Debbie | 62 comments Glad to hear it. So.....any of those books that came in some I'm waiting on?;)

message 52: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 54 comments When I'm in a rut I try to pick up nonfiction that I can just flip through, like cookbooks or craft books. Or magazines. I don't tend to give that kind of book much attention when I'm seriously engrossed in a novel.

message 53: by Alison (new)

Alison (alilouhoo) I just read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Very good writing. Mythical creatures, war, epic love, heroine with blue hair... It's part of a series, so more to come.

message 54: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 54 comments I checked out Daughter of Smoke and Bone yesterday! Haven't started it yet, but I think it's my next read.

message 55: by Christie (new)

Christie (cereale) I am in the midst of reading The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer which is a fun read if you likedPride and Prejudice and Zombies, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Its not quite on par with those but still a fun, light read that mixes paranormal and historical fiction.

I can't wait to try Daughter of Smoke and Bone! It looks so good. I just finished Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand . It was really good. The main character, Clara has recently learned that she is part angel and such a title requires great responsibility. She discovers that all angels are given a purpose, a reason why she was put on this earth. She has a little trouble discovering what that purpose is and how she is supposed to accomplish such a mission while still trying to be a normal teenager. Her purpose requires her to move to a new town and find, quite literally, the boy of her dreams. Of course, he has his own baggage, mainly his girlfriend, the queen of mean. Clara discovers that being an angel is not as easy as she thought.

Debbie | 62 comments I'm starting two new series. One is Jaye Wells' Red-Headed Stepchild. Waiting on book two. The other is Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson Guardian Series (waiting on 3rd book in that series). Both series are good so far.

So I'm halfway through the book Seduce Me in Flames by Jacquelyn Frank but I can't seem to get into this author...has anyone else read her? Should I try one of her other books or just move on to something else?

Just got my hands on the latest Tamora Pierce novel, Mastiff! This is book three in the Bekka Cooper series and I loved the last two so I'm pretty stoked about this book!

Has anyone seen the preview for One for the money? I wasn't excited about the movie until I saw the preview. I love who they have playing Morelli!

So I just finished The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns #1) by Rae Carson -I saw that Tamora Pierce recommened it so I had to give it a try. I loved the personal growth that the main character experienced. She went from an overweight, timid princess to a woman who can command an army-which was pretty awesome! I also liked the mix of fantasy and religion. It was definitely a different experience. The one thing that I did not like about this book was the ending...it ended how it should have ended..but not how I wanted it to

Christie wrote: "I am in the midst of reading The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer which is a fun read if you likedPride and Prejudice and Zombies, [book:Sense and Sen..."

Did you see that they were making Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer into a movie? Adam Tudyk (from Firefly) is going to be in it! So is Dominic Cooper and Rufus Sewell...I was mocking this movie until I saw the cast. And now I find myself compelled to watch it...but maybe I will wait until it comes out on DVD

message 67: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 9 comments I just finished Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake - if you like the t.v. series Supernatural, you will be a fan!

message 68: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
I was just looking at Anna and I put it back-glad you recommened it then! Wait, does it have an ending that I would like? lol

message 69: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 9 comments it has an ending that makes it ready for the next book - that comes out some time next year. the ending wrapped a little too neatly, but it was still really good.

message 70: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
Then I will definitely give it a read

Just finished the book Shifting by Bethany Wiggins-it was pretty good. Maggie Mae is 17 and in the foster care system and after being bounced around she ends up in at an older lady's home in New Mexico. She just wants to stay out of trouble (she was picked up several times for public nudity) and finish her last year of high school. Things of course go awry and you discover that Maggie Mae is not your typical teenage girl

Just finished the book A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan . It is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. The main character, Rose awakens 60 years after being put into a stasses chamber by a kiss (kind of). The world is a completely different place and those she once loved are no longer around. She has to learn how to adjust to her new life and realize that the life that she left behind was not as perfect as she had believed.

message 73: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 54 comments Loved A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan ! It was neat to have a fairy tale retelling that is more scifi than fantasy. Otto was my favorite character.

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
There were so many twists in the stories which makes me hope that the author will make it into a series so I can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

message 75: by Alison (new)

Alison (alilouhoo) Just read Angelfall by Susan Ee. It's only available as an ebook, but it's also only $0.99 on Amazon. Worth the dollar. Post apocalyptic world where angels are the bad guys. Pretty disturbing in some parts, but still considered YA. It's part of a series.

message 76: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
what site did you get that from? couldn't find it on B&N

message 77: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 54 comments Sometimes a book will be on sale only for Kindles (or for Nooks), but in this case, it does seem to be .99 on B&N.

