Viviana D. Otero Truman Capote gives a great journalistic account of the horrific murders that two men carried out to rob a family of a little more than forty dollars. The murders shook a small town in Kansas, but the evil men, eventually were brought to justice and hence were put to death by hanging. It makes the reader shake with all sorts of emotions to learn about these two cold-blooded killers. A must read for everyone!

Elaine Yea, I thought the book well written and researched. Crime is not my cup of tea at all, but even I found the book fascinating. How you get to know the killers as well and their backgrounds, that I found personally fascinating.

Chris This is considered Capote's masterpiece and with good reason. Extremely readable, detailed and compassionate-not a word one usually associates with murderers-I think it is less of a "crime" read and more of a study into the hearts and minds of the criminals. Capote's horror as well as his empathy come through in ever paragraph. Definitely a must read.

Zulfiya It is his masterpiece, but a small tribute should be paid to a certain lady, who helped him with his research in the very beginning. As soon as she completed her book 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' Harper Lee together with Capote went to Holcomb, Kansas, to assist him in researching an article, or what they thought would be an article. Well, it turned out into Capote's biggest book.

Susan (aka Just My Op) Hmmm, I didn't know that, Zulfiya. Makes sense, though. I knew they had been friends. In Cold Blood: A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences is excellent, and To Kill a Mockingbird has been one of my all-time favorites for decades.

Cindy Capote invented the true crime genre with this masterpiece. I agree that it is brilliant and I encourage everyone to read it.

Cindy Oh, and either before or after reading it (makes no difference) watch the movie Capote with Philip Seymour Hoffman. Fantastic acting!

Richard forget the hoffman movie, watch the far far superior Infamous - it tells the story in a much better way and the cast are uniformly excellent

Cynthia To each his own but I gotta disagree with Sandyboy. IMBd, Rotten Tomatoes and their audiences side with me. And don't forget Hoffman won the Oscar. He was brilliant. Capote grossed over $28 million and Infamous just over $1 million.

Yours it's an excellent account of the book, Chris. Thank you.

Susan Jo Grassi When this book came out, I was reading it at the office on my lunch hour when one of my co-workers came over, picked the book up, glanced at a few pages in the back, screamed, went white, burst into tears, dropped the book and ran to the lounge. We were all flabbergasted. As it turns out, in the back of the book Capote had listed and described several similar murders, one of which was this young woman's grandmother. It really put the book into perspective.

Joanne I read it years ago, it gave me nightmares.

Lisa Did a book report on this in high school, so it's been many years since I read it. Very intense

Kristen A masterful approach to true crime. Capote is one of my favorites.

Joanne I think Capote was a great writer. Not stuck in one genre either. Every Christmas, I read or watch "A Christmas Memory" and I cry every time. I bought "Sook's Cookbook" because of that story, and my grandkids and I bake the sugar cookies. I like literature to have a direct impact on my life.

Carolyn Ann I just finished reading this book and found it to be an excellent read. Before reading it I read Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love the way Capote could write two very different feeling stories that have an impact on the way a person may view the world around them.

Mary Ann A very strong sense of place and to think my two favorite books of all time, In Cold Blood and To Kill A Mockingbird were written by two childhood friends.
