fiction or non fiction.

April I just started "Tantalize" by Cynthia Leitich Smith. The Austin setting is actually a negative for me because it is making it harder for me to suspend disbelief on the vampires and stuff.

Skye (skye_elysia) | 1 comments I kind of enjoyed the Austin setting in Tantalize. Granted, I don't think it necessarily ADDED anything to the story, but it was kind of nice to be able to imagine exactly what the setting looked like.

Rick | 6 comments My favorite is Bradley Denton's Lunatics . Perfectly captured the divergent kooky elements that make Austin unique.

Sam (colossusofaustin) | 1 comments i have never read a book, seen a movie or heard a song that accurately describes to me what living in austin is like or what the city is like. though i bet there are a good number of zines out there that come close.

Rick | 6 comments The Gay Place is available in most new and used book stores in Austin. I really doubt that the University of Texas Press has any plans of taking it out of print any time soon. On top of that, the book is required reading for several UT classes.

Do you have access to info about the book's future that the rest of us don't?

Rick | 6 comments Which store is that?

I've emailed my contacts at UT Press. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out what is going on. As soon as I uncover anything, I'll pass it along.

Rick | 6 comments From what I've been able to gather, UT Press plans on keeping The Gay Place in print for the foreseeable future.

Have you tried getting it directly from the press?

Rick | 6 comments Got this directly from UT Press Marketing Director David Hamrick regarding The Gay Place:

"To my knowledge Brammer will remain in print. We do license the rights but i'm unaware of any problems on that front. Sales are modest but it's too important a book to let it go. We've just reprinted a three year supply."

Dottie (oxymoronid) What about the China Bayles/ herb titled mysteries by Susan Wittig Albert? There are central TX/Hill Country settings in those which make great light mystery reading.

by Turk Pipkin
A wonderful coffee table book with interesting articles about the founding of Barton Springs and how important the natural wonder is to our community.

Katie (katie_jones) | 2 comments Dreams and Shadows by C. Robert Cargill; A darkly violent urban fantasy set in Austin

message 15: by Ty (new)

Ty (tygaribay) | 1 comments while most of Rick Riordan's excellent Tres Navarre series was set in San Antonio, the episode "The Devil Went Down To Austin", was set in Austin and really takes advantage of the setting to move the story along. this is the 4th book in the series, but i actually started here, worked back and then forwards again. also all of the Tres Navarre books are excellent...towards the later entries, it was clear that Riordan was losing interest, but even those were entertaining. enjoy...
