Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Hey everyone. I just published my first book, Being Human and am hoping to met more indie authors. Oh, and find a little help with promotion. ^^;;
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JNBWBO
For Tommy, there is only one thing he needs to do: survive.

Only surviving isn't that easy. The hunt for blood can be tricky when humans know to fear the night. Desire sits on the edge of his mind, urging him to become the monster humans think he is. Vampire Forces, a special branch of police, is determined to turn every vampire to ash. Tommy included.

The only human Tommy can trust is his twin brother. A bond connects them, and with Danny's help, Tommy starts to understand the human world he struggles to survive in. He'll learn what friendships means and feel the sting of betrayal, find that sometimes the worst monsters are very human, and come to understand that family means more than blood.

Tommy just wants to survive and he knows what he needs to do. But with the number of humans that mean more to him than a meal growing, he'll learn there's more to life than simple survival. He'll discover being human doesn't mean being a human.

Shaun Allan (singularity) | 1 comments Hi

I'm Shaun Allan and my book is a supernatural thriler Sin

It's been called 'incredible' and 'a masterpice of genuine creativity'. Sin took me ten years, in total, to write. Sin began as just a short story, and that became the prologue to the novel. Sin is very much like me in his tone and his sense of humour, although people don't tend to die around me...

He still won't keep quiet, though, and now has his own blog - his diary of a madman. And there's the sequel in the works too...

There's links to Amazon, Smashwords and more from Sin's page on my website at http://www.shaunallan.co.uk/sin.html and you can find his blog at http://singularityspoint.blogspot.com

Fancy a little Sin?

Simon (simonlread) | 3 comments I recently managed to get a book published. It is the result of having an extremely mind-numbing day-job and, as such, I wrote the book at my desk as I worked the days away.

A highly surreal collection of short stories, poems, letters and more.

Please feel welcome to join the Facebook page that I created for the book (soon to be my personal author page):

If you would like a copy of the book, you can get it here:

Scott Muller | 2 comments Hello,
I write fantasy epics. Here is the first book, Eyes of the Keep, in a new series titled, Legacy of the Ten. I have just finished the rough draft of the second book, the Third Sign. I hope you will check it out. My ebook is $2.99 in any format.

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005...
http://www.scottdmuller.com

The demons have returned and are ravaging the countryside. The realms appear to be under siege by unknown forces, and the Kings have dispatched armies to march in their defense. The powerful wizards of the Keep are oblivious, and remain in their Keep with their noses buried in their studies. Once, the wizards of the Havenhold Keep ruled the world and were considered gods, now, they are irrelevant and forgotten. Ja'tar, the Keeper of the wizards, is confused. Events lead him to believe, for the first time in centuries, that all is not right and that it may be time for the wizards to re-enter society. His friend Zedd'aki, the only other surviving mage from the days of yore, cautions him against rash action, while Dra'kor and his followers, long for adventure and are willing to risk all to have it.

If you enjoy sagas, filled with demons, wizards, intrique, mystery and plenty of action. I bet you will love this series.

Alycia Linwood (alycia_linwood) | 1 comments Hi,

I have recently published my novel Dangerous. Dangerous is the first book in Element Preservers series and it's young adult romance/fantasy. Here is the overview:

Ria is an 18-year-old girl who has just started going to the University of Magic, a special university for those who have one of the four elements: fire, water, air and earth. There she meets Michael, a boy whose element is different from hers, which makes their romantic involvement seem impossible because mixing of elements can have horrible consequences. She also feels threatened by Adrian, a very dangerous magic disease carrier. Magic disease, which surged as a result of bad mixing of elements, turns people into cold-hearted killers, who have a strong desire to take someone's element as they do not have their own. Ria's best friend, Paula, is fascinated by Adrian like most of the girls at the University and wants him to help her with her research about the disease. All Ria's beliefs are put to test when she starts having the symptoms of the disease and the only person she can turn to is Adrian.

You can sample it here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

Eryn Lockhart (ErynLockhart) | 1 comments I just finished my very first novel, a thrilling full-length historical romance called After Midnight. It's set during the early Napoleonic wars and Regency period, is available for both Kindle and Nook, and is approx 150,000 words.

....A Rakehell Rogue....
In a world plagued by Revolution and Intrigue, love is the most dangerous game of all. When Lucien Warrick’s mission to rescue a French ambassador’s family from the Revolution goes awry, he has no way of knowing that he’ll meet his lethally lovely charge again in London. A legendary shadow with godlike reputation in international intrigue, the Night Wolf is about to meet his match.

