Peep (Pop! Pop!) Just a place to post books you're giving up on or quiting - or thinking about it. I know that there are some members who don't ever quit books, which is totally cool.

Maybe by posting them someone who has read it can convince you to keep going!

message 2: by Katy (new)

Katy The last book I gave up on was Thirteen Days to Midnight by Patrick Carman I really wanted to like it because I felt the premise was interesting but I felt the build was to slow for me, plus the time line was a little wibbly wobbly timey wimey for me : )

message 3: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) I try to finish every book I read, even if I hate it. But sometimes I can't. The last book I gave up on was North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley . It didn't really catch my attention, and the map references were too much for me.

rebecca j (technophobe) | 15 comments I'm struggling through Hunger right now, for some reason it just isn't holding my attention like the first book did. Will try to finish it though, I hate to give up now.

I really tried to get into Gone and I really wanted to like it but I just felt like it was so slow but I continue to wrestle with going back to it.

message 6: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I liked Gone and Hunger.

I gave up on Sweet Valley Confidential Ten Years Later by Francine Pascal ... I tried, I really did.

Ladyacct | 8 comments There hasn't been a YA book that I have quit, but quite a few of the adult ones I have I will admit.

Michelle Skeens (seeshelle) | 5 comments I gave up on Artemis Fowl-for now. I guess that's really MG though. I tried several times but I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I will try again!

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

I don't think Artemis Fowl is MG. Both my libraries shelve it as YA, and that, I think, is where it belongs.

i was having the same problem but when i finally got through it and onto the third book, Plague (Gone, #4) by Michael Grant it was alot better :)

Aw, I loved Artemis! But then I think I read it at just the right age. I always remembered it as being at the older end of MG, or maybe the lower border of YA. Or both! :)

message 12: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka I usually never give up on books but at the end of The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3) by Philip Pullman , I was really tired of the trilogy and didn't bother to read the end. I just skipped pages to see vaguely how it ended.

message 13: by Jeanine (last edited May 25, 2011 02:19PM) (new)

Jeanine (truejourney) | 120 comments I am definitely giving up on the House of Night series and the Blue Bloods series.
I don't think I would be as dissapointed in the Blue Bloods series if the author would stop releasing novels that are short enough to be novellas and are just as expensive on my kindle as the physical book... What about you guys? Does anyone else feel a little cheated with the series?

I've only read the first one and I think it's more MG, or at the very, very low end of YA... at least from what I can remember!

I read the whole series, and it seems very YA to me. My library shelves it as YA too.

message 17: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments I too gave up on House of Night, Vampire Academy, Blue Bloods, Vampire Diaries..(I think there's a pattern here!)

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Oh, if we are talking about series I gave up on Vampire Academy after the first book, Blue Bloods (think I read two of them), Night Huntress, Evernight, Timeless (read the first ones on those)_

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifer1416) | 10 comments I am struggling with the Wicked Lovely series. I made it through the first one, but it was tough. I was curious enough to try the second one, and it's just as bad. I hate this! I always want to finish a series but not sure if I'll make it through these!

message 20: by Hey There Delilah!! (last edited May 25, 2011 04:16PM) (new)

Hey There Delilah!! (lilone322) | 7 comments Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate didn't even finish it and Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel stopped after the third book

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Oh gosh, I gave up after Fallen too. And Beautiful Creatures.

message 22: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) Just Delilah wrote: "Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate didn't even finish it and Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel stopped after the third book"

I didn't even read the second Immortals book, because I really really disliked Evermore (The Immortals, #1) by Alyson Noel

Hey There Delilah!! (lilone322) | 7 comments Yeah I made it half through Fallen and had to but it down... The Immortal series I was trying to give it a try since it was one of the 1st series I read when I started collecting books again. I just couldn't see myself finishing this series

message 24: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine (truejourney) | 120 comments I forgot that I gave up on Vampire Diaries. I guess that just went without saying :) I really liked Fallen a lot but disliked the second book. As far as the immortal series, for some reason I've read them all and plan on reading the last one as well, even though I don't think they are very good. I know!! it doesn't make any sense. I guess I just want to see if Ever and Damon will ever get to... you know :)
I stopped reading the Caster series after the first book, too. Beautiful Creatures felt like it went on and on and didn't even provide the action that I need to keep me interested.

