Chapter 2
The two men each slept well that night. The next morning, Jerry started brewing a pot of coffee and made some cinnamon rolls. He looked out the window over his sink and saw a huge insect-like creature inspecting the Martian landscape. Jerry ran to Alexander’s room and roused him from sleep.
“Hey, Alexander!” Jerry exclaimed, “There is something outside.”
“Is it one of the aliens I was talking about last night?”
“Well that’s what I’m trying to ask you. Come and see for yourself.” The two men went into the kitchen. Alexander went very white and started to tremble.
“Yes! There it is,” he choked after an awkward silence. They each had some cinnamon rolls after they watched it leave. Alexander didn’t eat very many because he was terrified out of his appetite. He plopped onto the couch and turned on the T.V. static obscured the screen and no sound came out of the stereo. Alexander fainted.
Jerry pulled some guns out of his closet to get ready for any defense. He owned a few military pistols, a few fully automatic assault rifles to prepare for defense. He put three guns aside for Alexander when he comes back to his senses. Jerry turns off the T.V. and waits on the couch for Alexander.
After ten minutes, Alexander gets up and asks if he missed anything yet. Of course, he did not. Alexander wanted to miss as much as possible, but that’s not going to happen. Jerry started to think that Alexander’s behavior was becoming absolutely absurd. Suddenly there was a bright flash. The men flinched and ran to the window. A huge blimp came toward the planet. There was a huge cannon on top. The ship looked pretty stupid, but it looked powerful. The ship flashed again. Jerry noticed that the flash was the cannon. It fired huge balls of flaming hot gas. The guns that the people had didn’t need any gunpowder or bullets or anything anymore. The guns created a sort of light that flashed and killed people in the blink of an eye.
The flash sends light waves that go through your eye and damage the brain. It could even possibly kill you. The light though only has a little range to do damage. If they were within five miles, it would have killed them. The UFO looked like it was pretty close because of its monstrous size. It was actually about a hundred miles away from that part of the city. It did major damage to the population it hit though. The cannon blasted a few buildings off the face of Mars. They really did fly off of mars. It was a very strange sight to see. The buildings were in tact but flew away like little robins alighted on a tree all happy and chirpy until an obnoxious kid started throwing baseballs at them.
Amazingly enough, the military prepared for the attack and struck a high-powered laser through the ship. The ship imploded. As the two men watched from Jerry’s house, the ship looked like it shriveled up like the witch from the Wizard of Oz and suddenly disappeared. If they were about ten miles closer, it would have looked like a rock had fallen out of the sky. The two guys’ gave each other dumbfounded looks.
“I wonder how the military knew the attack was coming,” Alexander muttered as he saw the ship disappear. “I thought I was the only survivor on the ship and I have just informed you.”
“Well,” Jerry started his answer, “as soon as you informed me, you fell faint and I radioed the military general for this planet. It took all night to get the giant laser ready, but they did it. The ship didn’t have any mirrors or deflectors on it, but it does have a defensive shield. The shield is incapable of stopping light. If it had reflectors on it though, we’d be in kind of a dilemma. I wonder about that bright flash though. I wonder if it meant anything.”
Alexander just sat down listening to all this without a word. He sat in silence just pondering on the events that have taken place. He was wondering if there were more ships like that out there and an invasion would overcome Mars. They would be done for if more ships attack. If they send one at a time it might not be quite as bad, but if they send more, they would definitely be in trouble.
Jerry tried to turn on the T.V. It was out. He tried a radio, then the lights. The power was out completely. He hoped the military would make an action plan to build ships that could stand up to the one that had just come. He was kind of worried about that since the power went out. Jerry decided he would check out his own personal ship. It worked. The main power of the city didn’t, but the engine and battery powered gadgets did work.
“Alexander,” he started, “we are going to inform the other city on the far side of the planet. They will radio earth to build military defensive ships to fend off any more aliens. We have military construction on both planets, so if they both work on ships, the faster we can defend. Lets go.”
The two brought all the supplies they needed and headed to the far side of the planet. In the little short-distance ship Jerry had, they arrived at the city of Atlantis. Jerry saw the Martian Space Force station just dead in the heart of the city. Alexander, having never been to Atlantis, saw the buildings were quite different. They were boxes instead of domes. They were organized the same way though. There was a military base in the center (which is the most famous), the Northeast, the Northwest, the Southeast, and the Southwest corners of the city. They Jerry’s personal landing pad, for he was in the Martian Space Force.