Trance (MetaWars, #1) by Kelly Meding was a good book. It started off in the middle of a war scene and you are introduced to these super hero kids who are being hunted by these supervillians and something out of the ordinary happens to them. Then it jumps to ten years later and you find out that all these superhumans lost their powers and had to figure out how to live normal lives, seperated from both their powers and their friends. They had to grow up in the foster system as freaks who were blamed for the loss of lives of so many people due to the war between the metahumans. You meet back up with Trance, the main character and find that life hasn't been easy for her. She's lived a hard life and its only going to get harder now that her powers are back. The war is beginning all over again and Trance and her fellow heroes are forced to help save the world, whether they like it or not.

Debbie, how do you like the Hannah Jayne series? I'm about to start it

message 88: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 62 comments I really liked the Hannah Jayne series. The only thing about it I didn't like is that they leave unanswered questions at the end of each book. I guess so you'll keep reading the next book and the next...(lol). Now I'm waiting on the next one that comes out in May. I'm trying to think of who to compare her writing to.
Maybe Michelle Rowen or Chloe Neill? I don't know. I read too many authors to tell anymore. (lol)

So I am rereading Nalini Singh's Kiss of Snow and it makes me wonder about people who say they never reread anything. What is wrong with those people? It's like revisiting old friend. Sometimes I find myself hurrying through books because they are so good and when I reread them I find things or experience a situation differently than when I originally read the book.

message 90: by Alison (new)

Alison (alilouhoo) I feel the same way! It's never a waste of time to reread. You either find something new you missed the first time, or you've changed and you have a new perspective on what happens.

Normal people beware! Paranormal freaks are winning the war! Ok, now that I have your attention. I just had someone hand me back some paranormal books that I had loaned out so he could see what the fuss was all about and he told me that he wanted better written books. Now the books that he had were Moon called by Patricia Briggs and book 2,3,4 of Laurell K Hamiltons Anita Blake series. I was struck mute! Now, when he said better written them there were fighten words! He then explained that get over the words werewolf or zombie but he wants something better written and a paranormal. I told him if he doesnt like vampires, werewolves or zombies then he may want to look at a different genre. It's sad when people can't see past the furriness and see the person underneath. It's racist! Vampires were people too! haha

message 92: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 62 comments That's funny. I say give him a coloring book and crayons and send him home to momma.

message 93: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
Haha!
It does amaze me how many people feel that way about paranormal books. They feel that they can scoff at a book just because it contains a creature that may grow fangs or get a little furry on occassion. They don't think about all of the issues these books can deal with: such as hate, love, prejudice beliefs, family, loss, which hot guy to chose and so much more. I mean, some of these books can make me laugh hysterically one minute and have me sobbing the in the very next paragraph.
Also, people need to be wary of mocking us paranormal lovers. Most paranormals books are part of a series which means we are well invested in each of our characters. So when someone mocks these books, they are mocking our friends :)

I've read several of Shelly Laurenston's books lately and I have to say that she is hilarious! Her characters make you laugh out loud as her characters do wild and crazy things. They are a little racey but her characters are psychotically awesome!

Just finished Beauty Dates the Beast (Midnight Liasons, #1) by Jessica Sims Bath has put her life on hold after her sister was turned into a werewolf. She became her protector, hiding her from other shifters who may hurt her. This has caused her to have no social life. That all changes when she meets a sexy were-cougar who wants to show Bath that there is more to life than taking care of her sister. I really enjoyed this book, it had a lot of humorous moments in it.

message 96: by Erik (new)

Erik | 97 comments Finally finished River Marked. Can't believe I got it 80 percent finished back in July, but for some reason never picked it back up. Blew through it in one sitting last night, finishing at 4 a.m.

I just finished Fair Game by Patricia Briggs, the latest in the Omega series. This was the best in one so far. I didn't really care about the charactes in the previous books but this one really held my interest and that could be because they were dealing with serial killers.

message 98: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 62 comments I'm about to start Kerrelyn Sparks' Sexiest Vampire Alive then on to Linda Robertson's Wicked Circle. I've got holds on the new books by Kim Harrison, Gini Koch, J.R. Ward, Charlaine Harris, Keri Arthur, and Lynsay Sands just to name a few. Yahoo! I'm in hog heaven!

I just finished Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi - it was interesting. It starts off with the main character being in a asylum and you don't know if she is crazy or not. She was deemed unfit to be a part of society because she has the ability to kill people with her touch which makes it difficult to have a "normal" relationship. This is a dysotopian ya book so of course the world outside the asylum is rather bleak. I rather enjoyed this story.

Peaches (princesspeaches) | 94 comments Trader Joes is awesome. We love their coffee.

What am I reading? Nothing. I'm in book withdrawal!
