Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) I have the lovely privelege of taking College Algebra...I hate math and it has put me so behind since I've had to take developmental courses before getting here. I was supposed to take statistics too, but they aren't offering it the second summer session since college algebra is a pre-req. Plus, I can't find it anywhere else to take that will transfer over or is the right stat class. Ugh! Sometimes I wish math was never invented.

Michelle (shadowrose) This upcoming fall semester I'm taking English 1102, Faces of Culture, Intro to Anthroplogy, Music Appreciation, Us History I.
The music appreciation class is simply one of those they make you throw in there, it was the far better choice of the others I could scedule. It'll be my first semester taking major specific courses for Anthro considering I was a Biology major the first year, so I'm fairly excited to get things rolling

Last week of Summer Semester! Yay! oh, and class has been canceled in both except for one more day!

message 106: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments Next semester I am taking Linear Algebra and Differential Equations.

I don't know how I feel about either yet. Linear Algebra I have heard horror stories about and I am looking forward to differential equations but it is four days a week. blah

EEEWW! Math and I aren't friends. You wanna do my college algebra class for me right now? Hehehe...I acutally made a 91 on my first test, so hopefully It won't get any harder.

message 108: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments There are time where I was back in college algebra, it sems so easy now. I would rather take math classes than english classes.

I guess you have to like math if you are majoring in it and minoring in physics. ;)

message 109: by Jess (new)

Jess In the fall, I'm taking Mechanisms of International Relations, International Security, Calculus (finishing up my math cluster), and Christian History I. I'm also trying to get into History of Jazz, though that would put me at an overload.

I really should have taken calculus before senior year...

Summer Semester is Done! Yay for taking the condensed version! Free from school until August 24.

More power to you! I barely passed my physics class with a C last semester. I had a horrible prof who didn't know how to explain things well. She had no syllabus or grading scale and kinda winged it. Why elementary ed majors have to have physics and chem is beyond me!

message 112: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
So you can judge the projectory of flying objects the kids send your way, and know if that goo is safe to clean up with water? :)

message 113: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) LOL!! So THAT's why it's useful! Thanks. I won't have to wonder anymore. ;)

message 114: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments I'm glad you're here, Melissa. I was afraid that I was the only math/physics major in the group.

Astrophysics/cosmology, represent.

message 115: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (literaryomnoms) Kelsey- where do you go to take all those classes? They sound really awesome, I recently decided I no longer want to get my teaching license and I have been looking at what I want to do with my life, and working with the deaf comes to mind. But around where I live I don't think there is much of anything like that.

That was my major before I met my fiancee, who is in the Air Force, moving in August so he can get his masters in astronautical engineering.

I changed my major to math have a degree in something I will be able use more, since we will be moving alot. I am still going to minor in physics, but it is the astro that I really love.

message 117: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) Four more days of college algebra...I can taste the freedom!!

message 118: by Jess (new)

Jess I added a fifth class to my fall schedule: History of Jazz! I can't wait.

message 119: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Sweet Jess. I'm jealous.

I don't know what I'm taking yet. I have transfer orientation in August, and I can't register until then. I know I'll be taking Music Theory, Ear Training, Band, Oboe Lessons, and maybe a Musicology class or a methods class on some instrument. I'll just have to see.

message 120: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments Danielle: That's a really interesting mix of courses! What's your major?

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to take:
Elementary Russian
Advanced French
World Politics
Physiological Ecology with lab

I am very excited for all my classes, although I checked on ratemyprofessors.com and both my World Politics and my French professors are rated as really hard and my bio professor wrote us an email saying the phys eco class was a really intense class.. So basically it looks like I managed to pick nothing but hard classes :D

message 122: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments When I saw that you were taking a combinatorics course, I... was very happy.

Pure math, represent. That's my field of study, in case you were curious.

As a Comp Sci major, I assume you're familiar with recursion theory?

message 123: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments I know exactly what that means. Haha, that sounds quite fascinating/arduous.

message 124: by Jess (new)

Jess Emily wrote: "Sweet Jess. I'm jealous.

Sorry, Emily - I never caught where you were transferring to! Where will you be this fall?

message 125: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I can't wait for my classes to start and for the 15th of July so I can quickly drop that Biology class I don't need any longer. I'm also trying to figure out how to get credit for my intern ship, college is starting to become fun now! It only took a year of horrible experiences to get to this point. lol

message 126: by Emily (last edited Jul 06, 2009 11:21AM) (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Oh, I used to go to UNC Chapel Hill and now I'm transferring to UNC Greensboro. They have a great music education program there. I'm pumped.

message 127: by Jess (new)

Jess Emily, that's really cool. Good luck!

message 128: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments That's pretty cool, Danielle! There definitely aren't enough girls in the applied sciences. Where are you studying?

message 129: by Matthieu (last edited Jul 06, 2009 12:29PM) (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments Danielle: :)

Is this combinatorics course your first venture into the realm of pure mathematics?

message 130: by Molly (new)

Molly (slinkyxo) | 153 comments When does everybody start back in the fall? What does your schedule look like?

