Phil | 196 comments Years ago I checked out a book from my hometown library's young adult section that contained a number of obscure true ghost stories. The one that always stuck with me concerned a priest that died and was buried outside of his town. On the way back from the funeral the mourners saw him walking past the procession, his face having taken on an evil look.

Carlos JP Navia (carpageo) | 2 comments Sounds quite intriguing. I'm sorry I'm not able to offer you much help at the moment, but I think I'll try doing a few preliminary searches myself, since I think I'd like to locate the book now, too!
Best of luck in your search.

Phil | 196 comments Thanks! I have a feeling it may have been a Daniel Cohen book, but I haven't been able to find a bibliography on him that lists the stories in his books.

Kris | 215 comments Sounds a lot like an MR James story. His stories were written in the early 1900s and I believe all of them can be found at the Gutenberg Project.

Phil | 196 comments I believe it was from the 70s or 80s, and I know Cohen wrote a lot at the time. My old library may still have it but I can't search the catalog by individual locations.
