I find myself using the library in town for the sole purpose of borrowing books on tape/cd. I only do this too in the summer when I am working on projects and want to listen to something other than music. We have a great library, but I find I can never finish a book in the two week window I have the book out for. Having said that I did take a book out this summer from our school library, but I don't have to return it until school starts up again. How about you guys?

Then you can be our inside source. How long does it really take to process a book. At our library it is on the card catalog, but is in processing for at least a month.

Steve Chaput (stevec50) It depends on the book or item. Bestsellers are usually processed within two-days of receipt, unless it is before the official release date. Donations can take up to a week. Most new books (print & audio) are in & out within 3-4 work days.

Thanks, Steve. We have a wonderful library, but things like the processing of the aforementioned book and other crazy things always tend to happen. Also our library seems to have almost too many people working that they stand around talking and don't wait on patrons. I wish it was run better. If you feel like moving to PA anytime soon, I'll put a good word in for you at our library. :)

Steve Chaput (stevec50) Sorry to hear about slow service, but I know that most Library workers do their jobs as professionally as possible. Of course, we all have our moments when we become more social than perhaps we should be. I am guilty of that myself.

I've worked in libraries in Connecticut, New York and here in California. I think I'll stick around here for a while, but thanks for the invitation.

Angie (angela_pistun) | 6 comments With kids I find I am in the library pretty much once a week. The programs they have for kids are amazing. Always something going on. And, we love getting out videos, music, and of course books. Unfortunately, I am not really a browser at the library. Even with a 3 year old, we are in and out just grabbing whatever looks good off the shelf. What I really love are the displays of kids books that are easy to grab. And, when I have time, the Rapid Reads display typically has something that I can finish in the short time allotted.