Mine is pretty decent this semester. A bunch of easy classes at desirable times.

message 131: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I'll be starting my first semester in grad school for my masters in journalism. I'm only taking 4 classes but the program is intense! I have one class that lasts from 9-5! Can you imagine?! That's a full time job, haha. I'll need plenty of coffee to get me through the day...

message 132: by Jess (new)

Jess Wow! Anastasia, that's an insanely long class. What is it?

message 133: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I completely agree. I am not sure I could sit in a class for that long. Work training doesn't even last that long. Crazy.

I start up again August 24th. Should be the last semester for my bachelors! Yay. Then on to the Master's program.

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

The fall semester for us starts August 24 here in Phoenix too. I'm technically going to be a senior... but I think I've got another year after this one to go before graduation (switched majors a lot! lol!).

I'm taking Critical Analysis of Animation (I've been waiting for this one!!!), Astronomy, a theater/film orientation class, Bioethics of Film, and Foreign Film and Film makers. I'm pretty excited for this semester. I think it's going to be a good one. I wish I was taking a botany class instead of astronomy, but alas... "Patterns in Nature" was all full. :(

Anybody got their school supplies ready yet? I'm heading to Walmart this week to grab some composition notebooks (can never have enough of those... and at only $.50 a pop!) and probably a new back pack. I work at an office and take all the pens I need (shhh!), but I think that's about all I need. Maybe a new planner though...

message 135: by Jess (new)

Jess In the fall (I think I posted this already), I'm taking Mechanisms of International Relations, International Security, Calculus (I've kept putting this off), Christian History I, and History of Jazz. I'm pretty excited for all of those classes except Calc.

I picked up some of the Mead notebooks on sale at Target last week. They're not as nice as the Five Star ones, but frugality means I have to make small sacrifices ;) I haven't needed to buy pens in years because I always find loads of them, so I think I'm all set with those. I do love school supplies though!

message 136: by Erin (new)

Erin I'm waiting till I get down to school to pick up the last of my needs. I might change rooms and roommates, so I don't know what I'll need for my room. My actual school supplies I rarely buy because I usually have so much to pick from already. Its another thing that has to wait until I know the demands from my classes.

I have two horse classes, psychology of human development, intro to public speaking, and ag system technology. I'm excited for the psychology class and the horse classes are always fun. I don't know if I'll like the public speak or the ag systems class. I have a feeling the ag systems is gonna be boring! And the public speaking will be a whatever class. I'm also waiting for the purge date to switch my classes about a bit and get another class in. If I can't I'll look into getting a campus job.

message 137: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) Jess wrote: "Wow! Anastasia, that's an insanely long class. What is it?"

Its a "Craft" class, which means that you basically learn/apply all things journalistic. Lots of writing, editing, researching, etc... I'm getting tired just thinking about it! Hopefully it won't be that bad, though. I'm feeling optimistic... for now

message 138: by Shelly (new)

Shelly | 13 comments my major is materials science and engineering.
so i have to learn chemistry, maths and physics.but i love to learn more about phychology and language,.
i am engaged with my germany class. in spare time, i read a lot about phychology books.

message 139: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I have to go back August 11th!!!! b/c I'm an orientation leader and we have training for that and then orientation and then classes start on the 19th.

I'm taking 4 classes but might add a fifth plus a practicum and they all start after lunch (sans practicum). But I'm tutoring again this year and I'll be a student ambassador so I'm sure my mornings won't be completely free.

Diagnostic Procedures
Human Behavior in the Social Environment
Advanced Speech Pathology: Voice and Fluency Disorders
Aural Rehabilitation
and I might add Creative Writing II (I'm so sad I won't have any Lit or Theology classes!)

I got my Diagnostics book yesterday and started flipping through it and I found myself thinking "Can I really be good at this?" A lot of times I catch myself wondering if I can.

Wow, some of you have some really interesting classes! Ahh..this is SO weird that I won't be going to school this year!!

message 147: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Well my semester starts this Thursday and I'll be taking:

- Introduction to Anthropology
- Faces if Culture
- US History I (to 1865)
- Music Appreciation
- English 1102

Pretty good schedule. The only complaints I have is that my hand will want to fall off from the amount of writing that will probably be done in each class.

It'll be a relaxing way to start off the year. I'm excited for the first two. My first major specific classes! I'm not stressed over them, which is amazing because my freshmen year was the definition of stress.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) Alright this is going to sound a little odd but here we go... I am graduating after this semester! This is what I am taking.

Internship
Social Problems
Intro to Sociology
Social Psychology

I will be graduating with a degree in Sociology which is why I find in funny that in my last semester I am taking Intro to Sociology.