....A Defiant Damsel....
As the sole support for her remaining family, Jacqueline Gervais has no time to play damsel in distress. Instead, she turns her unusual talents towards rescuing the Calvary and British artillery by spying for the Crown. A woman as skilled in deception as she is in sabotage, The Golden Hind is a creature of fatal allure and a thousand faces.

....A Love That Will not be Ignored....
A war between two nations pales in comparison to their clash of wills and passion, but when a sinister web of betrayal and deceit forces them to become mortal enemies, will the cost be their lives, or their hearts? The fate of two empires hangs in the balance, and anything is possible...
After Midnight.

After Midnight by Eryn Lockhart I hope that you'll enjoy reading their story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Sincerely,
Eryn Lockhart

I'm about to release my first novel, a fantasy set in a real time and place, only about 600 years earlier than The Last Good Knight. It's called The Bones of the Earth, and I'm hoping to have it available through the usual sources by the end of the month.

ML Sansom (mlsansom) | 1 comments As the new guy over at Foxbridge Publishing, I'd like to take a minute to introduce our newest title from author Grant Sinclair.

The Forbidden Love of Don Ramon is a historic romance novel, set in 1835 California. Ramon Gutierrez is the son of a wealthy Spanish Don that has been betrothed to marry the daughter of Don Diego de Sola. Though he acknowledges that Chiquita de Sola is a beautiful woman, her beauty is small compensation for her wicked tongue.

Despite being honor bound to wed, Ramon's heart belongs to another. Torn between duty and love, Ramon must face his darkest emotions and a closely held family secret to discover where true passion and romance lies.

Thank you in advance for your book reviews. As the cover designer and editor, I appreciate the feedback.

Jim Galford (jgalford) Guess I'll jump on this bandwagon with "In Wilder Lands."

I'm Jim Galford, long-time writer who finally decided it was time to publish after having a rather rough year (short version: doc used the phrase "this might kill or paralyze you, but it's your only option"). And thus began the wonderful whirlwind writing/editing/publishing process.

The story is the first in what I hope will be a full series set in the world of Eldvar. Each book will focus on another land or people during a specific set of dramatic world events. This, I hope, will give the readers fresh perspective and a better understanding of what a world war might look like in a fantasy setting and how different people react very differently to the same events.

Genre is epic fantasy with all the classic style of races (elves, dwarves, etc), plus a few new ones unique to this world. 198k words. $2.99 ebook or $13.99 print edition.

I wrote Driving to BelAir: A Novella as an adaptation of a screenplay I started on in grad school. It's gotten positive early feedback, and people keep telling me it reads/sounds like a movie.

Here's the blurb:

Dale had everything—dream job, dream girl, dream life. When he moved to New York to chase his dreams, he never planned on returning to the Indiana farm where he grew up. Yet, one phone call from his ex-fiance brings him back to face the brothers he abandoned and the consequences of the choices he made in pursuit of those dreams. Will a father's last wish be the key to reuniting a family torn apart by tragedy? Or will Dale lose everything while driving to BelAir.

Holly (hollybourque) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Holly and my husband published My Name Is Joe by Stefan Bourque My Name Is Joe last fall. He has been writing ever since he can remember, but "My Name Is Joe" has become his favorite as it marked a significant change in his writing style.

Here is a little bit about it:

In what has been called a masterpiece of emotion, Stefan Bourque's "My Name Is Joe" has been celebrated by readers around the world as an inspiring tale and a reminder of the great capacity for human kindness.

Joe, a quiet and introspective loner has discovered he will soon cease to exist due to an aggressive, incurable cancer. Lonesome in his final days and after long contemplation he decides to do something that he has never thought to do before--Joe decides to reach out to his fellow man in an effort to teach others the valuable lesson he is learning before it is too late.

With a single act of kindness Joe inadvertantly pulls toward him a young, single mother who carries her own deep-seated guilt for the death of her mother.

Can these two wayward souls find the redemption that they each so desperately need before time and death separate them? This is a tale of compassion, redemption and the deliverance that can only be achieved through the courage and love that human beings possess but too infrequently share.

"Powerful, unflinching, courageous and just in time!" -- Amanda Grace White

What readers are saying:

"Restored my faith in the potential for human kindness."

"... an emotional book, you'll likely be left with a renewed appreciation for life."

"I absolutely loved this book. Stefan Bourque has a way of romancing his readers with his fluid, almost poetic prose and turns of phrase."

"My name is Eryk and I just made a new friend whose name is Joe."

"... it definitely asks the hard questions."

"Bourque has written a beautiful book with My Name Is Joe."

Please don't. Just an opinion from someone who's been in the publishing business for 45 years. Quid-pro-quo clicks and favorable reviews are destroying the EBook market. But, I'm not alone. Here's what the New York Times recently said about it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/20/tec...

