I agree with Amy about the cell...a good hunting dog (to catch food)...and shampoo...LOL...

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments 3 things..... Here's my list:
1. A werewolf
2. A Barista ( got to have my coffee)
3. My eye cream (gotta look good for my werewolf)

You see a werewolf is the most prudent choice here people. He's so big I could use him for shade. He can catch any food I want. He would be warm at night and he would be strong for fighting off any natives that found their way to my island!!

From what my google skills tell me the term for sharp cheese, mild, medium sharp, sharp and extra sharp, and apparently there are more, refers to the flavor of cheddar cheese. The sharper the cheddar, the more tangy it will taste.

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments You learn something new everyday!! :)
My definition of sharp cheddar? Good.
Thanks for the info!!! You rock

C.L. You're welcome. Have you ever noticed this is what we writers do? We're all trivia junkies, or maybe it's just me. If I don't know something, and someone asks the question I must know as well. Probably because I may need it in a plot sometime. I'm not sure if it's a talent or a sickness.

message 107: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Go with talent!!! A curious writer is a better writer! For sure!!

message 108: by C.L. (new)

C.L. Sounds good to me, now if I can just convince my family...oh wait, I left them on the island.

message 109: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Well so long as you left them with a plentiful supply of cheese... Actually on the subject, a wetsuit is probably not a bad thing to have either as a) you don't sunburn through them and b)you can set a trend.

True about writers and trivia though. You never know what is going to stick in your head and prove to be the MacGuffin on which the story hinges...

JAC

message 110: by TC (new)

TC | 55 comments Mmm, but have you ever worn a wetsuit in the sun when you're not in the water? Instead of sunburn you'll get heatstroke.

I'd never heard cheddar referred to as sharp before, you learn something new every day.

message 111: by Cambria (last edited Jun 21, 2011 08:28AM) (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments i didn't know the impact one little comment about liking sharp cheddar could have. Am i the only one who looks at cheese packages around here??? LOL.
What kind of cheese do the rest of you like?
LOL.
And you have a point there TC about the heatstroke and the wetsuits. I told my husband about our topic of what we would bring to the island and he said if it's deserted why bring any clothes at all.....
Well alrighty then. :)

message 112: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Cambria does your bloke not ever get sunburn?! I would frazzle in a second if I wasn't totally covered - me for a burkha if they do them in light cheesecloth.....

PS TC - "sharp" cheese is the American term for mature cheddar I think. You don't get it over here, but I saw it when I was on hols.

message 113: by TC (new)

TC | 55 comments If I wasn't taking any clothes I'd need industrial quantities of sun lotion! Think I'd still want some clothes in case a rescue party appeared on the horizon.

JAC, that might be why it didn't ring bells.

message 114: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
The word "mature" and food kinda make me squirm just a bit. I don't think those words should go together AT ALL!! LOL

I'm kinda diggin the no clothes thing, on an island, we will have plenty of palm trees, we can make ourselves some nice shade. The grass skirt look would be quite sexy with my tanned skin when the rescuers arrive!! :)
Just need a few coconuts too....

message 115: by Cassie (new)

Cassie McCown (cassie629) | 713 comments I like sharp cheddar as well, Cambria! I also like the idea of a werewolf...but a tame one that can shift at will, like Jacob...

I would need some rather large coconuts, I'm afraid. With lots of support...LOL...

message 116: by Cassie (new)

Cassie McCown (cassie629) | 713 comments By the way...in case anyone with this knowledge happens to wander through here...

I have been fighting all evening with iTunes. I am trying to transfer my library from my old laptop to my new laptop with home sharing. Well, I had no problem whatsoever transferring my library from my new laptop to the old laptop...but I could NOT get the old library to show up on the new laptop!! It was working and said it was opening the library, but then it would just suddenly go back to the main music library. AGH! I did everything I could think to do, looked it all up online...finally just had to step away and stop before I had a stroke.

If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to share! ;-)

ugh...I hate trying to figure out iTunes, that stuff is a nightmare!! When I bought my new laptop, it would never recognize ANYTHING I had and I had to wipe it and start over. I almost cried....maybe you will get lucky and we will find we have an iTunes genius in the group!!

werewolves don't get sunburned. they are so hot already that the sun just lets them alone.
LOL

I prefer the term 'sharp' over mature when talking about cheese. Well...anything really. when i am old i will not be mature. I will be sharp.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) I thought I was the only one who couldn't figure out ITunes. That damn program scares me. Every time I plug in in an IPod it tries to wipe the thing clean of all of my audiobooks.

