professor is teaching it and I want to actually learn something. Especially if I want to teach at the college level.

message 73: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments MAT 161, hands down. The subject was disgustingly hard, and the teacher, Dawn Vowinkle was by far the worst teacher I ever had.

Everytime she started a class she kept telling us where the door was if we wanted to leave...what a real promoter of higher learning.

message 74: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (missjackieann) Statistics was my least favorite class

message 75: by Brittney (new)

Brittney (spookieboogie) Philosopy hurting my chances of getting into the Honor Society!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

Sociology, I felt depressed through the whole class.

message 77: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) Biological Anthropology. Part of me feels as if that class is worse than math and will probably make me weep more (before checking my GPA) than pre-calc. I have taken it twice and dislike the teacher more than the subject.

message 78: by Beth (new)

Beth I'm a statistics and math major, so alot of my classes had the potencial to suck... the worst ever was Intro to Real Analysis, a number theory class. The teacher droned on in a heavily-accented monotone the entire time as he wrote out math theorems, and he hated questions. He never gave out any homework, and the tests were 4 theorems that you had to prove that were 25 points each. Not one person made an A in that class... I barely escaped with a C and that was one of the high grades.

message 79: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (sugardustedbooks) Not liking my research approaches class right now. It's just stressing me out.

That's not good. BioAnth was one of my favorite classes! My prof was amazing and very well researched and accredited. I find that the greater I like my prof the greater I enjoy the class...

message 81: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I really really hate Accounting. I just can't pass the class! I'm going to have to take it for the third time next semester. I do just fine on the assignments, it makes sense when I can glance at my book or my notes but I freeze when it comes to the tests. So frustrating!

message 82: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I am sorry Kimberly. Maybe I could pretend to be you and take the test? :) Wait a minute. Didn't a bunch of kids just get in trouble for that recently? Maybe not such a good idea. I wish I could help on the test part though. Good Luck.

message 83: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments haha, thanks Tami! :)

I've signed up for it next semester with the best professor in the department, and this time I get to take it in class and not online.

message 84: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Have you thought about getting a tutor, Kimberly? I hate math and I have a tutor plus I study on my own. He (my tutor) pushes me to work without a calculator or looking at the formulas. It works for me. Good luck with your next class.

message 85: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (krs209) | 8 comments Business math. It's terrible!!

message 86: by Mirra (new)

Mirra (Mirrkat) | 7 comments I know this post is a bit late, but anything math related is an automatic dread for me. However, I have to say, surprisingly math has NOT (for the first time in years) been as bad as Bio, and Chemistry, and the sciences. Unfortunately the career I have chosen requires me to take on a lot of sciences and labs. When it comes to the work and labs, I wouldn't say I particularly enjoy it, but I don't really have a choice. Its a lot of work and I have cried before lol. Basically I love my career choice and helping people, but hate the pre reqs. grrrr

I also think a good professor makes a huge difference. We all have that one teacher whether it be present or past that could get through to us like no one else can.

message 87: by Merc (last edited Mar 19, 2013 11:34PM) (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) I have been pretty careful with not taking any classes that will hurt my soul but I can say I have taking biological anthropology multiple times and it never goes right.

I missed the mid-term for it once and the teacher wouldn't let me take it late since it seems like it only took her 2 hours to correct all of the tests which meant spring break for her. I retook the course, with the same teacher, and I have no idea what happened but I do recall the teacher yelling at me for not attending the class daily as if I didn't A) Know she taught exactly out of the textbook and B) take the class a quarter ago.

Oh, and Women's History. It's never the topic that I don't like, it is the teacher. This teacher had to be the worse one I ever had. Seems like she isn't employed as a teacher anymore though.

Beth wrote: "I'm a statistics and math major, so alot of my classes had the potencial to suck... the worst ever was Intro to Real Analysis, a number theory class. The teacher droned on in a heavily-accented mon..."