I have not read House of night or Blue Bloods but I feel similarly about Maximum Ride. The books get smaller and smaller and they aren't as good as the first 3 or 4. I do plan on finishing the series though but I am in no hurry. The first book was 424 pages and the latest one (according to GR is 242).

It's almost like they are getting super greedy or something. They want more money so they divide one book in half and sell the two halves for the price of a full paged book. It really pisses me off.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments I actually liked the Vampire Diaries books that were written in the nineties. It was the later ones that made me wonder what the heck happened and that I did not like.

I also loved Poison Study and Magic Study and the third book was such a disappointment I wished I had never picked it up. I liked the first three or so books of Women of the Underworld and then just lost interest.

I loved the first 3 Maximum Ride books, but from book #4 on it's just crap.

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments Ugh I read Poison Study, I finished it and do not plan on picking up the other books!

Daria (dariadeptula) Ottilie wrote: "Ugh I read Poison Study, I finished it and do not plan on picking up the other books!"

Really? Why didn't you like it? I really really like the Study series.

message 31: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments The first problem is my fault, I thought it was historical fiction so when it was fanatsy it threw me off. I didn't like how it was fanatasy but the characters were inventing food that was from our releam like cinnonon buns. The characters just weren't doing much for me. I'm sorry I'm bashing a book you really like, I just couldn't get into it.

Lauren⁷ 💜 (lrc123) | 5 comments I haven't given up on many books or series, the only two i can think of are. The Anita Blake series which i gave up on after i snored my way through the first book. And I'm glad that i gave up on it after all the bad things i heard about the later books. And i also gave up on the House Of Night series, i could not have cared less about Zoey and how the authors presented Christians really bugged me as well. I'm a Christian, but I'm certainly not a narrow minded, bigoted, idiot and i did not appreciate her painting us all with that brush.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments To each his own on books! Funny how somehow in some little way it hurts when someone does not like a book that we really like. It does me anyway even though I understand it and I do that with other people's favorites too. Loving a book or even liking it is personal. Kind of like a friend that you want your friends to like too!

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Oh yeah, gave up on House of Night books too..... I think I read two of them.

Seriously, Terry... You didn't like Fallen??? lol
I think the mystery drew me in. I am a sucker for mystery :)

It's OK, I'm not offended. I just wanted to know why you didn't like it.

message 38: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments I'm also confused on what genere it is, I see it in romance then in YA

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments @Jeanine, I read Fallen quite a long time ago and I guess I didn't even review it - probably before I started reviewing books on here. I didn't hate it but just didn't love it either. I looked at some of the reviews to remind me.

@Ottillie, I would consider the Study series fantasy but they are a romance and I guess YA too. YA Fantasy Romance!

message 40: by Katy (new)

Katy Ottilie wrote: "I'm also confused on what genere it is, I see it in romance then in YA"

Yeah it is a little confusing, I know from working in a bookstore that we had originally shelved it in sci-fi and then the publishers re-branded them and marketed for YA, so the books were then shelved in two different locations based on which cover of the book it was.

message 41: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments Haha Terry that's how I would shelf it but it was in a shelf by the BDB books! That must have been fusterating Katy!

message 42: by Kath (new)

Kath (zchy10) | 7 comments I gave up on Grace of Day (Grace, #4) by S.L. Naeole . It's the last book but I just couldn't push myself to finish it. Maybe one day I'll read it again considering I try to finish whatever I started. The Long Walk by Stephen King is also something I couldn't finish. Well, at least I'm still on the first few chapters when I stopped.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments I wish the book stores would not put fantasy and sci-fi together. They are not the same and I do not care for sci-fi much at all and love fantasy.

message 44: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (awaken80) I feel the exact same way except in reverse, Terry!

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments So they should be separate! LOL

message 46: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments I prefer watching sci-fi then reading it, I notice my reading and movie taste are soemtimes opposites.

message 47: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (awaken80) I totally agree, haha!

I feel the same way, Ottilie. I don't like to read purely love story books, but I love that kind of movie. And I think I prefer sci-fi movies over books, though I do really like sci-fi books.

message 48: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments I'm picky with sci-fi books, movies I'm less so. I can handle sappier books then I can with movies.

message 49: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (awaken80) I guess we're half-alike then, lol.

message 50: by Ottilie (new)

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) | 484 comments Haha yeah, I'm not a real emotional person so that might be part of it.