Also, here's what Amazon had to say about it in the article: "But they are concerned about the integrity of those reviews. “Any one review could be someone’s best friend, and it’s impossible to tell that in every case,” said Russell Dicker, Amazon’s director of community. 'We are continuing to invest in our ability to detect these problems'."

Suggest you be part of the solution in the future rather than part of the problem.

Belinda Buchanan My second novel, The Monster Of Silver Creek, is now available.

It was so much fun to write, and I admit I'm a little sad that it's finished.

Here's the summary:

Silver Creek is known for its miles of pristine shoreline. Tourists flock every summer to partake in the water activities and fun in the sun.
But a sinister killer is on the loose. A killer who feeds off of young women's fear...and leaves a most unusual calling card.
Police Chief Nathan Sommers is on the hunt, but every road leads to a dead end.

Nathan is battling his own personal demons as he tries to cope with the death of his wife. Two years have passed since, but he
feels her dying was a direct result of his actions and he is consumed by guilt.

His personal life just became more complicated when he meets Katie, the pretty new owner of the bakery. Nathan slowly builds a relationship
with her, but still struggles with Jenny's death.

As he draws nearer to the killer, everything in his life suddenly comes undone. He is forced to deal with his feelings for Katie and his love for
his dead wife.

Thank you for pointing this out. Some of my friends on LinkedIn and others in a Facebook group do this kind of thing, and I'm appalled at the quality of stuff they "like" just so they can rack up points. REAL reviews, even those from friends and relatives, are meaningful when they come from the heart and not motivated by the scratch-my-back mentality. I'm proud and grateful for the few Amazon reviews my books have, as I know they are sincere.

I've liked others' books on amazon w/o reading them, but only because the blurb was really good. I wouldn't leave a review w/o reading the book first, but the like says I noticed the product and was impressed with it. A few friends I have tagged their books w/o buying them, but I only picked tags I knew were correct and that I would buy the book at a later date.

message 91: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Robinson (betsy_robinson) Hi, gang. I’m simultaneously excited and daunted by how many of us are self-publishing. Are any of us buying? I’m not because I get all my books from the library. Lean times . . .

But I might as well belly-flop in here.

I’ve self-published a funny (others have said so—comments and excerpts are on the link page) little book . Here’s the poop:

At the age of sixty, editor and writer Betsy Robinson craved an elder to advise her about her unemployment, her fears, and her shame. Who better to call on than her dead mother . . . who had once before made her spirit presence known. In her new book, Conversations with Mom: An Aging Baby Boomer, in Need of an Elder, Writes to Her Dead Mother , Robinson and her dead mother continue the writing partnership and collaboration that forged their unique friendship.

I'm calling it an epistolary work of fiction. Here's me interviewing myself about that:

Q: So what is an “epistolary work of fiction”? Did you make that up?

One of my favorite books was the epistolary work Letters to a Young Poet by Rainier Maria Rilke which I carried with me like a talisman when I was in my twenties. I gave it away sometimes, too, and kept buying new copies. My present copy fell out my window one night and lay in the snow in my downstairs neighbor’s backyard. It is in such bad shape I could never give it away, so I still have it.

Another of my favorite books is the Bhagavad Gita, a dialog between reluctant warrior Arjuna and the god Krishna, who explains why Arjuna should get his chariot moving and, for goodness sake, fight.

Conversations with Mom is nothing like Letters to a Young Poet or the Bhagavad Gita. Except if you imagine Rilke/Krishna as a wild, terrified, beautiful woman who came of age in the forties only to become a drunk and then a sober, somewhat crazy lioness in the seventies, who joined forces with a poet/Arjuna who happened to be her daughter (moi), a wild, terrified, uniquely attractive young woman who came of age in the seventies, worked at a lot of jobs, then got laid off in the Great Recession, and at the age of sixty, wondered how the hell she was going to exist for the rest of her hopefully long life.

Q: Who’d you write this book for and why would people like it?

Conversations with Mom offers some wisdom, I hope—to people of every age, but particularly to those of us who expect that we should be mentors or crones or at least grown-ups by the time we are on the cusp of being really old. It also chronicles the rather unique and funny relationship I had with my mother as well as my fun dysfunctional family history. So in that way, it’s a quasi-fictional-epistolary memoir. (Say that ten times fast.)

Michele Shriver | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm glad this discussion group is here. I've just released my first novel,
After Ten.