“How come you have your own landing pad?” asked Alexander. “Are you an officer?”
“I am an officer,” Jerry replied frankly. “I am a Commodore of the Space Force.”
“Wow! I wish you’d have told me sooner. That would have been nice to know. I would have had better respect for you.” Jerry smiled and exited the ship.
When Jerry exited the ship, another officer greeted him. The two men saluted each other and had a little chat.
“I brought a survivor from the Earth star ship E-8164.” Jerry started, “He’s very paranoid about an incident that has happened to his ship and in Eldorado. Admiral Johnston, an Unidentified Flying Object has attacked Eldorado. The power is out and we can’t properly build the space ships we need. We need to contact the base on Earth to help build so we can get more battleships sooner.”
“Now first of all, tell me the full story of what has happened so I know exactly what my men have to build.” The Admiral replied, “I mainly need to know the details of what the ship was destroyed by and what its defenses are.”
“Of course Sir Johnston.” Jerry told the full account of the story. During the story Alexander finally came off board. “This is my new friend Alexander McParson.”
“Hello there!” Alexander was giddy with excitement for saluting an admiral. Alexander had some mental problems due to the attack on his ship so he was kind of Naïve and his memory isn’t as good anymore for he has been to Mars several times in the past and doesn’t remember it, and he was on a military ship even though he says it’s a merchant ship. Jerry did recognize the ship name as a military ship though. E ships and M ships are the two military ships for each planet. E for Earth, M for Mars. Simple enough. Merchant ships are EM and MM. Each ship has it’s own number as well as the letters.
Alexander and the Admiral shook hands. The three men went inside where Jerry finished his tale. Admiral Johnston brewed the men cups of coffee as they discussed the situation. Admiral Johnston was indeed impressed with this tale.
“Magnificent! I’ve never heard anything like that before.” The Admiral made quick actions to get ships constructed. In moments both planets started constructing. In a few days a ship on each planet was complete. In a month, about a total of fifteen ships were finished.
The men stayed at the base until they heard from Eldorado that power was back. They thanked the Admiral and headed back home.
Jerry was the only man in Eldorado with his own personal ship. He was the only officer who lived in Eldorado. The officers gave commands from Atlantis to their men in Eldorado. Eldorado was where the enlisted men and normal citizens live. Atlantis is where the officers and upper class citizens live.
“So where did the names Atlantis and Eldorado come from?” Alexander asked Jerry.
“Well,” Jerry replied, “Atlantis and Eldorado are lost cities on Earth that are somewhere in the oceans. No one can find them so they decided that they’d go to Mars where they’d be easier to find.”
“How’d they get lost?”
“No one knows. They just disappeared. But it’s okay. They’re on this planet now so we don’t need to worry about it anymore.”
“Yeah, I guess your right.” Jerry turned his head away toward the window and smiled.

Chapter 3
They headed to a great hotel in the downtown of Atlantis. The building was about one hundred fifty stories tall. It had a smooth, metallic surface that didn’t have a scratch at all. It had circle windows and the building itself was round. It came up to a point, and at the pinnacle there sat a tall, thin tower. They entered the building and were greeted with a nice white light that was refreshing to the eye. The lobby had a round desk where the clerk greeted the two men. There were a couple little houseplants on the desk.
“Do you have a reservation?” asked the lady at the desk.
“We don’t, but we’d like a room for two,” Jerry informed.
“All right. Your number is 1032 on the one hundredth floor.”
The two went up the elevator after a good long wait. They reached their comforting room where the sunlight welcomed them through their window. There was a fern in the corner of the room by the window and a padded chair in the other corner. There were two beds neatly furnished, and a desk made of oak and stained in a dark red color. There was a flat LED T.V. Hung on the wall and a dresser under that. The men unloaded their luggage and put them neatly in the dressers and closets.
“How long are we going to be here?” asked Alexander.
“Probably a month. I have much to do here. We have to stay here until we have the weapons to destroy those aliens. We have sent a few little spies to search out the Alien Ship. I am in charge of the main ship building project as soon as we hear from the spies.”
“How do the spies go unseen?”
