I figured out Ruby's problem: she's going to see shadows. Everybody's shadow. And their going to act like people and can move separately from their owners and they talk to her and such.

Common-sense wise, he probably has anger issues. Maybe a really really rough home life, and he needed an outlet.
Or maybe the opposite. His life was easy, and he could be a "psychopath" and he simply got bored and created his own problems.

Me: The second certainly sounds more creative. Maybe he started out with animals, and found over time that he really loved feeling powerful, just like his rich mama and daddy?

Me: Not necessarily. Stress can lead to breakdowns, but they aren't the only things. Ted Bundy had a fine home life--his only problem was that he was born out of wedlock and was lied to about his true parents, which was probably what led to his murdering of women.

All the same, the reason behind a child killing could be as simple as "He was born a little broken." Like Annie Wilkes.

Yeah, I think I like the idea of a stoic murderer more then a haunted one. But he'd of course be gentle with Ruby :3

Me: What would they see in each other, do you think? I'm trying to get a better feel for Ruby, I'd like to plan a little more.

Me: Well, Felix could see it as like he has to protect her and her fragile mind, and he is certainly tough enough to do so. And Ruby could maybe see him as like a project to be fixed? Curiosity and such could lead her to want to take the challenge and try and change him?

Me: I was thinking younger. Seven for Ruby and eight for Felix. But they could be older, if you want.

Ruby's not much of a fixer, though. She's more like "What? You kill people? Well why do you do that? That's your shadow's job. Shadows are mean." Almost naive in her childishness, but not so much so as to be incredibly weak.

Me: That could work, though the shadows often show the true colors of their owners. Felix's would probably be very threatening. She might at first be scared of his shadow, and perhaps by extension him.

But you know, maybe that could play a part in it too. Maybe Felix gets protective because of Ruby's distress?
