Haha. So true."

Yeah, maybe it could be recommended by someone else's Mom ; )

message 352: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments But I love the idea of doing that in May, Peggy : )

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments I like the idea of the read a book your mom recommends. Good idea :)

Step-mom, grandmom, godmom ... somebody's got to read.

message 355: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) How about any female relative? We could also do a book your father recommends(or some other male relative) for June.

message 356: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Same problems. However leave it with us and we may be able to knock a challenge together. At least put our thinking caps on.

message 357: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments What could work for me is a book my mom recommended or a book I Wished she'd recommended or a book I think she would like. She gave up the ghost in 2003 so it's tough to get actual book recs at present.

message 358: by Elsbeth (last edited Mar 10, 2015 01:38AM) (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments Or a book recommended by your mom, aunt or other (older) woman in your surrounding who's opinions are important to you? Maybe even explain what she means to you, when not obvious?

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Oh, I feel an evil laugh bubbling up from my core. You know they call us the meanies for a reason, right?

In my case, I'm the one finding books for my father. I've introduced him to authors he never would have thought of, and now he loves them.

I have a perfect visual of that! LOL

You never know. One book is worth finding out if it is really God awful. It's a challenge after all and you get a badge. ☺

Maybe the Mom resoruce can be all of the YLTO readers that have children as a resource and we can choose a book from their READ list.

message 364: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Or a book our moms should/should have read to understand us better :)

message 365: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments With the summer holidays coming up for many people here, I thought about a team-toppler where groups travel around the world, and can earn points per country, maybe with more points for more difficult places, or fewer points when a country is visited for the second/third time.

message 366: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Love the idea, Peggy.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments That's a good idea Peggy. You'll probably see it somewhere in the group.

message 373: by Peggy (last edited May 27, 2015 07:14AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Another (toppler) idea: a sort of chronological challenge, in which teams have to read books published in as many different years as possible, with perhaps more points for older books, or extra points for every full decade that is completed.

message 374: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I love reading public domain books, so I'd definitely participate in a challenge like that.

That's another great idea Peggy!

message 376: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Sounds interesting, Peggy. You are on fire! :)

message 377: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I was thinking about the flag canvas that Peggy mentioned the other day. Also we're focusing on book covers this month. So, I thought a nice idea for a challenge would be to choose a flag, either our home country, our current residing country or a country we've visited on holiday/lived in and read a book which has the same colours as that of the flag. We could also make sure it has stars, sickles, and anything else that might appear on the flag on the book which would make it a little more difficult but it would be a great gophering challenge. Extra points if the book is also set in that flag's country etc.

message 378: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That sounds like lots of fun, Sarah! Nice one.

message 379: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments What about reading a book written by an author who shares his/her fist name with you?

message 384: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I like that one. :)

message 385: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Sandra wrote: "What about reading a book written by an author who shares his/her fist name with you?"

When we first started doing long challenges, we did a six month challenge "all about you". There was a similar item in that challenge. It doesn't mean we can't do it again. I rather like that suggestion myself.

message 386: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments I like it too, getting to know you stuff is fun.

message 387: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I missed it, Janice, but sounds fun.

message 388: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I like it too :) I wonder if I have any on my tbr.

I was thinking of rereading a book from your childhood. Another idea is reading a book by a famous author with a lot of published books, but of whom you've read none.

I really like these suggestions.

message 390: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Many great musicians have died recently. I wondered about a challenge surrounding this. Can't think of what right now. That's as far as I got. I guess it would be a tribute. But then there have also been some big authors die in the last 18 months too (Terry Pratchett, Iain M Banks for starts). Perhaps combine the two. Read a book by/about an author/musician who has passed on?!

message 391: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Love the idea Sarah! Or for music, a book somehow related to a song/album of one of those musicians, by title or topic? (David Bowie --> The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars --> The Martian)

Sarah | 18550 comments Or taking our discussion in the watcha doing thread, read a book by someone you'd like to save and put in an ark/place away from cancer/I'll health.

message 395: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I need a autobiography/biography/memoir challenge. I have soooo many books that linger unread because I am reading challenge or group read books. Historical figures, authors, movie stars, musicians - I buy them, but they linger there unread. I even have a biography of Rin Tin Tin!

Would love this!!

message 398: by Brianna (new)

Brianna Andreda | 19 comments @Cherie that would be great. It could be Behind the Scenes or Unmasking the Stars. And depending on the month you could read a biography/autobiography/memoir for a person that was born/died in that month. Or his/her name could start with one of the letters that spell that month. Or what the person did in life could be used for one of the letters that spell that month.

I'm slow catching up. Is your Rin Tin Tin book the one by Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend by Susan Orlean? I've meant to read it but keep getting sidetracked.

Maybe I'll use this for a 24 hour Toppler. Do you think it would fit, or is that too short of a time?

Yes, that is the book. I would say that I would read it with you, but I am not sure I can get through 336 pages in 24hrs. The book I picked is shorter and Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures fits my Geo challenge for the China C take home task. I am currently listening to We Bought a Zoo, which I think is going to fit the endangered animals task for the same site.

I loved Rin Tin Tin when I was a little girl. We used to watch the TV show on Saturday mornings. I can still hear Rusty yell "Yo Rinty"...
