I could potentially read 2-3 per day, but I never do...1 a day is my stopping point, I like to read a book, go for a walk, think about the book and characters, if its real..."

Yeah I am the same. I read for about an hour per day - sometimes like yesterday if I am off I read for 3-4 hours. If I am lucky I finish 3 books per week :)

Haha I think I'm about the same as you, Heidi. If I have a lot of spare time I usually finish two or three things in a week, depending on the length/density of what I'm reading.

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments I have never timed myself to see how fast i read, but you know I'm going to tonight!
My problem is i often choose a magazine or watch TV over reading a book and that slows me down.

Haha dang. Most books take me I'd say around 3-4 hours total.

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments So I timed myself last night ( oh yeah! I know how to party!) I was a little sad I only got through 73 pages in an hour. I would have thought that was average speed, but after Rissa's post I feel like a snail!

hahahaha! I am right there with you on the party spectrum Kara! I read between 50-100 pages in an hour. I think this is relatively normal???? I hope so at least!

p.s. I am not a skimmer - I basically try to read every word (sometimes I skip long descriptions) :)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Haha me too, Heidi. I think I usually get through close to 100 pages per hour but it definitely depends on the book. But I do tend to skim a lot unless the writing is super-duper amazing.

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Heidi (Seriously. Trust me.) wrote: "p.s. I am not a skimmer - I basically try to read every word (sometimes I skip long descriptions) :)"

Me, too, Heidi. I read the descriptions just enough to picture something in my head then skim the rest of the paragraph(s).

I'll have to time myself tonight, but I think I'm probably in the 50-100 pages/hour, too.

message 63: by Kara (new)

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments Sometimes i skim descriptions, but then i feel like i miss something and end up reading whatever i skipped. So i just read every word and give up on the book all together if i feel like skipping too much.

message 64: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (hoggman) i can read faster, but i prefer to read maybe 70 pages an hour? i get more out of the book that way. and yeah, it definitely depends on the type of bok as well. The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien has taken me months to read, but ive finished others of the same thickness in a matter of hours. and im sure you didnt mean this, but of course i can read graphic novels in about an hour regardless of thickness.

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I get what you are saying Autumn - when I read a fantasy book like Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta it takes me longer because they are describing a whole different world so I feel like I have to read every description versus a current world book where I can kind of skim the descriptions.

Babyfacedpreacher | 10 comments @Heidi and @Autumn I'm with you his on the skimming, I'm a bit of a story junkie so I like to learn the story as soon as humanly possible. My re-read stats actually tell me more about how I rate books. Re-read means great story and worth going back over. One read means the story was compelling but the writing and characterisation was pretty rubbish.
I get soooo bored with descriptions...actually I think that's why I like YA sci fi but not adult sci fi! The worlds are described much more skilfully!

Kellie (kelliesbookvenue) | 10 comments Depending on how good the book is, I'm pretty fast. Or so I think so :p

I agree, that way I get a lot out of that one book. Especially when they're series <3_<3

message 69: by Justine (new)

Justine (justinen) I'd like to think I'm quite fast lol. I did a reading speed test a few days ago and was 454 words a minute lol. I can easily finish a book Ina few hours. But saying that it wouldn't have for then 400 pages lol. Unless it was super amazing. I've read 126 books this year. If that means anything lol. But then again I don't just read I have a full time job. If only reading was my job (looking off dreamingly).

message 70: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Justine I wish I could read as a job too - but then I think sometimes if you get what you think you want you end of hating it (i.e. if I were like a book editor I would end up hating books or some such nonsense). My full time job defiantly gets in my reading way too! *sigh*

I have no idea how fast I read! It's all relative with me.

message 71: by T.Lynn (new)

T.Lynn Odom (tlynn_odom) | 5 comments I always thought I was a pretty fast reader, but ya'll are amazing. I guess I can read about thirty pages an hour. Again, that's just a guess!

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

I tend to read books in one sitting. aka one book thats 300 pages it might take me 5 hours.if its 500 pages it might take 2-3 days.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I think I am a moderate to fast reader. Depending on how the author writes, it can take me anywhere from two days to a week to finish a book.