“We have put cloaking devices on the ships. They’re small enough that you wouldn’t really see them out of the cockpit or anything. They are about the size of escape pods, maybe a little bigger. They have more computer technology too. They don’t fall out of a ship; they can fly around instead. They have a cockpit and even defense blasters.
“Another purpose,” he continued, “for their sight-seeing is that they have to find out how many of these alien ships there are out there. We don’t want to have to take out one and lose our ships because we’re outnumbered. We want to get rid of them all and invade their planet.”
Alexander sat in thought for a moment. “So,” he started, “How are we going to get this done in a month?”
“Well, we might not get it done in a month, but I have many men who will be working on this project, so we should get it done soon enough. I already have a few crews inventing weapons without needing electricity or old gunpowder. We want something that’ll travel through space. The best we have come with is powerful light. Stronger than a laser it is. It can pierce steel. With the technology that they have, they’re probably smart enough to use mirrors so that’s the downside. We don’t want to destroy our own ships. We need to think everything out before any decisions are made. We can’t afford to lose many lives. If we can repel them for the time being, it would give us more time to decide what is needed to destroy them.”
After everything was put away, they went out into the city. The red sky made tall skyscrapers look very ominous. It was a very bleak day to go out look around the city. They walked around without much chat. Everywhere they went it seemed like they were going to be attacked by a mob or much worse– the aliens. They both were armed with a berretta pistol in a holster on their right hips. The only other defense mechanism they had was Jerry’s taser on his left hip.
A few hours later they came to a residential area. It was full of cubical buildings. They wandered in there for a while because it felt a little safer without the menacing buildings overlooking them. It got dark after thirty more minutes. They didn’t feel comfortable anymore so they went to a house and asked for a phone. They called a taxi to pick them up. The taxis aren’t like today’s taxis. All the vehicles hovered. These ones though were different. These didn’t hover but drove on the taxi road. The vehicles were more like busses though rather than just cars with a taxi sign on them.
They got in the taxi and headed back to the hotel. They went up the elevator and entered their rooms. “I did not like that at all,” Jerry finally said. “Tomorrow let’s explore in the morning and maybe drive around.”
“I agree,” Alexander replied. “That was very nerve-racking. I almost don’t want to go out tomorrow. I would like to relax and read in the room.”
They both went to bed. Alexander had terrible dreams of the aliens attacking. It seemed so real to him he nearly went mad when he woke. Jerry woke up at the racket Alexander made and asked him what was wrong. Alexander told him the dreams. Jerry assured him they weren’t real and that it was safe to go back to sleep. They both slept in late. It was about lunchtime when they awoke. They of course had lunch. They decided to go bowling that day. They were gone for a few hours. Then Jerry decided they better see how the progress on the ships was.
Jerry flew up to Admiral Johnston’s headquarters. Alexander went back to the hotel and read or whatever he wanted to do. He liked the old fashioned books. He always liked reading the classic printed books. He did have an electronic book like our Kindle or Nook today, but it was far better. He didn’t use it much though. His favorite genre was science fiction. He always thought about what science fiction was like in the 1900s and 2000s. He wondered if it was the same as in the 3400s or not. He didn’t have any old books translated into their current language. He waited in there until Jerry got back.
Jerry arrived at the Admiral’s headquarters. Johnston came out to greet him. “Come inside,” he said. “I’ve been expecting you to arrive soon to see the progress.”
“How’s it going?” Jerry asked.
“It’s not going as great as it should. Many new people are being trained; which is good because we need so many men. We only have five star ships and 3,000 LIT fighters. Those were the main ships you wanted correct?”
“Yes sir.” Jerry had many a thought on his mind as the Admiral listed some more numbers of ships built. Finally at the end he said “Thank you. I better go soon. I have much to think about and it has made me weary. I must rest.”
“Good bye my old friend. Rest well. I assure you that as soon as the newbies work more in the next two days, we’ll have about six times the current amount.”
“Thank you. I’ll see you soon.” With that Jerry left and headed back to the motel.
“Hello,” Alexander had a nice greeting for him. There wasn’t just a hello, but a new portable computer for him sitting on the desk.
“You didn’t actually buy that for me did you?” Jerry was shocked. That was the new updated computer that cost about one thousand dollars (they still used dollars and cents in that day).
“Yeah, I have so much money and so little to buy. I don’t have my own house or hover bew (hover cars named after the inventor Mr. Bew). I don’t have bills to pay or anything to pay. The Admiral is compensating us by paying for this room until the work is done.”
