I wish Jeremy had gotten a book too.
By now, it would be a different one given the changes in HIV treatment and options (thank God), but realistic YA that include HIV are hard to come by (the best one I know of being Just Between Us )
I just finishedAnd It Was Full of Light!: Finding the Courage to Overcome Homophobic Bullying and Hate by Robert W. Littlefield. Riveting!

"Finished grl2grl gave it 4 stars the stories varied most were good but some just weren't my thing. There was an emotional and very realistic from what I know, transgender story in their as well as questioning and ze was used as well as having a genderfluid character. I would recommend it if you can tolerate a bit of repetitiveness (a few too many she broke my hearts) but want to hear many different LGBTQ narratives.
Rez mentioned Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which I thought was terrific. I just finished Ash by Malinda Lo. It was beautiful. Bonus points for the queer romance theme!
"Castor" by Shaun Young. A substantial YA sci-fi with gay central characters, beautifully written and compelling in its world-building.
Ulysses wrote: ""Castor" by Shaun Young. A substantial YA sci-fi with gay central characters, beautifully written and compelling in its world-building."After reading (and loving) The Star Host, I've been looking for another sci-fi.
I love books with love and angst. Judging by the blurb, Castor looks like a good one. Added!
Kaje wrote: "Ooh, adding to my list too. Ulysses' tastes and mine often match."I certainly enjoy his reviews over at the Backlot group. Always thoughtful and thorough.
If you're interested Kaje, maybe we could do a buddy read of Castor? Aside from Klune's new release next week, I don't really have a lot on my plate right now. Anyways, just let me know.
Skye wrote: "Rez mentioned Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which I thought was terrific. I just finished Ash by Malinda Lo. It was beautiful. Tiny Cooper is still my favorite character of all the books I've read this year.

Funny you should mention it, I spotted it in my list when I was perusing and prioritizing the other day, and so I'm sure I'll be reading it soon.

I'm catching up on my awards reading, and I have Matthew Metzger's The Suicidal Peanut lined up. But in September sure, put Castor up for a buddy read. :)
I recently read Her Name in the Sky and I love it! I'm still not over it actually. It was beautiful. The pain, the love, the friendship, and forgiveness. I definitely recommend it!
Suddenly: Shanghaied! - 3 stars, I think? There are a lot of interesting concepts, but the world-building is seriously lacking. And while I liked the characters, I started so suspect that they were reused from the Gives Light series, just given different names and backgrounds. Not sure if I'll read the next one yet. I did read the sample and some things do seem to get answered in the next book, but there were still plotting issues. They're on the KU, so you can borrow for free if you're a KU or Prime member.

September sounds good. I'll put Castor up then.
I really want to read another Metzger title too. I really enjoyed Spy Stuff. Yesterday I was perusing his books and Vivaldi in the Dark caught my eye. Think I'll give it a go next. I'll keep an eye out for your review of The Suicidal Peanut.
Currently I'm reading The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. I've read books 1, 2 and 3. Will start reading book 4 soon.
Just finished The Inside of Out by Jen Marie Thorne. Just starting Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin.
Just finished A Fine Bromance - it has an ace MC, a trans guy and a gay guy... but it tries a little too hard to be useful and informative. Explaining instead of just showing so it gives the reader a lot of facts and understanding about trans and ace, but that slows the story and distances the characters a bit. It's good to see these diverse characters, and it gets a lot of stuff right factually. I think a more ruthless editor could have made it better, with some of the info moved to the back pages, and a little tweak to the drama of the climax.
I've just read Na'amen Gobert Tilahun's
The Root
, an own-voices tale with true-to-life racial diversity and multiple QUILTBAG central and secondary characters. I'd classify it as mature YA or possibly New Adult for its scenes of violence. There are a couple, mostly vague, references to past sexual situations but no sex on the page in this book. It was really good and really interesting, but I would strongly recommend waiting to read it until after the publication of [what I expect will be] the other two books in the series. This one doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but it pauses more than ends at all.
I'm currently reading: The Bane Chronicles. If you're not familiar with Magnus Bane, let's just say he's a very gay warlock obsessed with glitter, and cats.
Avid Reader and Geek Girl wrote: "Reading Beautiful Darkness no LGBT though, same with the last one"
I still haven't finished Beautiful Creatures, this series is captivating me already though.

Just finished reading Pink, by Lili Wilkinson which I didn't realize had an LGBTQ+ theme until I started reading it. I only gave it 2.5 stars but thought I'd put it here anyway in case anyone was interested :). Set in Australia, which is a bit refreshing since not many novels are set here especially in this genre.

I'm just finishing Private
by Matthew J. Metzger - this author just hits the sweet spot for me, in this story of an almost-17-year-old son of an Army guy, who is faced with either coming out to his dad, or accepting another move across the country to his dad's new post. Moving means going back totally into the closet, away from his boyfriend and all the people he has finally come out to. Well done story, with some nuances, and an imaginative chance to see what the father is thinking. So good.
I really enjoyed our BotM - True Letters from a Fictional Life - a well-done coming out story with some emotion that never veered into angst. Now, since Matthew Metzger is so reliably a good read, I'm reading The Italian Word for Kisses

Matthew J. Metzger's "The Suicidal Peanut," which I've just given five stars on Amazon and Goodreads. Loved it. Also a trans asexual author...A different, funny and really touching YA book.
