This is ridiculous. I turn 18 in a week and I still don't have my driver's license. Soon I'll have to renew my permit for the second time.

Why? Because I can't parallel park. I know all the mechanics of it: pull up next to the car in front of the space, turn the wheel hard right, back up until the car is at a 45 degree angle, turn the wheel hard to the left and straighten out.

But knowing how to do it =/= being able to do it and I can never get within 12 feet of the curb or even close. Fml.

I'm 18 and I don't have my licence either, so you are not alone. I took the test once and I failed and now I'm really reluctant to take it again. The first time I failed I almost broke down afterwards. I know that I'll pass (...eventually) so I'm not stressing too much.

I think I could pass, if I could just park the damn car. Which I can't. So I won't pass.
I spent an hour and a half today practicing with my dad. I still can't do it.

And I live out in a fairly rural place, so there's really no way to live without a license unless you want to depend on other people completely.

I live in the city so I practice in empty parking lots. I have to drive very slowly so whenever I get the chance to drive with a lot gas (which to me is anything over 10 mph, I know, it's sad) I get a bit scared and nervous.

I'm fine with driving fast (to get anywhere here you have to get on the highway) it's just this damn parking x_x that and left-hand turns when I don't have my own green light to turn :P I don't like those, I get all freaked out.

I failed the first time I took my drivers test too, and I did break down. Of course, that was after my dad had picked me up and I was out of sight of the teacher and the other students... I was three, THREE, points away from passing. Anyway... I passed the second time.

Have you tried practicing parallel parking just on your own? Instead of how the book tells you? I don't exactly do it just like they told me to do it, though I can't really explain by typing how I do it... Maybe get your hands on some thing that you can practice with. Something that won't hurt the car.

I actually learned with my aunt- not from like a how-to guide, and while I can fit myself into the space I flat out can't get close enough to the curb, haha

When I took my driving test, I didn't have to parallel park. I figured it was because I lived in a rural area. I'm surprised you have to do it to pass considering you live in a rural area too. I would think that should only be required in the city where parallel parking is more common.

When I took my test, there was only one car parked on side of road, so I didn't have to try to parallel between two cars which was easier to deal with. Also it was winter and there was ice and snow on the curb. He couldn't tell when I was hitting curb cause of the ice :p

Sometimes the outside conditions can work in your favor! don't give up!

I did't get my license until I was 18 either. I didn't have a car, or the need to drive anywhere. All my friends turned 16 before me and they all had cars. I would just chip in money for gas. I also didn't have to parallel park for my test, but there is very little parallel parking in our town. Most of the time you can pull in straight, not have to back into it. Good luck!

I just turned 20 and still don't have a license. But I just get by public transportation.

We unfortunately don't have any reliable public transportation around here, except for the train which I can't walk to anyway- most roads are too dangerous to walk on here. There aren't any buses in town, not that I would be able to get into town without driving anyway, XD
