I think this was the song that began my obsession with the music.
This song was my starting point for Phantom, period, and it's a very pretty song, but it's not my favorite from the show. That honor is reserved for MOTN. It must be my devotion to Erik rearing its head there. ;)
RAOUL ROCKS IN THIS SCENE. PATRICK WILSON AND MICHAEL BALL ARE THE BEST RAOULS EVER. IT'S SO HEART-WARMING AND BEAUTIFUL AND EVERYTHING UNTIL ERIK COMES IN.

Yes, he tears out my heart but he ruins the scene with his crying and it makes me really sad!!
I know exactly what you mean. I feel all happy and cheerful in AIAOY; I just can't help myself. Then Erik comes along and I get so depressed I start crying myself!
Yes, he tears out my heart and nearly makes me cry and want to embrace him and tell that I would do anything for him and let him take me anyway....except I couldn't.
Raoul girl all the way, huh? Good for you! And I'm with you on the staying clear of Erik at this point in time. He was unstable to start with, but he snapped completely here.
Who wouldn't snap when he realizes the girl he secretly loves love another guy? I would be in great sobbing tears if I found that out? I am not really a total Raoul freak however he's a really great person, I feel a pang of guilt and a sharp pang of sorrow for the Phantom and I wish that he could have had someone to love him.
Oh, I can't blame him for going crazy either. I think that's the worst part of it. It would be easier on the heartstrings if we could hate him, but I just can't. I can't even hate Raoul for coming in and setting it all off. They all deserved to be loved, yet poor Erik got left out in the cold.
I know, I can't hate him despite the fact that he's a evil, twisted guy but the scene of him left in the snow crying over a rose makes me cry inside but then I can't blame Raoul coming in and making me feel all good inside.
We need the balance of the sorrow we feel for Erik and the joy we feel at Raoul for the whole thing to work right. I wish it could have been flip-flopped, with the heart-wrenching reprise coming before the actual song, but then it wouldn't make any sense.
No, it wouldn't make sense but it's a truly heart-wrenching song to begin with after he has his heart broken and his love for Christine is so deep.
*thinks of epic heart-wrenchingness* We need to think of something cheerful! What's everyone's favorite pairing for the actual song, Erik aside? If they could engineer a Patrick Wilson/Gina Beck duet, it would be amazing!

The Phantom allowed himself to create this whole life with Christine that didn't exist and eavesdropping on this just destroyed him. Of course, it is at this point that I became completely convinced that if Christine stayed with the Phantom, he would harm her eventually. No one can live up to someone's idealized version of them, so poor Christine was doomed to be a victim of domestic violence!
I would be totally in love with that. Patrick embraces Gina while he sings his heart out, I would love to see it but he might be too old though. It would make my heart ache, pound and so on if it happened.
Excellently put, Christina. He idolized her and put her up on a pedestal, so when the woman Christine deviated from his ideal Christine, like at Stranger Than You Dreamt It, he was bound to go nuts on her. And Anna, if they would only do that one duet, I could die happy.
I would die happy if I was able hear Gerald finish with his heartbreaking solo. By the way, Gemma, have you ever seen John Own Jones as the phantom? He broke my heart more than even Gerald. It also has Gina Beck, she's an angel.
I haven't seen him live, but I love all the clips I've watched on YouTube. I can't stop watching MOTN with him and Gina. It's just amazing!
Last night I watched him perform the final lair and it broke my heart, Gina was amazing!! The Raoul could have been much better.

Everytime, everytime I see Erik cries, I cry with him, especially when the acting is superb. Stranger than You Dreamt it, the Reprises, and the Final Lair. One cannot watch Phantom with indifferent heart.
