Regine Yes, it's happening!

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news...

Any thoughts?

This is personally my favourite Stephen King book, next to The Eyes of the Dragon, so I'm very apprehensive about the adaptation.

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments I always worry about movies/tv series based on books I love. They usually butcher it. Dreamcatcher is a big example. I loved the book then saw it in the theater and wanted to scream. Ruined the book!

Shannon | 2 comments They are making the book Bag of Bones into a tv mini series?!?!? I hope they don't butcher it!
Dreamcatcher was a movie? I read the book a few months ago, I can not imagine them making that into a moviie!

Michelle Stockard Miller (michelleamiller) | 12 comments Thanks for posting this! I have been hearing about them making it into a movie for the longest. Bag of Bones is also my favorite Stephen King book so I agree. They better not screw it up! I think I'll try to reread it before the mini-series airs.

Dreamcatcher was such a great book and the movie bit the big one!

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Hmm yes I think i'm apprehensive about the miniseries too.

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Thanks for the link --- I have to say, that's going to be one difficult book to film, with the right "feeling" --- Add my apprehensions.

Gatorman | 561 comments For some reason I am less apprehensive about this adaptation than I have been about others (like The Dark Tower films). Maybe it's because it would seem easier to adapt a less dark novel as this one and be able to get the characters and relationships right. Let's hope.

I disagree. Bag of Bones is dark, but in a different way. There's so much reaw emotion to this book, and there are lots of heavy subjects-- loss of spouse, loss of child, racism, rape, murder, what have you-- this could very easily turn into General Hospital if not done right.

Regine Yup, Dream Catcher definitely did bit the big one too! And I hated The Shining miniseries on ABC. How does Desperation compare? I missed out on that one.

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Desperation kinda blew in my mind. Not on the actor's part but on the story. I don't remember the book being as heavy-handedly religious as the series was and I liked to book well enough to remember it in pretty clear detail.

Veronica (veraj121) | 300 comments My daughter was just talk about this miniseries. She is dying to see it. I never read Bag of Bones. I think that will be my next read.

Dustin Hi, Veronica!

You should definitely read Bag of Bones, preferably before the mini-series airs, IMO.

I am looking forward to seeing it, I'm just not thrilled by the prospect of Pierce Brosnan portraying Mike Noonan...

Gatorman | 561 comments I think Brosnan is good casting. Could have been much worse...

Rachel | 701 comments This miniseries starts December 11th? I'll have to remember to DVR it. That's my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend. The preview looks really good though, although if I hadn't read the book, I don't know if I'd know what it was about.

Trish (zianeu) I like Brosnan, I think he can do it. I also think this is a pretty cinematic story, so it should miniseries up nicely. I hope I don't forget. Better mark it on my calendar or DVR.

Dustin Gatorman wrote: "I think Brosnan is good casting. Could have been much worse..."

True, it could have been much worse. We could have no mini-series, whatsoever..

Gatorman | 561 comments Or they could have chosen some popular but mediocre TV actor just to get people to watch.

israelv | 12 comments I'm excited for this mini-series since Bag of Bones is one of my favorite Stephen King novels.

I think Pierce Brosnan is perfect as Noonan.

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I am so excited... especially since the last thing King had to do for TV was "Kingdom Hospital" - one of my all time favorite shows!

message 24: by Dustin (new) - added it

Dustin I am hoping it'll be a respectful rendition, Bondama!

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Respectful, hell... I just hope it's scary and true to the book!!

message 26: by Dustin (new) - added it

Dustin At least do the book some justice!

Looks like there are two prequel shows: http://www.stephenking.com/promo/dark...

Steve | 247 comments I cant see Brosnan in this. He is frankly too old.

Courtney | 293 comments I initially thought Brosnan was too old too (I guess I still sort of do), but the trailer looks awesome, and Gatorman has a point - they could have done much, much worse :)

Trinity Linn (trinitylinn) I'm always apprehensive when one of my favorite books (or favorite authors books, in this case) is made into a movie. I threw a fit in the movie theatre when I went to see The Mist. In the story, the lady's track suit was canary yellow....I had the whole theatre looking at me. I'm just afraid they'll skip things that don't seem important but truly are. It always seems that when they make a book into a movie, they take a "read between the lines takes some thought book" and make it into something that only sells tickets. I understand that's the point of movies, but do we have to take so much away from the original to do so? It's horrible for us true fans. I myself am absolutely terrified of The Dark Tower movies....there are so many variables that MUST be right in order for it to stay true to the book, the characters, the story. When you're a fan, you feel like you know the characters, their hopes, dreams, fears, etc. and there are so many important things in DT....I just don't know if I could take it in film form....sometimes it's just better to stick to the written word

Jason (darkfiction) | 18 comments Bag of Bones is one of my favorites by King, too. I really want to watch this mini-series, have planned on PVRing it, even. But I'm not sure that I will like it. Who know? Maybe it will be good.

Scott | 401 comments I just set my DVR to record both episodes last night.

David jones | 166 comments I am so gonna watch this...it looks good

Jason (darkfiction) | 18 comments I'll have to wait until BoB shows up on my PVR. It goes week by week only.

Rachel | 701 comments me too. I hope this topic stays so prevalent that I see it so it reminds me.

Jason (darkfiction) | 18 comments LOL

I hope that I don't forget, too.

Amanda wrote in another thread:
Some of you may already be aware of the upcoming Bag of Bones miniseries on A&E. A&E's website is showing advanced videos of the series, but only if you can solve a string of puzzles. I haven't tried it myself but it sounds intriguing. Here's a story about it from Wired:

Dustin I woke up this morning, thinking of the mini-series. I think I'll set the DVR. I'm interested in seeing what they did with it.

How do you end italics?

Jason (darkfiction) | 18 comments < / i > without the spaces, add it at the part of sentence or paragrapg where you want the italics to end.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok thanks

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments Watching right now. So far, it's ok.

KansasOVGirly (mwkindlegrl) I'm liking it quite a bit, but its been forever since I read the book so can't really remember much of it to compare.

Erica (bookpsycho) | 109 comments I think it picked up quite a bit toward the end. Looking foward to the second half tomorrow.

Rachel | 701 comments I think tonight was the slow burn night. But the story is like that. Didn't know this was directed and produced by Mick Garris. IMO, he's like Frank Darabont for TV King adaptations. He's usually very faithful to the source.
