Rosina | 1714 comments morning....I am about 50% through my book...hoping to have it done by tomorrow morning....

Carlyn | 466 comments Do you guys have big tbr piles?

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Guess that depends on what you call big. I have at least 800 books here to read. Brought in another 8 just a couple of days ago, got 2 in the mail from games at PBS, and found 1 more at HPB today!

It'll sound big to some, but I know folks at PBS that have over 1000 books TBR.

Oh yeah - I didn't include ebooks in that total. Probably have a couple of hundred there.....

message 54: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments I have a huge TBR pile....I would estimate my TBR pile is over 1500 books....I have been meaning to take a day and put every single book I have on goodreads and then I would know for sure....

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Yeah.....I keep meaning to do that too! So far I've only put in the YA stuff....and I've gotten more than that since I put it in.

message 56: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I'm the same! I have so many books to be read and yet I have new releases coming out (some of which I have to read as soon as it comes through the door) so I'm not entirely sure how I am going to get through them all! Not counting the fact that I have two little girls (one 3 and the other 1) who don't like mummy's attention anywhere apart from them! lol:)

message 57: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Carlyn you must be quite busy with your little ones...how do you find time to read?....

My problem is I always end up buying more than I can read....I wish I had gads of time to sit and read then maybe I might be able to get in the 300+ books/year ranks....

I end up buying books with covers I love, or stories that sound interesting but then I dont get around to reading them for awhile...And series I wish I could just read one series at a time but then they dont always fit into my challenges....

Anyone have an idea about chip placement?

message 58: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments Zina I have to read when ever I get the chance! I also unfortunately judge a book by it's cover, or good recommendations by friends!

Don't even get me started on series' I can't stop and apparently a lot of them cant either! lol

With chip placement I would go with in the centre because we hace more space to move ! :)

message 59: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments That's a good spot!

Have a nice day/evening everyone. Heading home from work so I'll talk at ya tomorrow.

message 61: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments We could go D2 to cut Teals moving possibilities and leaving us with a few ways to move.

Rosina | 1714 comments Morning ladies as promised I finished my book

Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling, #3) by Nalini Singh June 8
5 stars

Brenna, the young wolf female introduced in Slave to Sensation has emerged from her horror a changed person. No one seems to understand what she went through. No one except for former Arrow Judd Lauren. He finds himself drawn to the strong female, yet caught within the constraints of his Psy conditioning. When it seems like the threat to Brenna has not decreased, Judd and Brenna must fight for their lives and what has started to spark between them.

Nalini Singh is an amazing writer and weaves a wonderful tale of love and triumph. This is a terrific book with fully fleshed out characters, a fast-moving plot with many twists and turns as well as some tantalizing surprises. I love the Psy Changeling series, and absolutely fell in love with Judd.

message 63: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments now that I am done lets look at chip placement.

message 64: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments C1, D2, E2 or F1 would be the best placement possibilities. Carlyn suggested D2 and I'm willing to go along with that.

message 65: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments K will put in for D2

message 66: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments Thought I would get into the spirit of things and change my profile pic! :)

message 67: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Great pic Carlyn....

How long has everyone been reading PNR/UF....this is new for me since the beginning of the year....I was a chick lit babe and mystery/thriller reader but have definitely flipped over...

message 68: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I've been reading it for about 3 or 4 years, my friend Michelle (team teal) introduced me to it. My man will never forgive her for that judging by the amount of money i've spent on the books. LOL :)

I saw an icon once and it said "If I stare at you it's not because I like you it's because I'm trying to figure out how to kill my villain" Yeah! I'm curious as to how many ways he's plotted my death ;)

And Congrats on the chip!

Rosina | 1714 comments thanks for the congrats and flowers...

Off to the lake again this weekend...so excited....it means tons of reading time for me.....I have to finish The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1) by Brent Weeks and I am in a group read for A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin ......

What is your preference for reading books? hard copy or digital? ....I am a hard copy girl but have recently beeen introduced to didital....just got my iphone and I am blown away.....I had a kobo but hubby kept hogging it and then I broke it .....my elbow smashed onto tthe screen...oops....

message 79: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I was very weary of digital until I got my kindle! I love it and I have no space left in my house for books. This is the perfect solution and it lets you download free books! You can't argue with that.

Although I still have to get all my fave series' and author on paper! :)

message 80: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I agree, Carlyn. Space saving is HUGE + for me and eBooks. But, like you, I continue to buy my faves in PB or HC.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Things finally started picking up at work this week, we're moving into our busy season, and I wasn't able to participate in the discussion about UF & PNR before now.

I read an eclectic mix of books: UF, Romance, Mysteries, Horror, SF/F, biographies, ... But I tend to concentrate more on books with fantastic elements. Come to think of it, that's a good reflection of my Movie & TV viewing choices also, LOL. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a child and soon moved on to Susan Cooper's Dark is rising sequence. I still like to do the occaisional reread of these old favorites.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis Over Sea, Under Stone (The Dark is Rising, #1) by Susan Cooper

I fell in love with King & Koontz in high school and discovered Mercedes Lackey at college. The Last-Herald Mage trilogy is still my all time favorite of her works. Lackey's Diana Tregarde series was another favorite, unfortunately UF wasn't a trend yet and they didn't sell well enough for the author to continue. I tended to read a lot of straight fantasy and SF and happily zipped through any paranormals I stumbled over, including P.N. Elrod's Vampire Files and Tanya Huff's Victoria Nelson series & Keeper Chronicles (mini-vans are tools of the devil).

The Stand by Stephen King Lightning by Dean Koontz Magic's Pawn (Valdemar Last Herald-Mage, #1) by Mercedes Lackey Burning Water (Diana Tregarde, #1) by Mercedes Lackey Bloodlist (Vampire Files, #1) by P.N. Elrod Blood Price (Victoria Nelson, #1) by Tanya Huff Summon the Keeper (Keeper's Chronicles, #1) by Tanya Huff

Then I discovered Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner and happily so did a lot of other readers. Regardless of where you stand on the Laurell K Hamilton debate (I personally prefer the older books over the newer), she deserves a lot of credit for her contributions in making UF a genre in its own right. After a couple years, UF was everywhere and it's still going strong. The majority of my book purchases are UF, PNR, paranormal-mysteries, ... and there are plenty of options to choose from now.

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Another egg joke. It's a groaner!

What day of the week scares eggs the most?

(view spoiler)

message 83: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I'm with you on that! I much prefer the earlier Anita Blake's but the new one was a lot better (mostly because Edward was in it a lot!) Lot less orgies and more story!

:)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL Lovin' your yolks, Daffodil.

Carlyn | 466 comments Harmony's Way (Breeds, #8) Harmony's Way by Lora Leigh

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was the story of Harmony, an assassin known as death and a sheriff named Lance. This is the eighth tale in the breeds series. The breeds are genetically altered humans who have the characteristics of animals. They experience the mating hear when they meet their mate.

These books can be a hit or a miss for me as sometimes it seems like they have no choice in the matter and that can seem like a shady line at points and the mating heat only ends when the woman conceives. The villains in these books range from the people who created them to the people who believe they should die because they are not god's creatures.

I hope she will evolve the books so that the mating heat is not the base of it all.
