Dune the movie (directed by David Lynch) isn't faithful to the book. It's a hard novel to translate into the big screen. Dune the Miniseries is more faithful to the novel.

I have them both. But I like the first film more. Kyle McLachlan, Sting and Patrick Stewart trumps.

note : Lets just say, I'm not impressed, since i'm strongly against using the idea of male lead rape female lead thingy. It did gave false sense of security that the rapist as a husband is allowed. Dude, the idea freaks me out, I studied psychology of rapist for my presentation (I got A in it BTW) and it was nasty. Same goes to Ombak Rindu. Like romanticizing stockholm syndrome or something.

well.. its a fantasy... but shouldn't be made into this kind of genre, I could totally accept the idea in a thriller fiction btw (like having a serial killer as a husband --> Dexter). Seriously, even the tv series nauseated me up with the "sweetness". Really la, dah la stalker, possessive giler, paranoid... hahaha

27. Suzanne Collins - Hunger Games

I wanted to read it after I saw the movie but I predicted that my JB wedding trip yesterday will be a bore, and so I finished the book in record time. Its kinda sad that I've been exposed to "Battle Royale" and "Lords of the Flies" first and so "teenagers killing each other" storyline is not a new thing for me. I wish it was more violent though... oh well.

Hunger Games had all the tropes of the 'teenagers in life or death' storyline. I see it as a 21st century update of Lord of the Flies.

I wonder if you've read The Long Walk by Stephen King? The basic concept of the book is almost the same as the Hunger Games but more gruesome IMO.

I think "Lost" is most appropriate for the 21st century version of Lord of the Flies. I had read it during a discussion in a tuition for SPM's Literature in English (there was 5 of us taking the subject in Kuala Terengganu, I'm the only one doing Frankenstein while the rest do LotF).

I had briefly read The Long Walk. But I couldn't say it was like Hunger Games, its more like a version of the Biggest Loser.

note: I think the husband wrote most of it. It definitely man-style writing. All the fight scenes and the details on the monsters and such. trololol... not sure I would call it romance novel at this stage.

Y'know, I loved this fantasy series but George Martin is taking such a long time to write the next installment that I've given up on it. I'm not even going to watch the HBO miniseries.

LMAO! Usually fantasy books are geared to male readers (as in too heavy on violence and too heavy with politics) so I didn't really bother with "A Game of Thrones" until the first pilot came out and I saw Sean Bean in it and immediately I got addicted.

But I kinda glad that I didn't start reading the book. A lot of "based on book" movie/tv suck because I read the original stuff first... sigh.

Peter Dinklage is perfect as Tyrion Lannister BTW. Nuff said, he's the real reason many watch Game of Thrones.

And that's another reason why I'm not gonna watch the HBO series. There might be changes made that will piss off those who read the books first. Like Martin's knack of killing off main characters...ooops, pecah rahsia!

note : read my review to know how freaking tiring it is to read this freaking thick book (40 chapters with absolute no fillers.. aiya..). Recommended to those who like pre-apocalypse faefever's series with a mash up of everything. Why must it was called a YA novel? its NOT a YA novel even if Aoife is 15.

39. Addison Moore - Ethereal

I tried to like it. But I can't stand fillers and this book have 50 chapters X_X and I skip half of them. Since the author add me as her friend list, I can't really say anything in the review and risk hurting her feeling and typed "I've tried". I've tried to like it. I've tried to enjoy it. But I gave up when the word "Lust" kept coming out every few paragraphs and I found out that I hate YA novels that have mind-reading characters. The faction angel theme is uninteresting. I know this is a debut novel, but some parts needed to tone down (inane teenage new kid and BFF stuff) and some things should keep to the middle chapter to make things more interesting (I never buy "I met my soulmate at a glance" thing and partying, period cramp... *aiyo*) it still made me second guessing to publish my novels even when I had people wanting more.

The book sucks. Avoid it. Its for tweens and not for young adult (above 16-20s range).

some are gems while some are rubbish. The good ones are usually by transition writers; adult novelist turned YA or older novelist... unfortunately, YA genre are also the nesting area for writers who make parody of their works... thankfully, I get most of my YA in ebook, my house is too small to keep bad writings.

You'll be glad to know that the tv series follows the book very closely (very minor changes), down to the actual dialogue. Unlike True Blood, but let's not go there...

Seeing that the author himself is the executive producer of the show, I'm sure he'd mind greatly if the TV writers want to tweak his baby to great extend.

I love both the series and the book. The former, of course, helps to visualize the surrounding vividly and it's nice to put a face to the (many) names in the book.
