Roya (eeiko) Okay, this is going to be really vague, sorry. The title may have had the words blue and gate. It's about a ghost girl and boy who are still wandering around....this house and the woods around it? I remember a description of the girl where she came out of the water and she was dirty and her hair was tangled with dirt and twigs and leaves. I could never figure out if they were really dead or not because they spoke of an angry mother coming back who they had to hide from. Then there's a part where the girl cleans up because they decide to....go steal something from the mother's room or go for a walk? At any rate she finally decided to clean up after many years. I think their real parents may have died. It was confusing because, again, I couldn't tell who was dead. I never got to finish the book because a substitute teacher was reading it to us. I just remember I was really enjoying what she was reading.

Roya (eeiko) No, it's about a brother and sister who are in the woods or their old house.

message 5: by Roya (new)

Roya (eeiko) I was around 12 or 13.

Roya (eeiko) Lol, sorry. I'm 17.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Not too long ago another poster asked about a book involving ghost children. Give me a minute and I'll see if I can find it.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Okay - the earlier poster was looking for The Mystery at Kickingbird Lake, which is the start of a series. So it could maybe be a different one.

Roya (eeiko) It could be it, but the book I remember seemed more serious. I also think the cover was a shiny dark blue, with hardly anything on it.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Covers frequently change as different editions are published so I'd never go just by cover.

Check it out, Eeiko, and return and let us know. Thanks.

Phil | 196 comments The one thing that shot into my mind was "Lost Boy Lost Girl" by Peter Straub - haven't read it, though, and I don't think a teacher would read an adult author like Straub to kids that young. Then again, what Eeiko described sounds pretty mature, though. Anyone read this?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 218 comments Possibly The Old Willis Place, The Old Willis Place by Mary Downing Hahn , by Mary Downing Hahn.

message 14: by Roya (new)

Roya (eeiko) The Old Willis Place sounds pretty close.

message 15: by Roya (new)

Roya (eeiko) The Old Willis Place is probably it. There are woods and a pond and the children are afraid of a lady, like I remembered. Yep. I'll mark this as solved. Thanks!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 218 comments You're welcome! It sounded like a Mary Downing Hahn kind of book. :)
