This was a children's book I read as a child in the 80s. I remember very little about it. I *think* it was about a sloth who sat around eating leaves all day until he met a girl sloth who went to school and so he wanted to go too. The girl sloth had a little pink bow in her hair. He had issues going to school because he was too slow in getting there and back. I also seem to remember he had green slime on his fur that he had trouble getting off. That's about all I remember, but I must figure this out. It's driving me INSANE!!!

Is this it?Sherman is a slowpoke
From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1 Sherman, a giant sloth, is quite content with his life of eating and sleeping until he meets Sheila, a sloth who goes to school and thinks. The transition is not an easy one, but with Sheila's help, Sherman does go to school, where he discovers that he has been thinking all along. Reminiscent of Leo the Late Bloomer (Crowell, 1971) by Robert Kraus, this book has a clear message everyone moves at an individual pace but the message does not overwhelm the characters or the mood of the story. Bright, flat watercolor illustrations that are outlined in black show rhinos, bears, elephants, and others to enhance the tongue-in-cheek humor of the text. A reassuring tale with broad appeal among children and their parents. Starr LaTronica, North Berkeley Library, Calif.
