I run a small book club that needs some fresh blood. We recently lost of lot of members to the crisis and Dubai. We just read a classic, Madame Bovary by Flaubert, and next month we are reading Tinkers by Paul Harding. We typically read literature, and often read books from Booker prize short or long lists. For the summer we will be on hiatus, due to the lack of members, but in the Fall we will start up again. Please feel free to contact me at abudhabibookclub(at)gmail.com if you are interested.Danielle
I would love to participate in a 'GoodReads' book group :) Particularly if it was online... Do you think that would work?
Hi it seems that you all read English books, i would like to join your club but i rarely read English novels..
if anyone is interested in doing Arabic club I'll join.
This is what the Kutub group in Dubai does. They have a great site for book suggestions that are available in both languages if you're interested:
http://readkutub.wordpress.com/catego...
The Kutub group's book list looks like a great place for me to get book ideas. Great link, thank you.
And the arablit site as well! I'm planning to concentrate on literature of this region and have a lot of reading to catch up on.
If you are able to make it to Dubai for the discussions you may find the books much more enjoyable. I find some of them a bit inaccessible without other people's input.
The meetings are open, come once, or every month, no problem either way.
@ DanielleNo luck with the email, I'm afraid...

Hi

Hello all, Our book club will be reading When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman and discussing on November 14th. If you want to join us or discuss on-line, let me know. Danielle

Our group enjoyed the book too and we gave it a fairly high rating of 3.8 out of 5. It would be great if you could join us sometime. Send me your email address on abudhabibookclub(at)gmail.com and I will send you our reading list for the next 6 months. This month we are reading White Woman on a Green Bicycle by Monique Roffey. It is set in Trinidad and Tobago and is an interesting analysis of a marriage challenged by living as expats long-term. The political context is equally engrossing.
We meet in one week, on Monday, December 5th.

Hi - I have just moved to AD and am looking for a book club to join. Does anyone have any recommendations?
There's this one that I believe is still active, Danielle? I attend one through Meet-up. We're meeting at Cafe Arabia on Saturday evening (Oct 6). We're international and both men and women, we discuss in English but some read the books in Arabic (and discuss it in English). This meeting we're discussing 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel.

Hi Emma, I have wound up one book club and joined two others! One is in the evening, but we are not accepting new members now. Another is a breakfast club. You could also try Expatwomen Forum. They have an on-line book club and somebody may be running an Abu Dhabi group. There is also www.abudhabiwoman.com which has a forum and possibly a book group. Good luck!Kate, Glad to hear you have a good group for meeting up!