“Speaking of the work, we’re kind of behind. We should be about three times farther by now. We only have five star ships.”
“I’m sorry,” Alexander didn’t really know what else to say.
The two men stayed for about another month in the hotel room. Every two days Jerry checked progress with the ships. They did indeed multiply by six two days after the first check. They continued to make more and more ships. They had about ten working fields.
Finally about the end of the month the work was complete.
“We can now defend ourselves from the aliens unless they’ve upgraded many weapons and now have many defense mechanisms. That would be a great backset but we would still be able to hold them off and upgrade technology.”
“You don’t expect me to fight though do you?”
“Well, I suppose not but it would be good for you, and even me believe it or not. Every man counts.”
Alexander thought for a minute. “All right. I guess I would rather not watch from the sidelines. If I die it will be for a cause.”

Chapter 4
The next morning they took a stroll along the main streets of Atlantis. They went into a restaurant to have a warm, tasty, breakfast. They went out into the city again to find some recreational center to play pool or bowling. The city was full of life that day. Hover Bews were flying overhead and cars were driving on the streets. The red sky seemed brighter than the day before when there was hardly any life on in the city. The two paced down the street until they found the great recreational center.
“Finally here,” Jerry said. The two walked in to a great open room with the front desk in, of course, the front. It was a great round semicircle with about five people seated comfortably behind it. They paid admission and walked to the center of the facility. The ceiling was domed and had a huge glass roof that let in natural warm light. That was the only light in the room until about 8:00 p.m. After 8:00, they usually turned on the lights. If it were dark because of a storm or something, then the lights would come on.
The two men went to the bowling alleys. They bowled a few games. After about two hours they had lunch and played a bit of pool. At about 4:00, they played racquetball. When they finished that, they had dinner. In the middle of supper, the sky became dark. The employees turned the lights on. About thirty minutes later they flashed several times and went out.
“What is going on?” Jerry muttered. The sky lit up, but it was not sunlight. There was a great murmur of people discussing what’s happening. There was a great flash in the sky roof and it became dark again. Everyone gasped. A great explosion sounded outside. Everyone was silent. Nobody said a word. They all froze in terror.
Jerry and Alexander got up and hurried outside. Great flames blanketed the horizon. The two men looked up and saw the hideous ships heading right for Mars. There were fifty of them lined perfectly and evenly spaced headed right for Atlantis.
They all fired at the great city. The missiles hit scattered through the city. They did great damage and about ten of the missiles caught the whole city aflame. The two men could do nothing but stand there and watch hopelessly. They watched the ships. They hovered over the city and stayed in place for about an hour or so. They finally opened hatches at the bottom of the ships and released many pods. They landed in a great circle around the city. Great streams of light advanced to the center of the city. There were fifty light beams that all met in the core of the city. The heart of the city exploded and expanded outward. The two men took cover in an open manhole nearby. They closed the hatch shut so the heat wouldn’t ignite the tunnels underground. The whole planet had oxygen in every little nook and cranny but it could easily heat them up like an oven for sure, but they didn’t know that the heat could have instantly incinerated them if they were in an oxygenated area.
They stayed the sewage for the rest of the night. They heard the aliens overhead all the next day as well. Finally the noise stopped. They got out their emergency oxygen supply (made for instances as this) and stepped out. There were skeletons everywhere and the buildings were nothing but piles of ashes. You would have thought that the dust on the planet was just black at that part. That was what it was, just black dust. You would have never known a great city was there.
“Maybe we should have let some of the people nearby come in,” Alexander said after a long glance at the barren land.
“I would have but the huge fire ball was right there. I didn’t have time to let anyone in or we would have just burned.” The two people looked around for a long while and finally decided to try to radio Admiral Johnston. “Admiral, do you copy?”
“I hear you Captain,” the Admirals voice replied. A look of relief appeared on Jerry’s face.
“Where are you?” Jerry asked.
“I’m on Earth finishing the project. I received the news almost right after it happened. We lost about ten corps of the army and ten space force fleets. We have even more on earth so we can still engage and put up a good fight. We’ll continue creating forces.”
“Thank you,” Jerry said distressed at the news of how many lost.
“I’m glad you’re alive. How’s Alexander?”
