rather than a post this time we will use the new fangled (i think thats a word my grandma taught me) polls tool they've given us. I wanted everyone to have one day (today) just to read through the book blurbs to get a good picture on the books offered up this month. Late tonight I will make a poll for all the books so we can vote tomorrow through tuesday.

Thanks Tera!
And interesting Nicole Krauss who wrote The History of Love is married to... (for got his name) who wrote Incredibly Loud and Close.
Apparently they are both written is similar post modern style!
Really fascinating!

Okay so I got the poll up with all the books.
Thanks again for nominating some great ones.
Here is the run through of how we are going to do it this time with the new polls.
1) go to the "polls" section that you can find on the right hand side of your screen next.
2) vote ONE time please for the book you would like to have chosen for Novemeber.
3) Please vote for a book other than the one you nominated. My fear is if everyone votes for their own book we will have a 17 way tie on our hands. This way we will get a true picture of what people want to read as a group.
If on Friday there is a tie then we will do a run off vote with the two books tied for votes.
Thanks

Just a little thought I had as I read your post Tera......truly not meaning to sound difficult.
Did picking two books before eliminate the tie vote situation AND allow you to vote for you own book?

LOL Okay so I'm an idiot.
I set the date for it to start and end being 2009 rather than 2008. So it wouldnt let you vote until 9.8.09. Sorry, I fixed it and everyone should be able to vote now.
Holli you totally don't sound difficult (and lots of love and good wishes with your upcoming surgery.
To answer your question though, yes being able to pick two books before accounted for everyone likely picking their own book and then the next one they wanted to read. Thus creating a truer image of the groups choice.
We had fourteen women nominate books which is great. But if all 14 women vote their own book that pretty much voids their vote and leaves the power of decision making up to the rest of the voters. Does that make sense? Typically we get about 20 voters. So that would leave the choice of the book up to 6 women because the first 14 would cancel themselves out simply by nominating a book.
I just considered the one you nominated to be your first pick and now you get to vote for your second pick. Those that didn't nominate had no first pick so they are voting for one now along with everyone else.
I feel like I'm rambling (although that could be because its not 7 am yet and I was up too late playing xbox).
Let me know if I made any sense or if anyone has a question. I am totally open to another system if anyone has one of if you would all rather go back to the old method we can do that too.
Thanks,
t~

Holli - I hope your surgery goes well! Much peace to you!

AND, someone voted for my nomination without me voting for it! Wonderful!
I am going to vote.
Perhaps if we are not going to be able to vote for two we could have two votes.
Narrow the choices down to 3 maybe and then have another vote. If there are only 20 or so people who vote that might give us the best picture.
Of course I am not the one doing the all the work.. so tell me to Shut it! If I am making more work for you!
I am tough!
