Donna | 143 comments I've ordered The Rose of Virtue which should arrive by Feb. 15 and hope to begin reading it soon after that.

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments ARFV has now had it's group read, short but sweet and very perspicacious and interesting comments - as ever - made.
It was no thanks to me , having having discovered I had not got the book to my surprise, shame and chagrin and never did manage to get a copy in time. At all in fact .

Anyway , is it too soon the think of the next ? I know To See A Fine Lady ran ARFV a close second.

Back in post 103 (page 3 in green type at top I think) in this thread our dearest Sylvia compiled a list on books we had not done for a Group Reqd. I think Hester Roon has since then and The Lute Player too.

Yes, we read Hester Roon in the summer of 2014, and The Lute Player in the fall of 2017. (A quick way to check that kind of thing is to use the "Search discussion posts" feature, just under the Goodreads toolbar at the top of every page on the group site, on your right as you face the screen --but it took me forever to stumble onto that, because the lettering is very faint.)

Yes thank you Werner I was aware of that function actually. I was just kind of musing .

Do you have a suggestion for a new Group Read ? I know you might not be able to take part but you do know the NL canon well.

message 605: by Werner (new)

Werner Hmmm! Barbara, I don't know the NL canon nearly as well as you and some others in the group do! But I'll give the question some thought. The first thing I'll need to determine is if there are any of her books we haven't actually done already as a common read --something was posted about that earlier, and as I recall there were very few that we haven't.

message 606: by Werner (new)

Werner I don't recall that we've ever done a read of Here Was a Man, NL's novel about Sir Walter Raleigh, and I couldn't find a discussion thread for it. Written in 1936, this was actually her first novel.

The BC library does have a copy of this one; but this year isn't a good one for me to take part in a read in this group. Right now, I'm waiting for an interlibrary loan book that's reportedly in the mail, and I want to read the sequel after that. I've also resolved to make this the year that I finally read all four of the Jane Austen novels I haven't read yet. We're expecting a visit from the Aussie branch of the family in August, and Aug.-Nov. are the months for annual common reads in other groups. And in December, I want to do a classic Christmas read for a thread in yet another group. So I have a fair bit on my plate already!

True, Werner I don't believe we have done HWAM. I will go with whatever the majority decides.

Werner Sounds good, Barbara!

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments Hey everyone out there, how are we all going ?
I am totally taken over by having a tiny new pup (photo added) and all that entails , especially as she hasn't had her final vaccination so can't go out into the big world yet .
So here I am at home and very keen to start something new on NL Goodreads!!

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Hope little Cora is enjoying her new home! I've been thinking about the next book too. What about Nethergate? We've never formally discussed it. Barbara, I know you don't especially like the "modern" Lofts books as much but The Little Wax Doll is good and so is Lady Living Alone.

Or we could go To See A Fine Lady, I believe, was the last one you had mentioned?

message 611: by Marie (new)

Marie Nethergate would be a delight. A close second is TSAFL. Our spring holiday is just about to start so I’m looking forward to reading for enjoyment.
Looking forward to the group’s decision!

MaryC Clawsey | 712 comments I would enjoy reading either one of those.