“Alive. We’re both alive and unhurt.”
“Good. I’ll send a ship for you so stay hidden. They have many speeders to watch for survivors. I’ll radio you when the ship arrives. DON’T leave your hiding spot at any cost.”
“Okay,” Jerry replied. “We hid in the sewer and that seems to be a great place to stay, so stay we will.”
“Good spot. See you in a week or so.”
Thankfully there were only 4 chapters. I thought there were five! That was annoying. I'll have to start writing shorter stories. :)

No one in my small, ocean side hometown of Rayport would ever believe the truth about how my little brother, Hunter died. When they hear my story, some people say I am a crazy child who needs to be locked away, others say I am simply imaginative, but I’m not. I swear it’s the truth. The only people who believe me are best friend, McKenzi and her identical twin sister, McKayla because they had been by my side the whole journey. Everyone else in Rayport thinks that my brother died in a car crash. But that’s not the real story.
I remember the day it all began, Hunter’s seventh birthday. My sister, Skipper, mom, dad, and I were crowded around our small kitchen table as my brother opened his final birthday present. It was a medium-sized box and inside, was a brass key. it was truly the queerest present any of us had ever received, and we couldn't help but wonder, "why?"
that night, i lay in bed, pondering as my parents wished Hunter a final happy birthday and said goodnight. that was the last i ever heard my mother's sweet, melodic voice.
The next morning when i woke up, they were gone. Mom, dad, even Skipper were nowhere to be found. i ran through the house, calling their names and each time, i got the same response: silence. at one point in the morning, i turned around, and standing in the hall behind me was Hunter, wide-eyed and clearly terrified.
"Where are they?" he whimpered.
"I don't know," I responded. i decided that we should continue with our regular lives, so i prepared some breakfast. while we ate, i tried to be strong for Hunter's sake, but deep down, i wanted to cry just as much as i could tell he wanted to.
Later, as i was reading book in the living room, Hunter approached me.
"Can i ask you something?" he asked.
"yes," i simply replied. he reached into his pocket and produced the strange key he had received yesterday.
"What so you think it's for?" he queried. i carefully examined it. it looked vaguely familiar, as if i had seen it's key hole before. i thought for a moment, back to all the keys i had ever seen. i remembered cleaning out the attic with my mom and dad a couple years ago and happening across a couple chests with locks. if we could find them, that would be as good a place as any to start.
"I'm not sure," I said, "but i think i know a place where we could find out."
It's amazing how much dust can collect in one place if left unattended for one measly year. It was hard to see when we first entered the attic due to all the dust clouding our vision.
"where do we start?" Hunter asked cautiously. I thought for a moment, remembering back twelve months ago when my mom and i had last been in here. i remembered one chest in the far right corner, and another by the window. there was one standing atop a pile of boxes, and another had been buried under a pile of old clothes and shoes. i directed my brother towards the window and told him to go look over there. he quickly obeyed. i headed for the teaming mountain of ancient baby clothes and bunny slippers. i immediately started digging. just as i uncovered the wooden chest, Hunter called from over by the window "Tate!!! i found a box with a lock!!!" i abandoned mine and stepped over piles of rubbish to get to my brother.
"test it!!! see if this is the right box!!!" Hunter yelled with excitement. i carefully inserted the key and tried to turn it. it didn't work.
"i found one too," i said as i led him to my discovery. however, upon digging through the pile again, we found that the chest was missing. i was sure i had seen it.
"go look in the far right corner," i said. again, Hunter obeyed. i went and searched for the pile of boxes. when i found the chest atop it, i tested the lock. it did not work.
"i found one!!!" Hunter called yet again. that one didn't work either. Hunter looked absolutely crestfallen. i looked around and saw the chest that had disappeared earlier. it was peeking out from underneath my old bedspread. i made a mad dash for it, but tripped on a box halfway there. once in had gotten back up and dusted my self off, Hunter spoke again:
"It's gone!!!" he screeched.
"What's gone?" I inquired.
"That chest you were running towards! when you tripped it just disappeared!"
"don't be silly" I retorted, "how can a wooden chest just disappear on it's own?" but when i turned around, the box was indeed missing. "Fan out!!!" i screamed, "chase down that chest!!!" we chased and chased and chased. finally, after about ten minutes, we cornered it. i held it down while hunter inserted the key. much to our surprise, the lock clicked upon turning the key. the chest stopped resisting and once again became inanimate. a heaved the lid open. inside,it appeared to be a bottomless pit; an abyss of some sort.
