intro to game of thrones show - dyson sphere?

The world in the intro to the show kind of looks like a Dyson sphere, with the sun inside surrounded by a ball. Maybe that would explain the long seasons? Hmmm...

Interesting catch! I never really noticed how the layout looks like it is on the inside surface of a sphere. I guess it could be due to the fisheye lens they use on the camera.

I vaguely recall reading an article about the making of the opening credits where they said it was designed to be on the inside of a sphere.

I didn't make the Dyson Sphere connection at the time, but that's kinda cool!

I never thought about Westeros as being a self contained environment like in Hex or Ringworld, but I have been wondering if it were a colony world that reverted. There were some comments in 'Crows' about lost technology that made me think about David Weber's 'Safehold' series.

I hope we're not seeing a Robert Heinlein or Gene Wolfe type of generational starship where the inhabitants don't know they are in a ship.

I thought the Dyson sphere at the beginning of the show was the red comet. I'll stick with that until I know otherwise.

If it's a true Dyson sphere, then there would be no way for them to see a comet. Of course having them in a Generation Ship which is large enough to seem like a Dyson Sphere would explain why they need to periodically purge the human population with internal wars and a lessening of resources. Thy would limit the technology to Iron and Steel. The red comet could be an indicator of time of strife.

Remember Star Trek TOS ep with the quote "I have climbed the mountains and I have touched the Sky".

Would explain why the wall is so large.