TC | 55 comments I have a faux grass skirt, don't think it was itchy but it certainly left horrible lines on the back on my legs the one time I wore it!

I hate iTunes, seem to lurch from one disaster to another with it. I used to have a classic iPod which I loved but it died and hubby replaced it with a shuffle which I don't understand

Edit - haha, just gone to check how to do something on it and I didn't even get the right one, it's a nano.

message 125: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments ooooh! ooh! I know this one as my partner's computer died horrendously and ate all his music and you can only import the stuff you purchased from itunes and not anything you loaded from CD, so I did that but couldn't sync his iPhone as it would wipe the stuff that WAS on the iPhone but not on the iTunes account.

Ridiculous, I thought, and went off to iLounge to find out how to get the old stuff of the iPhone.

Turns out, you can't mastercopy the device over the iTunes library (though you can do export / import probably, but we couldn't as the old comp had died properly - SOO tempted to say that made it a computer terminal but resisting the urge).

Anyhow, quick version is: if your old computer is working, try searching "export" or something; but I got a frankly FAB bit of software that lifted the whole thing across in about 2mins flat, with about 3 clicks in total so even though you can do it the long way, I'd be tempted to use the programme.

Downside of the prog is that if you want to shift more than 100 songs you have to get the paid version but $20 will do you for a year on an unlimited amount of computers so I figured it was a decent spend.

This is where I found the answer to mine:

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/arti...

so worth checking for tips there first but if not the software we got was called Copy Trans Suite and it's one of the ones referenced on page 4 I think?

Anyhow iLounge seem to be fairly kosher so though the software site looks badly translated I took a chance on it and so far they don't seem to have cleaned out my bank account or anything (possibly because I got there first).

Anyhow, check iLounge. But CopyTrans is unexpectedly super.Damn, if only I could persuade them to give me commission!!!
heheheh

Wow! Thanks!! It isn't essential that I transfer it all over...but there is something wrong with the...uh...place where you plug the cord into the laptop, so it is hard to keep it charged up. It is just easier to use the new laptop for all my work. I moved all my pictures and documents to my external drive and uploaded my photo editing software to the new laptop, so I don't have to use the old one for photos. I also have been putting "new" music on my new laptop, so I just wanted it all together. Only a tiny amount of my music library is actually purchased through iTunes. Of course they are going to make it difficult for you to back it all up... I lost the whole library once before & had to go back and reload thousands of songs!! Do NOT want to do that again!!!

I probably need to see about getting that laptop fixed...lol...

heheheheh

Cassie you should def go get CopyTrans in that case - it sets itself up and just brings up a box asking if you want to transfer everything or just ticked ones.
I kid you not, it's about 2mins start to finish and that's with mildly rural download times. Loving that!

message 133: by TC (new)

TC | 55 comments Ah now cell phones I can cope with, it's just Apple devices that give me a major headache. I was pleased to notice that when I applied an update to my Nano the other day they had changed the way you turn it on and off (that was the big problem I was having, and how embarassed I was to not figure out something that fundamental until Apple admitted it was rubbish and changed it)

So JAC, are you admitting to being a geek?

message 136: by C.L. (last edited Jun 24, 2011 07:50PM) (new)

C.L. Well according to dictionary.com

geek
noun Slang
1. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

nerd
noun Slang
1. a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
2. an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

Looks like that popular/unpopular thing could go either way. I was considered a nerd before the popularity of computers (yes I am that old), but that was because I was an obsessive reader when I was younger. Now it's worse. I'm an obsessive reader and writer.

Historically, it's a term still used by circuses or sideshows for performers who did unusual acts. Hence the guy whose act was biting off the head of a live chicken would have been called a "geek".

message 139: by Cassie (new)

Cassie McCown (cassie629) | 713 comments I got it...but it is gross...LOL... That is not the kind of geek I would want to be associated with! ;-)

I think I'm more of a nerd than a geek anyway. Although I don't really agree with the nonsocial hobby bit... Hmmm... ;-)

TC | 55 comments My mum was referring to my husband earlier and said he was a kleptomanaic, and when I said I didn't think he'd appreciate being called a thief she was very confused. She thought that was someone who collects things, had to read her the dictionary definition before she'd believe me that it was more to do with coveting and stealing things. I love the way word usage can change over time.