"what do you think's down there?" Hunter asked.
"there's only one way to find out." i responded solemnly. with that. i took his hand in mine, and together we leaped into the endless chest.

Title: Flying
Genre: Short Story
Description: random something. :)
I SIT, AND WAIT, EXCITEMENT FLOODING THROUGH ME at the prospect of what is about to happen...Then a moment later, great buffets of wind are creating large clouds of dust below me. I whoop as giant wings flap beneath me, raising me up into the sky. I throw my head back and feel the wind in my face. I silently urge the dragon below me to go faster as we ascend to where I never thought I’d be. We keep going. I can feel the strong muscles pumping beneath me as we fly higher and higher and as the ground shrinks continually beneath us. For minutes we continue speeding upwards, almost vertically. I am holding tightly onto the spikes in front of where I am sitting. The air slowly cools as we continue to ascend...Then we level out. I sigh and smile, throwing my hands into the air. I glance warily around the dragons head to see the ground thousands of feet below me. We gently spin, making me dizzy as the ground below and the sky above twist. This, THIS, is where I belong--I could live here forever: up high, among the clouds. Then it comes, the thing I've been waiting for: the dive. Slowly, the dragon's nose dips, and before I know it, the feeling of weightlessness takes hold of me. The dragon pulls its wings close to it's body. The ground below us draws closer and closer. I lean forward, and stand up slightly. Exhilaration floods through me. I never want to leave, I never want to get off. We speed down, descending faster than we ascended. Gravity is pulling us closer and closer to the earth. Then, I hear constant beeping in my ear. Reluctantly, I tear my eyes away from the ground hundreds of feet beneath me, still zooming closer. And I look around in search of the location of the beeping...
I wake up, only to realize it was a dream and the alarm is sounding next to my head. With a wistful sigh, I turn it off, knowing that I can never fly on a dragon; Knowing that will have to live the same, normal life I always have, and always will; Knowing that the fantasy my head lives in, is something my body can never be apart of, yet I can still look forward to the next time I can steal a few moments to return to it--to continue living in my fantasy world.

Story:
Prologue
They say that the Final Judgment takes place sometime after Armageddon. That may be true. But not in my case. My judgment is today. The Gods will decide my fate, and their judgment will be severe and final. The worse part?
I don’t regret the crime I committed.
Chapter one
Hot, thick tears slid down my face, mingling with the blood and the tears. Unloved. Unwanted. There’s nothing worse than the bitter shame of finding out you’d never had a family, never had anyone that cared about you, even when you thought otherwise. Family doesn’t betray. Family doesn’t condemn you to a life of mortality and suffering, eying you with contempt all the while. One thing I’ve learned the hard way; Immortals scorn their own illegitimate children. My mother was Coventina, Goddess of the sea, my father a sea-faring captain. A pirate, as she fondly remembers him. I suppose it doesn’t matter, though, who my parents were. I never met my father, and my mother never loved me at all. Another thing I’ve learned: They don’t deserve my love. None of them do. They’re nothing but lazy, backstabbing, pampered hypocrites, and my love is the farthest thing they deserve. Nothing I have they deserve; everything I am they have earned. You see, I wasn’t a lazy, spoiled immortal like the rest of the Halflings. I was more than that. I was a fighter, a warrior, a harbinger of death. I’ve fought and I’ve strived to become the perfect assassin, which is exactly what I am. Take away my immortality, will you? Go ahead. I have other weapons at my disposal, weapons I will use against you. I will not rest until you taste the bitter regret of disowning a daughter of Coventina. I will fight the punishment you’ve given me. I will regain my immortality. I know I will, because I am strong. I am unforgiving. I am Calypso, daughter of the sea.

Title: Moving Forward
Genre: Short Story, Romance.
Story by: Collette.
Synopsis: After surviving the attack on her home city, Shanice comes to a conclusion that will leave her and her friend Joey, broken-hearted.
“You are very lucky, you know that right?”
I jumped, his voice startling me and going through me like a ghost.
“I don’t see how.” I replied, once I gained back my composure.
He came around to stand in front of me so I was forced to stare at him while he spoke. He was so beautiful, and he always made me feel better whether it be through words, looks or touch. I really did love him.