I had a teacher that did that. He basically forced all the students to take their questions to other math teachers or to the tutors. After class, so many students would go to Class 2.0 aka large group tutoring sessions.

message 88: by AMDG (new)

AMDG (julietlafontaine) For me, It's speech/public speaking and Psychology. Public speaking make me so nervous and anxious that I rushed through my entire speech super quickly in a shaky, nervous voice and then took too many long pauses and forgot what else I was going to say! I ended my speech terribly lol. It was my first assigned speech, and my instructor, who's really nice, said to bring in note cards next time and that I was on a roll until I suddenly overcame with nervousness! Ugh. I have three more speeches left and I am not looking forward to any of them!

The next class I choose is Psychology. I thought it would be a cool and interesting class, but instead, I can barely stay up during it! The lectures are so basic and the class discussions are annoying!

message 89: by Adam (new)

Adam | 83 comments I don't remember too much from my first undergrad. I remember hating a course called Accounting Information Systems, which didn't have much to do with Information Systems and had much more to do with basic book keeping. The teacher set the course up in such a way that just about everyone failed the first time around. You had to do all these things outside of class at a time designated by her. So you could never just "do your homework on your own time" you had to show up for pre-arranged sessions where you worked on this giant stupid thing.

I changed fields entirely, but the next class I didn't like so much was a graduate course called Applied Linear Algebra. I mean, I don't even know if I dislike this subject the organization for this was so confusing. There was no applications to anything... the professor just told us all these stories about how he had cancer and how Linear Algebra was used in all these different situations. We never even modeled any of that, he just told us to do questions in the book, which he wrote! And his book was not very clear it was all heavy analysis stuff, which I was somewhat confused by because there were no examples of any kind in his book and I usually quite enjoy analysis and pure math far more than the applied stuff... so I should have loved the course.

Adam, NOTHING could be worse than our AIS class. Our teacher had some type of weird thing going on that had nothing to do with accounting, more like computer programing. I totally understand where you are coming from on that front. I worked at the time at a CPA firm and he would get so mad when I told him and the rest of the class that this had nothing to do with Accounting work in the real world. If you want to teach a "system" that would help the most people, make it a QuickBooks class. :)

message 91: by Adam (new)

Adam | 83 comments Yeah that seems a lot more practical to do a quickbooks thing. I feel like even a programming level would make more sense than what I did. We seriously did hardcore bookkeeping with pencil and paper. Our text book talked about computers, but then our actual assignments had NOTHING to do with using a computer. Ever!

Brittany | 11 comments I think mine was an amazing class called "computers in education," and the culminating project was a PowerPoint presentation a lá those wonderful 7th grade projects that had to include animations and clip art. No so useful to those of us born after 1975.

message 94: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 26 comments I would have to say my American Government class last semester. My instructor flirted with everyone in the class and talked more about Buffy the vampire slayer and criminal minds than government.

message 95: by Chris (new)

Chris Kasparoza (kasparoza) | 4 comments Worse class I ever took was MacroEconomics.
Maybe because I was a first semester freshman and ended up with a .9 GPA.

message 96: by Chris (new)

Chris Kasparoza (kasparoza) | 4 comments Best class I ever took there was World Religions. Once a week for 3-4 hours, every class there were 3 presentations about an hour each on a different religion. The one on Scientology was hilarious. Then we went on a field trip to a nearby Lakota reservation and did a sweat lodge. Great time...

message 97: by Michelle (last edited Aug 13, 2014 09:07AM) (new)

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) It was Chemistry. The professor would not stop her lecture to explain anything if you didn't understand or talk to you about it after class. If we read the book and still had questions, that was tough luck! And she would give us homework that had examples from the textbook, and she'd mark the answer as wrong even when you copied it directly from the book (she did that to me and at least one other student in my class). She only lasted at my college two semesters.

JosephinaUtt | 1 comments Hey. My favorite lesson in school was writing. I like to write a lot of papers, while my classmates were buying papers here - Paperial - is the case study writing service. The service was helping my classmates get good grades, and I was doing everything by myself.
