My favorite so far in the series. I loved this one. I guess I am shallow ... I like a little man handling ..... lol Is that bad?????

Not bad at all. I couldn't put this book down when I read it. I still adore Lachlain, even if he is crazy and a little rough!

I fell in love with this series when I read the short story The Warlord Wants Forever..it has everything I love in a paranormal romance: a Hot Alpha male, a feisty heroine, action, great humor and steamy romance!

Emmaline and Lachlain are just awesome, I couldn't get enough of them and didn't put this book down to see what would become of them. It was an all-night read! I can't wait to keep reading and meet the new couples.

I finished reading this book for the second time. I read this book for the first time some years ago. I found Emma too whiny, too annoying. Maybe my problem was this book was the first paranormal romance I read. But reading this book a second time and with an open mind... I LOVED IT! Loved Emma! Loved Lachlain! I really understand Emma's pain, her insecurities, low self-esteem. I loved she was such a bad ass. Lachlain was not an easy partner, but the motivations for his actions are very clear. We can understand his actions. And he is so passionate and loving! I'm more of a vampire lover, BUT Lachlain is a HOT Lykae. ;)

Yup, Emma was so sheltered in all her life that she didn't even know who she was. She discovered herself as a woman and as a Vamp/Valkyrie/Warrior with Lachlain. I love this book!!! Lachlain is HOT and my fave Lykae!!!!!

I am almost finished with this book and I can already say I love it. I know some readers were bothered with Emma b/c she is somewhat weak, shy and totally not what you're used to in a heroine, but I actually liked it b/c I'm alway so used to the bad ass ones/strong heroines that I never see the shy ones and it was a good change and I loved Lachlain! He was sooooo HAWT! And that scottie accent? *SWOON*

Glad you liked it, Mariya. It is one of my favs. In fact, I just listened to it via audio and it GREAT! While the narrator, Robert Petkoff, does both voices for Lachlain and Bowen with Scottish accents, each voice was clearly distinguishable from the other. **sigh**

This book is part of why I am so hooked on paranormal romance. IAD remains in my top favorite series!

Finished "A Hunger Like No Other" and loved it.
Finished "A Hunger Like No Other" and loved it. I enjoyed the steamy and intense chemistry between Lachlain and Emma. You can't go wrong with a sexy, hot highlander who is also a werewolf (although it is a little disappointing that he doesn't actually shift into a wolf). Emma is a wonderful heroine and her transition from shy and timid lass to kick-ass vampire slayer is simply brilliant.
Also loved the secondary characters, especially Nix and Bowen.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Lauren. I couldn't put this book down. I was reading it with my mouth wide open.

It was one of my first. I think I read Night Pleasures first and this one second. Even as a big Sherrilyn Kenyon/Kinley MacGregor fan, KC left her in the dust.

I think we should start a new topic about what was our first pnr novel. AHLNO was indeed one of my firsts. I went from Vampire Academy

straight to J.R. Ward and t..."Great ideal. I've followed in Pretty much the same order as you . Though I read The Night Huntress series somewhere in between Vampire Academy and BDB. With Midnight Breed mixed in also . I'm hooked, line and sinker into PNR...lol. Originally reading started out as a mommy daughter venture with Twilight and The House of Night and then grew from there. Reading takes me to another realm of sorts and settles my mind...lol
oh i finished this book today and i was wondering why didnt i read the series earlier

Just finished re-reading this book and it is still one of my favorites of the series. Lachline is great. Even if he is damaged and crazy in the beginning. I mean who won't be after all he had been through. I love Emma too. I really enjoyed watching her come into her own and "tame the beast" so to speak. The Lykae in this series are the best...although...I love the vampires, and the demons too.

I found the prologue very helpful in explaining Lachlain's attitude toward finding Emma and his obsession with her as well has his difficulty accepting a vampire as a mate.
Totally agree Ellen! Normally I am a vampire girl all the way but with this series....I just can't decide...I love them all so much.
Totally agree Ellen! Normally I am a vampire girl all the way but with this series....I just can't decide...I love them all so much. Lauren, I agree that the prologue was helpful. He had been looking for her for so long and then to discover that she is a lore creature that you were torchured by must have been agonizing for him.

I agree with you both, Lauren and Jessica. Lachlain's behavior makes perfect sense within the story framework. I didn't have an issue with him because I understood why he was acting that way. If you take him out that framework, then yes, he has some questionable actions.

I just finished reading this book and I thought it was okay. I definitely looked the hero - Lachlan. He was awesome, all my favorite alpha male goodies tied up in a neat Scottish Werewolf package, what more can a woman ask for. I can't say I loved Emma. I agreed with Cole giving him a sheltered and frightful heroine to compensate for his over controllingness however there was just something about her that was a little of to me.

Hi Jamie. When you say that Emma is off, are you referring to her timidity? It's not typical for this genre to have a timid heroine.
Personally, I like the change. It's very affirming to women overall to have this strong, kickbutt heroine to emulate, but I think some women need to see a woman in transition who is starting one way and is becoming who she was always meant to be.

I am not sure if it was he timidness or just her uncertainty with herself and her life. It is like she had no idea who she was she just sort of lived off whatever her aunts had told her. I guess that is why finding Lachlin was such a good thing because it forced her out of her shell. Maybe I couldn't connect with Emma because Lachlin was soooo lovable!'

Sometimes it just happens with a certain character. I respect that.
I actually like that Emmaline is uncertain. She seems like a girl in her twenties who has been sheltered and finding her way in the world. I know I was very timid at least into my mid-twenties.
But that's just me!

I loved Emma precisely because she transitions from a naive and timid mouse into a kick-ass vampire slayer.

No way could he have a Sabine heroine, the two would kill each other.

straight to J.R. Ward and the BDB ..."This, A Hunger Like No Other, was my first PNR. It look a lot of convincing to get me to read a PNR. I was so afraid PNR was like people(humans) having sex with dogs and cats in cat form.
Although I now know there are books where that sort of thing happens.

I definitely couldn't see Lachlain with a Sabine type heroine!

Definitely not! They would end up killing each other. As alpha as Rydstrom is, he doesn't come close to Lachlain and he and Sabine came close to killing each other as it is.

IMO, Lachlain needed a heroine that was gentle and Sabine is definately not that. Emma was a perfect match for him. Love Sabine through and she was just what Rydstrom needed. Someone to pull out his inter-demon so to speak. He was just to repressed. :)
