I am Amrina. I was suggested this group and the description said men centered group but anyone can join. I hope I am not in the wrong place.
Hello Amrina!
You are more than welcome here!!! While I did create this mainly for guys, I never intended (or wanted) it to be exclusively men. Anyone who wants to be part of the community can join!

WELCOME!

My name is Wyatt and I am currently a student at Michigan State. I am just looking to get a feel for what others are currently reading and thought this would be a great way to do just that. I am currently catching up on some 'timeless classics' and recently read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well as The Hobbit.

I am a big historical fiction fan, as long as it comes with with some mayhem. Erik Larsen books are favorites. But also the, I will use the Travis McGee term, "salvager" genre, like Jack Reacher, Matthew Scudder, Gabriel Allon, as they add a lot of details of the surroundings and scene, as well as action.
Anyway, just throwing some thoughts out there for folks. And like many of you all, over 40, two kids and dog, just living the dream.
Welcome, enjoy, and happy new year.

My names Martin, my favourite genres have to be horror and fantasy. I'd say I was late when it comes to enjoying books as much as they should be, but now I would say I'm addicted to reading and collecting books. I'd say I'm better at collecting because life gets in the way of reading meaning my TBR pile is more of a mountain. The wife thinks I have a hoarding problem.
It's great to meet you all and I'm looking forward to discussing books with you guys.

I have an eclectic taste. I simply like a good story that is well written. Currently I've hit a hot streak with good books. The Circle was top three for 2014 which I finished in Dec. I'm currently on The High Window which is great so far with an awesome male protagonist.

I'm a book reviewer, and my blog is SKJAM! Reviews at http://www.skjam.com so stop on by. (My book reviews are also on Goodreads but I talk about other media as well.)
I have been an avid reader since I learned to read, and my tastes do tend to run to male-oriented literature--pulp, action, etc. I do not mind that women have had more success writing in these fields over the last few decades; they've written some excellent books that I enjoyed reading.
The most "manly" book I reviewed recently was actually a manga, "Vinland Saga", which has a bunch of Vikings slaughtering each other when not invading other countries.
Then the main character becomes a pacifist and even *more* manly.

I just read The Martian by Andy Weir. Pretty good read.
Although I'm from California (San Francisco area), I've lived in Texas for getting on 20 years now.
Looking forward to drinking some beers and talking books with you all!

I've been to Sterling (on the way back from a whiskey tour through the highlands...epic!). A nice town. I imagine it's a bit dark there nowadays. Let me know what you think of The Martian. If it's any good, I might add it to my to-read list.

I am 54, married, with four grown children and one seven-year-old.
I have been a reader for . . . awhile now. I am also the author of one novel, The Christmas Mutiny, and various short stories, all posted online for download or print-on-demand.
My primary interests are history, alternate history, science fiction and graphic novels.

Call me Stu. Blessed to live in Del Mar, CA, across the street from the beach. I read and write about romance and different types of love until I finally edit my thriller. Look forward to tossing around different topics.

I accept the invitation to call you Stu. I hope we all have a good time here.

In NY now but lived in the Bethesda/DC area for quite some time. Other passions include golf, tennis, tech, gadgets and good food.

I hesitate to mention I am an author, for fear of being accused as a spam artist.
I have written two novels, with a male protagonist in each. For lack of better definition, they are Romance, from a decidedly Male POV. As you might imagine, presenting Male POV at the girl's club of Romance is one tough sell.
Lee DeBourg
At any rate, glad to join this group, and feel free to give my GR page a peek.

Yeah that seems tough! Good luck to you!

Perhaps I should elevate my goal to 50 books--I'm already reading #12 of my 36 book goal.
I do think that my reading pace will slow down when winter ends though...

Welcome!
No worries, Liz. The Men's Book Club is open to everyone. It sounds like you are here for the same reasons as the rest of us--typical book clubs tend to be slanted toward female readers and the book selections often aren't as appealing to males. I've found quite a few good books here over the past couple of months.
