Sylvia (sylviab) | 1361 comments Thanks, Werner, for that tip. I never even noticed those tiny words.

Barbara, I for one, am very comfortable with your current pace. I just hope you all don't mind if I sometimes retrogress on some happening that we passed over, and I, being a slow reader now, was impressed with it enough to comment.

Glad I could help out, Sylvia!

Marie Okay by me. I like this style of discussion.

Oh hello Werner , lovely to hear from you! Are you reading along with us- that would be nice
Yes we know about the spoiler embedding, thank you for reminding us though .

Werner Barbara wrote: "Are you reading along with us- that would be nice "

Alas, no; I'm already committed (since early this year) to take part in a May common read in another group. (That's a one-time read, not an annual one as I participate in with several of my groups.) But thanks for the invitation!

message 556: by Tanya Mendonsa (new)

Tanya Mendonsa Mendonsa | 1026 comments Hi everyone - how about doing a group read of " The Old Priory " after "Copsi Castle " ?

message 557: by Judy (new)

Judy | 2 comments The King's Pleasure about Katherine of Aragon

message 558: by Marie (new)

Marie I’m happy to read either “The Old Priory” [OP] or “The King’s Pleasure” [KP], with a slight preference for OP.

Tanya Mendonsa Mendonsa | 1026 comments Me too !

message 560: by Robert (new)

Robert | 105 comments I have quite a collection of Norah Lofts books. How did I miss out reading Copsi Castle or The Old Priory. Did either of these books have other titles ?

message 561: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Robert, I’m pretty sure those are the original titles.

We’ve discussed The Old Priory in 2012. Also The King’s Pleasure in 2015. I just read through that discussion and it’s pretty good. Won’t brag on TOP since I led that one. But anyway, that doesn’t mean we can’t do new discussions.

Werner Robert wrote: "I have quite a collection of Norah Lofts books. How did I miss out reading Copsi Castle or The Old Priory. Did either of these books have other titles ?"

You might have missed out on Copsi Castle because NL didn't write it under her own name. She used the pen name Juliet Astley.

Thanks Werner -- that explains missing Copsi Castle.

message 564: by Werner (new)

Werner You're welcome!

I'm in a common read in another group right now, and Aug.-Nov. is the season for annual common reads in several of my groups. So that tends to tie me up until sometime in November; but I'll be an interested lurker, as usual. :-)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments I moved the messages below from Copsi Castle, so do please contribute away in this thread away everyone!

Tanya and Karyl said

Tanya Mendonsa | "How about " The Old Priory " as the next group read ? It's short, but packed with juicy characters, and action ! "

To which Karyl replied "Yes, Old Priory"

I like Old Priory and think it would be a good one . As Peggy said, we did it in 2012 with her leading but if everyone is ready to do it again , no problems.

message 566: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments I don't believe we have formally discussed Michael and All Angels ( The Golden Fleece) or Crown of Aloes have we?

So I toss these two into the mix......

message 567: by Werner (new)

Werner We did a common read of Crown of Aloes starting in January 2016, and I took part. (Here's the link to the thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... .) But for some reason, the "search discussions" function in this group apparently isn't working; when I searched for "crown of aloes" just now, it came up blank.

Hmm interesting , thank Werner , I do actually remember discussing C of A, but not formally and like you couldn't make it come up in a search.

So given C of A was not that long ago , I'll just keep Michael And All Angels ( Golden Fleece ) to stand as a suggestion then.

message 569: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments Well everyone, we have Michael and All Angels (Golden Fleece) and The Old Priory as possibles . Any others?

message 570: by Marie (new)

Marie My vote is for The Old Priory, but I’ll be happy with either.

message 571: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I see this is an old thread (very old!) but I'd like to know if there is another book planned for after The Old Priory? if so, I'd like to know about it. thanks!

message 572: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Jackie, I don't think a decision has been made but whenever we start a new discussion, we send an email to all members to let them know. Feel free to go ahead and make suggestions in this thread at any time about books you'd like to discuss.

message 573: by Jackie (last edited Aug 28, 2018 05:24AM) (new)

Jackie thank you, Peggy.
I have Lover's All Untrue and see you did a group read last year so I can just comment there.
I also have A Rose for Virtue and didn't see a thread: anyone want to read it with me? not right away but in the next few months?
I have been cutting back on other internet places (like facebook) so I have more time to read!
I discovered in the Mary Stewart group I really enjoy a buddy/group read at a slower pace.

