Nearing the end of The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie. Liked it better than Best Served Cold, but still not as great as The First Law trilogy.I'm also on the tail end of Deadhouse Gates by Erikson.
I feel like I've been reading both books forever.
About half way through with Memories of Ice. So far, I am really enjoying the Malazan series, lots of action and good sourcery, and the slew of characters are great. Think I will continue on that path and read House of Chains next. Then it will be time to get ready for Dance with Dragons, have to read A Feast for Crows before DwDs is released.
Currently working my way through The Way of Shadows and Grave Peril. I will probably continue on reading the rest of both series while finishing my reread of A Clash of Kings If I get through that I will probably jump into House of Chains.
I finished Deceived (Star Wars: The Old Republic, #2) and decided it was time to go back into the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series for a while, so I've just begun The High Place by James Branch Cabell. I'd say they don't write them like this any more, but I don't think anyone but Cabell ever wrote them like this in the first place.
I'm working my way through the Liveships trilogy with Mad Ship and hoping to finish it and the third book by the end of the month. Also tackling The Help for my book club as well as MATLAB Demystified for school.
I started reading Game of Thrones yesterday and I love it! Almost half way through (have been reading non stop, way into the night!) and I cannot put it down. It's so enthralling, with characters that are grey, not black or white! Have decided to watch the series adaptation after finishing the book and I am also going to buy a clash of kings tomorrow :)
A lot of people here are reading some good fantasy... Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, Joe Abercrombie and especially George R.R. Martin! I myself have just finished reading Paul Kearney's Monarchies of God series, and now have begun my reread of A Song of Ice and Fire before the release of A Dance with Dragons. :)
I'm currently reading Daughter of the Empire which is awesome! Next is In the Garden of Iden, then back to the Chanur Saga. Wending my way through the Alliance/Union universe.
Currently reading The White RoseOnce that is done, I'll either continue with more of The Black Company or read either First Law or Mistborn series while I wait for A Dance with Dragons.

I haven't read The Black Company but I can tell you that The First Law and Mistborn are both fantastic... but still not as good as A Song of Ice and Fire. :)
Finished The Heroes last night. It was good. Abercrombie sure knows how to write his characters. Now moving on to The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi.
Finished 2666 and that has to be the most pointless book I've ever read. I finished it out of sheer stubbornness and felt cheated when the main mystery of the book didn't get resolved. What amazes me is how highly regarded this book is by most people. Oh well, to each his/her own.Next up I'm going back to Paul Kearney with Century of the Soldier.
Trevor wrote: "Finished 2666 and that has to be the most pointless book I've ever read. I finished it out of sheer stubbornness and felt cheated when the main mystery of the book didn't get resolv..."Century of the Soldier was pretty damn good... for three books:)
I'm reading A Land of Ash while also finishing up Opening Atlantis, which was last month's read for the sci fi & fantasy group. What I should be reading is The Wise Man's Fear which has been waiting for me on top of my TBR pile for a while now.
I've just finished reading Twilight's Dawn by Anne Bishop. It only took me a couple of days to read but I absolutely loved it. Not sure what I'm going to read next.
currently reading the chronicle of narnia..now at the horse and his men..any suggestion of next book for me to read?
Alipz wrote: "currently reading the chronicle of narnia..now at the horse and his men..any suggestion of next book for me to read?"Try reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, an amazing series so far but if you want to read something even more mature, read A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
Alipz wrote: "thanks nick...i'll try to find the books.."Shouldn't be hard. They're all over the place right now, what with Rothfuss being such a seller and the HBO TV series for the Martin.
Just finished reading Strange Angels, which I really enjoyed, and now I'm reading The Warded Man, which I've heard good things about.
Cheryl wrote: "Just finished reading Strange Angels, which I really enjoyed, and now I'm reading The Warded Man, which I've heard good things about."Good luck. I hated that book, but I'm in a minority.
Cheryl wrote: "...and now I'm reading The Warded Man, which I've heard good things about."I enjoyed it!
I'm getting into Daughter of the Empire and finishing up Night's Master.
So far this month, I have finished in reverse order:The Lathe of Heaven
The Magicians: A Novel
Salvation Army
Rogue Moon
Stormed Fortress
And am now reading The Humanoids by the Dean of SF, Jack Williamson This rather reminds me of The Day The Earth Stood Still
I'm reading The Merro Tree which is fabulous so far. I think it's going to be a 5 star book. I don't know when I've read anything so brilliantly evocative and sensual. Corrects everything that annoys me about Valente.

I'm planning on finally giving Stephen King a chance, and reading Full Dark, No Stars. Thought it'd be nice before I dive right into a NOTW re-read and a WMF first read.
we are all learning to listen to Janny!Ive only just started it, but am already anxious to get home to read some more!
Janny-was it also you that recommended Julian May? I boughtthe first of his series this weekend...

The Many-Coloured Land?
Don't recall that I recommended it. I read it so very long ago...the details are blurred, but I recall finishing it/as a decent story.

I faded out on A Darkness at Sethanon, but am enjoying Daughter of the Empire very much so far.

They're mostly standalone, although there are some callbacks. Was it Night's Master that had the best cat origin story I've ever read?
Joseph wrote: "Was it Night's Master that had the best cat origin story I've ever read? "Hmmm... good incentive to read the others. (Nope).
Just finished House of Chains and Cold Copper Tears. I was planning to read some more fat books, but decided I need to pay attention to The Merro Tree just because it sounds funner.
Paula wrote: "I'm reading The Name of the Wind, only a month late for the discussion but oh well."Never too late. The discussion threads are still open.

I finished Merro Tree and gave it 5 stars. It's wonderful.
Finished reading Century of the Soldier. I think it's safe to say Kearney is one of my favorite authors at this point. What a great series.Next up is Catching Fire.
Trevor wrote: "Finished reading Century of the Soldier. I think it's safe to say Kearney is one of my favorite authors at this point. What a great series.Next up is Catching Fire." Oh, I really liked Kearney's The Ten Thousand. I'll have to check out more of his novels.
I am currently reading The Weight of Blood by Dalglish, good but pretty dark. Next, I'll need something lighter. I think Dragon Haven by Hobb will be next.
I finished The High Place and decided to keep going with the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series -- there's just something about the tactile qualities of these 40 year old paperbacks; plus, with a few exceptions, the material is excellent. Next up: LUD-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees.
Finished Catching Fire. I remember hearing there was a dip in quality after The Hunger Games but I enjoyed this book just as much as the first.I think I'm going to read Good Omens next.

Good Omens is so much fun. I've read a few other takes on the whole Anti Christ/end of the world theme, but this one's the best. It has Pratchett's humor and Gaiman's wittiness and cynicism, which obviously work well together. It's such a "quotable" book.

This was my first time reading Terry Pratchett and Discworld just jumped a lot higher on my wish list.
Next up I'm going to read The Heroes.