Description:

Four women, once best friends, have not spoken to each other in ten years. A drunken, decade old promise and a class reunion will bring them together again.
For Jordan, her lofty dreams now a distant memory and her life at a crossroads, a reunion with her one-time friends offers a chance to make amends and start anew, but only if she can avoid falling back into self-destructive habits.
After years of struggling with her identity, Sarah has found personal and professional contentment. Will she finally have the courage to reveal the secret she hid from her friends?
Beth thought she was on the verge of having at all, but after a personal crisis now risks losing it all. In order to face her future, she must first find a way to face the past.
Tracey is still searching for happiness and approval. Will she find what she is looking for at the reunion, or leave stronger because she doesn't?
A story of forgiveness, acceptance, the bonds of friendship and the age old question of whether you can go home again.

I am currently working on a spin-off of the book that I hope to release next year.

Jamesibiza | 1 comments Hi, I'm new to the group, but would like to recommend my book, Noho Noho by James Davis for anyone interested in 1930s era crime fiction. Set in London's West End, Noho tells the story of disgraced war hero Nick Valentine's race to find the killer of a murdered nightclub chorus girl. Pitted against foreign spies, underworld gangsters and a rogue British intelligence agent, Nick soon discovers who killed her may be less important than why.
Thanks in advance and I hope you enjoy it.
James

Jennie Marsland | 2 comments My September indie release, Shattered, is based on a real historical event that happened in December, 1917 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At the time, Halifax was handling more shipping than New York, due to WW1. A tragic accident resulted, changing the face of the city forever. Here's the cover blurb:

Liam Cochrane no longer belongs. He lost his youth and his brother on the battlefields of Europe. Now he’s home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, trying to dull his pain with liquor and the occasional willing woman. He’s become a stranger in the North End neighbourhood where he grew up.

Alice O’Neill has never belonged. Able to read music, but not words, she dreams of teaching piano – and of Liam, who has held her heart for years and never known. But Liam has shadowy ties in England that he’s revealed to no one, and in that fall of 1917, Halifax is on a collision course with fate. On December 6, a horrific accident of war will devastate the city’s North End. What will be left for Liam and Alice when their world is shattered?

Shattered is a blend of historical fiction and historical romance. Reviews have been gratifying. If you like a realistic historical with strong romantic elements, you'll enjoy it.

Ey (eywade) | 6 comments Hi, I've been lurking for a bit, thought I would introduce myself. My name is Ey Wade and I am the author of a few novels in various genre. (View http://amzn.to/wade-inbooks ) D.N.A. -Nothing Would Ever be the Same by Ey Wade
Is my YA novel. So far it is getting great reviews.
Debney Nichole Armstrong thought she knew everything about her family. She knew her dad worked hard at everything, except building a relationship with his family. She knew her younger brothers were typical little kids, and she knew her mother, for some unknown reason, disliked her first born and only daughter.

On the night before a planned family vacation, Debney is inexplicably excluded. After a bitter argument with her mother at being barred from family vacations, especially one so close to her eighteenth birthday, Debney arranges a romantic dinner with her long time crush. During the chaos of a romantic dinner turned teen party, she learns of the death of her family. Yes, sometimes relationships in families end tragically. People leave; parents die, and lives change. But does it all have to bring out the skeletons in the closet?

What she really needed to know was did her mother contribute to the ‘accident’? Who is the man repeatedly mentioned in her mother’s journals? Where were the bodies of her ten year old twin brothers, and who is the father of the child she now carries? No matter what the answers are, Debney knows, nothing will ever be the same.
Thanks for letting me share.

Scott Bury (scottbury) | 16 comments I have two books (short stories, really) available here on goodreads, as well as through Amazon, iBooks, Smashwords and so on.
My author page is
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I will be publishing a full-length novel next week. It's a genre-busting fantasy for adults (not pre-teens) called The Bones of the Earth, and it breaks all the rules.

I look forward to lots of discussions!

Alex Metcalf | 2 comments Hello all,
Been dancing around goodreads for a while and, mysteriously, never stumbled on this forum until this morning.
What a great resource.
My newest book is Where The Sun Don't Shine, a mystery set in Venice Beach, CA.
As the copy reads:
A missing girl.
A lost father.
Murder. Mayhem. Tattoos.
Just another day in Venice Beach...
Where The Sun Don't Shine by Alex Metcalf
Thanks. I look forward to participating.

Anthony Fox | 3 comments I've been writing a serial fantasy/comedy and publishing it on Google+ for the last month. I'm also maintaining the complete mss. on a Google Doc here http://goo.gl/zD0ST

I'm trying to prove that a first time author is better off giving their novel away than selling it for cheap. I'm giving it away as I'm writing it, and when I'm done I'm going to give a thousand copies away (at least).
