I'm pretty fast, or at least I'd like to think so. I could read 2 300 or so page books a day, more when I have the whole day free. Just depends! I know theres people out there much faster than me though!

I think I'm like you Christina. I am able to read faster but I don't retain as much information if I do. I like to read and take my time so I really know what is going on in the book I'm reading.
Im not exactly sure what 'reading speed' is, because people who read 'slowly' actually only spend an hour maximum in a day.... I am supposed to be able to read very fast because i usually finish books in one day unless its a huge book like eragon or the ask and the answer that has more than thousand, two thousand pages. However, thats only because- when I start reading a boook, i get obsessesed! I will simply keep reading until im done. I finished the whole Harry potter series in 10 days, and didnt do much else... And when im reading constantly like that, and I get really into the book I tend to skim a lot, especially in the boring description places ;)
Actual reading time for a book of about 300 pgs. is a few hours, but it might be spread out over a day or two depending on how much time I can devote to it. I usually don't like to start a book though unless I know I can engross myself in it. I'm glad it is summertime!

I read about 100 pages an hour, but that's because I partly-skim with most books. The average book takes me two days to read, I'd say. If it's a particularly long or dense book, it might take me a week. If it takes me more than a week to read something, I consider that a very long time ... Haha. :P

Sounds like a good plan. :P I have difficulty giving up on books, even if I hate them. If I really hate something, I'll at least glance over the rest of the book just to get the basic idea... Of course, there are exceptions where I just flat-out stopped reading.

I think I read moderately fast. Probably like 100 pages in an hour, like a lot of other people here. I think I read Catching Fire in three hours, so that sounds about right. It usually takes me 1-3 days to finish a book, but I've been reading Going Bovine for like, five, days today.
I try to read 100 pages per day. I work full time so sometimes get too tired at night to do this, but I try.
You've got me wanting to time myself now. I have a feeling that I only read about 50 pages an hour. :( But I have been distracted a lot lately while reading so I really don't know for sure.
Hi my name is Jenean and I'm addicted to reading.....lol I have to say that if the author writes well and it is a good story then I can devour the book in a day no matter how many pages. I'm sick about reading......I read while walking, folding laundry, cooking, any chore that doesn't require using my hands. :-)
When it comes to reading quickly, a lot depends on the genre and the writing. I can zip through a romance novel or a light book of approx. 300 pages in less that three hours...Other books take more time. As I get older, I retain much less of what I read.
I zipped through The Awakening and The Reckoning on Wednesday. If I really like a book and time permits I can get it done in 2-6 hours.I read HP 7 from 7 am to 10 pm the day it came out, and I had read the other 6 in the previous week. That's gotta be my biggest literary reading accomplishment to date haha.
Heh, the last book is going really slow for me actually ... O_o I feel like I've been reading it forever and I still have like 300 pages left. I like it, but it's sooo looooong.
Yeahhh. Haha, actually I read Breaking Dawn in a day ... I'm not sure how I did that. O_o I think I did a lot of skimming.
A normal sized book (between 300-400 pgs.) takes me approx. 3 days to read, if I actually am into it. A big book like Breaking Dawn or The Host (for example) took me about a week or two to read.
How long I can read for depends on how much time I can devote to it and the size of the writing. One 200 page book usually takes me between one and two days.
hmm...it depends on the length of the book and whether or not it is boring.normally let's say a book like marked takes me about an hour and a half while the last harry potter book takes me about 3 hours
i always finish books the day I start them unless I'm busy and at school/
Yes, Deni, you're fast! :-) A book that is 200 something pages I can finish in one day if I'm not busy online or doing other things. I finished one 400 something page book in 3 days I think. Could've done it in 2 days if I wasn't online so much. XD
I think I'm at about Charmaine's speed. My biggest challenge is that I'm so distracted doing six things at once, that my reading speed goes way down. This summer has been fantastic as I've read more books this summer than I have in years. Its letting me explore books that I've just never gotten around to reading. Wonderful.
well it depends on how interesting a book is, how long it is, and what kind of book it is (fantasy,YA, sci-fi ect.). if its interesting itll take me 1 1/2 days....... if boring, most likely 3
I'm a moderate reader. I usually take about 1-3 days for a 400-paged book. Unless, I have the whole day for free, I could finish 2 books within the day... (At least I think so, I've never had a whole-day-off so far, school's getting busy!)
I used to be a pretty fast reader, but I'd skim a lot. So, I'd miss some huge parts sometimes. So, I stopped skimming. I read every single word now, and only with dialogue do I skim. I just find a book a lot more delicious when read word for word.
judging by my mood, I can read anything < 500 pages in about 2 days or less. anything > 500 pages, can take me from 3 days to about a week.

Haha, that's my problem. I skim a lot and occasionally I'll miss something important. But usually when that happens, it's because I don't find the book too interesting in the first place...

I always have thought myself to be a fast reader... In school, whenever we have to read something or whatever, I always finish, and look up expecting a few other people to be finished... But its always just me, looking around while everyone else reads! Aaaahhhhh.....
I am not a slow reader but I am a careful one and will re-read pages if I feel I missed something. I think that is why I can't enjoy some of the fluff books out there like Mortal Instruments -- I mean there are a lot of words in that monster book I am not a good skimmer. Call me a book snob but I feel like if it is a good author I shouldn't need to skim.
MORTAL INSTRUMENTS FAN HERE...SAY NO MORE BEFORE BOTH OUR EGOS ARE HURT.
Lol. I'm just kidding. I really don't care. I agree that fluff books don't need every word to be read. But I read them anyway unless the book is so butt sucky.
Like just dialogue. I hate that.
I'm like, "Oh, look, some monologue..."
Lol.
I don't like skimming though...
Don't do it anymore unless I'm like multitasking.
I don't mind fluff books as long as they're exciting/funny/etc. Mortal Instruments aren't the best-written books in the world, and I did skim sometimes while reading them, but I found them enjoyable because of the plot/characters/humor, so on. :]

I am all for fluff too -- I guess I meant overly wordy fluff books are not for me. Books like The Heist Society or Anna and The French Kiss are my kinds of fluff because they are short and sweet. If fluff is too long I tend to overanayze, which is not a great idea when you are trying to lose yourself in a book.

Anna and the French Kiss is like 400 pages long ... lol. Pretty long in my opinion. ;) But I guess I know what you mean. Some fluff books go by much faster than others.

Was it really 400 pages? It seemed so short!

Yes, I agree. :D
Very fast. 600 pages pretty easy, about 100 pages an hour for easy "fluff" books and maybe 40-60 for harder classics ;)

Ooh, I got a digital copy of Froi free from NetGalley. I must get around to reading it soon... :]

Well, like everythng else that needs 'exercising', reading is being included as well. I mean, during the most busy times of the year I don't read too fastly because I'm tired from the whole day's things...but in summer, I am like a bookworm- 150 pages per hour or so ;)
It depends for me... but usually no less than 100 pages an hour with really dense books like textbooks if I am giving it my full attention. It depends. Sometimes I will forcefully slow myself down to try and enjoy it more. I can read a 400 page book in 2-3 hours frequently, especially if it isn't really dense material.
That said, If I let myself read all I wanted to it would be hard to remember all the books because I could easily read (since I am not working or in school) 21 books a week! D:
21 books a week?!!! Nice.I could potentially read 2-3 per day, but I never do...1 a day is my stopping point, I like to read a book, go for a walk, think about the book and characters, if its really compelling I could mull over it for a week or two. Of course since my kids came along I'm lucky if I get an hour in the evening to read.