message 574: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Jackie, we haven't had a discussion on A Rose for Virtue and I would enjoy it, not right away but in the next few months, as you say.

message 575: by Marie (new)

Marie I’m in for A Rose for Virtue. Great idea, Jackie!

message 576: by Jackie (new)

Jackie that's three of us!

message 577: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments Just reading back I see A Rose For Virtue seems to be be popular . Not my favourite NL , but I am happy to go along with the majority, no problems at all .
My suggestion was Michael and All Angels ( aka The Golden Fleece) Any takers?

message 578: by Jackie (new)

Jackie the thing is, I have a copy of A Rose of Virtue in my pile of hardcovers.

does anyone want to start soon?

message 579: by Jackie (new)

Jackie heck, I see a reading of another book just started, one I don't have. if I'd seen it was coming up I'd have looked for it at the library. I have lots of fiction to read, however, so I'll wait until others are ready for A Rose for Virtue.

A book in another group Jackie ? We haven't started anything new here.

message 581: by Jackie (last edited Nov 10, 2018 03:34AM) (new)

Jackie I'm not sure how I made that mistake, but I suspect I had windows open on other groups and got confused.

sorry!

message 582: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Jackie, I'm still interested in A Rose for Virtue but would like to wait a few more weeks if that is OK with everyone that wants to participate.

message 583: by Jackie (new)

Jackie it's all good!

message 584: by Marie (new)

Marie I’m looking forward to ARFV! I’ll watch for our start date.

message 585: by Barbara (last edited Feb 01, 2019 11:29PM) (new)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments Well, after a very long hiatus, not at all planned or even wanted really- but enough of that - I am back and hoping others will come back too. 2019 Norah needs us !

Looking through the latest posts it seems like ARFV has some interest so should we start reading ? Who would like to lead ? I am thinking ( hoping) Peggy might like to.

PS, I see there are lots of positive comments about ARFV (and on NL generally too ) on Goodreads. None of them are members of this group , so it would be lovely if some of them joined !

Above is another contender ,from Tanya. TSAFL is one of my absolute favourites too so I am always happy to discuss it again. We last did so in 2013.

message 587: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I hope we can read ARFV because I have a copy, but don't feel competent to lead.

message 588: by MaryC (new)

MaryC Clawsey | 712 comments I'm game for either one, but I would really like to do TSAFL.

No problems Jackie , do not worry .

message 590: by Ayah (new)

Ayah | 26 comments Hi everyone, glad I can finally do a group read. I'd cast my vote for either title.

message 591: by Robin (new)

Robin Grant | 79 comments To See a Fine Lady is one of my favorites, and unusually uplifting for NL, lol!

message 592: by Marie (new)

Marie Looking forward to our read!

message 593: by Sallie (new)

Sallie | 315 comments Caution...don't read TSAFL if you're hungry!! My edition is 1949 and on pages 6&7 NL describes the setting for the horkey festival. You can actually visualize the scene and your olfactory senses will be working overtime! I love how NL can transport us back in time so effortlessly,so completely and so convincingly....one of her greatest strengths as an author. You can actually feel the bone-weariness of those in the laboring class.

Oh yes. And I take that as a vote for TSAFL . Jackie would you be OK with this?

message 595: by Jackie (new)

Jackie it's ok, whatever you guys want to do.

message 596: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Here's the peanut gallery chiming in. Does To See A Fine Lady have enough depth to it to warrant two discussions? I'd really like to see us discuss a book that we haven't covered yet, like A Rose for Virtue.

message 597: by Jackie (last edited Feb 08, 2019 07:20AM) (new)

Jackie the reason I wanted that one is I own it, so I can join in.

message 598: by Marie (new)

Marie A Rose for Virtue gets my vote!

message 599: by Barbara (last edited Feb 08, 2019 07:20PM) (new)

Barbara Hoyland (sema4dogz) | 2442 comments I have just been counting up and I find ARFV is the lead contender here so I am going to open a new thread for us to start .

It is true we have not ever discussed it (tho I have to take umbrage at the suggestion TSAFL is short on depth Peggy, lol! It may not be plot driven but to me contains some of the very best character development)

Anyway be that as it may- onward to The Rose.!!

message 600: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (peggy908) | 1051 comments Lol, Barbara, what can I say, I guess I prefer plots. But as you say, onward to The Rose of Virtue!
