Laurel I just finished a morning of yard work, and as I was putting everything away, I thought it would be a lovely afternoon to sit with a cold drink and read a book. Out of the blue, the thought came "Gosh, I'd love a new Vorkosigan book!". (Yes, I use the word gosh).

My second thought was, what a great discussion topic!

If you could wish for any book to sit down with on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, what would it be?

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I'm lucky in that, right now, I'm reading exactly what I want, which is Teatro Grottesco by Thomas Ligotti.

I'm in the mood for dark and wierd. And it's hitting the spot like cold water on a hot, hot day.

Tracey (stewartry) I'm pretty happy too: I'm reading Deborah Grabien's Cruel Sister. I'd forgotten I had a Grabien I hadn't read yet, and it's a joy: ghosts and folk music and Tudors, all wrapped up in beautiful writing.

carol. | 2616 comments Just did it, with Magic Slays. The Kate Daniels series is one of my all-time favs--how lucky for me that I had the new book and a free afternoon with no interruptions! Bliss.

Hmm id pick Ghost Story :) Can't stinkin wait!

message 6: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Not a new Hobb book about Fitz and the Fool? ;)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I don't know, I'm so moody with my reading. Lilian Jackson Braun recently passed and now I want to re-read "The Cat Who" series, for example.

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Aww sorry MrsJ My mother in law liked her books too.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay that's hard to argue with, Laurel! I admit new Fitz and Fool would win!

message 10: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) I kind of missed the point on this one, huh ... How very unlike me. :)

If I had my wish, at the moment it would be a shiny new Carol Berg. At least I know one of those will come along before too many moons. If I really had my wish, it would be more Rosemary Edghill novels in the Twelve Treasures series - she only wrote three. Or maybe a Barbara Hambly fantasy (which she has planned but which the publishers haven't picked up) or Diane Duane (ditto).

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Like Grant, wishing for the new Dresden book (or a new Paksenarrion novel...hi Grant :).

By the way, is it fair to wish we could see new books by dead authors?

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't see why not, Mike. It is just a wish after all :)

As for me, I'd wish for the next Gentleman Bastard book or the third day of the Kingkiller Chronicles.

Sharon Michael | 572 comments I just finished one of my "wishes" ... the new book in the Sheriff Walt Longmier series by Craig Johnson. Wonderful read on a 90-degree KY day ... most of it takes place in the Cloud's Peak area of the Big Horn mountains in northern Wyoming!

Next "wish" is for Lois Bujold to pick up with her Chalion series again. The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls are two of my "desert island" books ... The Hallowed Hunt not quite so much. But there are so many more stories just hinted at ... I'd really like to know more about the Learned Dy Cabon and really want to know how Foix is getting along with his demon ... and then there is Liss, as well.

Dang I vote we trade wish books upon completion of reading, yall

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Sharon, I was "major disappointed" in Hallowed Hunt. I would like to see a return of what she did in the the first 2 however.

Good Idea!

I think it depends on my mood what I would wish for...there are so many good stories that should have been told!

a Karsa Orlong series...
about 10 more Dresdens...
some Dashell Hammett with supernatural elements...
a Gnome series!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I wish Zelazny had followed Corwin up in a more complete way (I can pretty much live without the second Amber series, but there you are.) I also wish he'd completed the intended story arc for Changeling and Madwand.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I just never could enjoy the Amber series. It felt so disjointed

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments To each...as they say.

It isn't one of my favorites either, readable, but I could live without it. I've probably re-read it 2 or 3 times since I've owned it ... the first two I'm sure I've re-read a dozen times.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Happily in that series each book can be read as a stand alone.

message 22: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 572 comments That's one of the things I particularly liked about the first two books. Minor characters from the first book had their own story in the second book and the major characters from the first book were just referred to briefly. And there are still characters from those first two books I want to have a book of their own ... especially Foix and his demon!

message 23: by Traci (new)

Traci My wish book would be a new Terry Pratchett Rincewind book. Or another Diane Wynne Jones Howl book as good as the first, I didn't like the sequels as much. Also another Douglas Adams Dirk Gently would be great. Also agree another Fitz/Fool book would be wonderful, and slighty more likely than my other choices.
