I read this book a few years ago.. I want to say 2006-ish, but I'm not sure. THe main character was a girl living in an orphanage where weird wind-up monkeys that needed coins to work kept secrets that the kids told them, which the kids could no longer remember... and the orphan's couldn't fly very well because of that... or something and there was a magic pen that did things... interestingly, that belonged to the girl (I think) and the girl's dad was trying to use it to find her... and her best friend at the orphanage was a boy who ended up being the best flier... I believe it was a kid's book, though I think it was in that grey area between kids and YA books... I borrowed it from a library I haven't been to since I returned it, and I can't recall what the cover looked like- I want to say it was mostly purple, but I honestly can't recall. THe monkeys couldn't tell anyone the secrets they kept because of inflation- I remember that. If anyone has any idea what the heck this book is, it would be wonderful- it's been bothering me for MONTHS!