“You’re alive; you can go on with your life now, no more hunting down the bad guys because the bad guys are gone.” He looked so hopeful, wishing I would admit that I could live a normal life, leap into his arms and kiss away the pain. I wished I could do that too, but that was all it was, a wish.
“The bad guys are never gone.” I crouched down, placing the single white lily upon the grass mound where my best friend’s body lay. She was an empty shell now, her spirit had moved on. I had to blink away the tears.
“No, they aren’t, but they are no longer you problem Shanice,” He wrapped his arms around my waist, holding me close and smiling down at me. “The only problem you have now is deciding if you want to give us a shot, because I love you, I want to be with you. Forever.”
I looked up at him, the sun hitting the lighter parts of his blonde hair, his green eyes beseeching me for an answer I could never give.
For here, in amongst this grave yard, the bodies of my friends and families lay beneath the dirt, I knew I couldn’t be with him, we had both survived the attack on our city, we both live to tell the tale of our government trying to kill our population, but we both won’t be together when the questions are asked, I will be gone and Joey will remain here, I know this because I know him, there is no possible way he will leave, not with the prospect that his family may still be alive amid the rubble, but I had no such luxury, the only thing this city held for me was pain, pain and death. I could no longer stay here, I had to move on with my life and to do that I had to let Joey go, because with him, I would never leave, I would be a prisoner here and I couldn’t live like that.
“No, I don’t...I can’t...” I breathed in, I had lied before and this one would set me free. “I don’t love you.”
Joey dropped his arms from around me, shaking his head, his face expressed in denial.
“You’re l
“You’re lying!” He seethed but I stood calmly, looking at him. “No, you aren’t, but, you must...why?” The last word barely disturbed the air, but I had heard it.
“I don’t feel for you how you feel for me,” I stepped closer to him, my hand on his cheek, my forehead pressed against his. “I can’t love you and I am sorry for that, but one day you will find a girl worthy of your love, she isn’t me.” I kissed him, one final time and let go.
“Where are you going?” He called from behind me.
“Wherever I’m needed,”
I smiled as I walked away, basking in the sunlight. I was free of this place; finally I could go and move on from here. The feeling was s new I giggled.
But I would not forget, the friends of my family, the smiles of my friends and the boy I loved but had to let go because he wouldn’t have the strength to let me go.
No, I would never forget, for who can forget their first love?
Who can forget the one that owns their heart?
Title: My Name
Genre: Poem
Story:
My name is Indian, and it means “waves”.
It is like the forest breeze, calm and uncertain, not knowing which way to go.
It is like a pair of binoculars, shedding a clear perspective on everything.
It is aloof and vague, but still somewhat mature, like a stubborn barn owl during the day, objecting to leave its nest.
It sounds like humming a song, proud and confident, but afraid to become louder than it is.
It looks like a flash of lightning, giving promises that the crackling boom of thunder will soon come after.
It is the tinted window in a stormy gray building, offering answers to those who are already inside.
It is a fox with freedom, thought to be fond of playing and being mischievous, but actually focusing on strategy and wisdom.
It smells like aromatherapy, the diverse fragrances in a subtle combination of elegance.
It is the color scarlet, the fiery passion erupting like complaining lava.
My name is an ambivalent alexandrite of opposites, indefinite of what it should be- a curious pink or a poised teal.
It is the feeling of letting go, knowing that nothing lasts forever.
It is the memory of a lost friend who taught me that life should be dealt with the way it deals with you.
It is like an expert’s bow in an amateur’s hands, unsure about which way to shoot.
It knows that life is full of questions, and sometimes there is no answer.

Chapter 1
A meteor hit the barren landscape of Mars. Jerry decided he’d better take a look at the meteor because he saw its metallic surface flash before it hit. Jerry arrived at the crater seeing that it was no meteor at all. It was an escape pod. Jerry decided he’d better watch it to see who comes out. After about fifteen minutes, the pod opened. A frazzled-dazzled man limped out. He looked about thirty or so years of age. His goatee made him look younger than he was.
“Who are you, and what happened to your ship?” asked Jerry.
“Well,” the man choked, “I was headed to the moon Phobos to help colonize the moon, but on our way there, we were attacked by some creatures with greater technology than us and brought down our ship.”
“What did their ship look like?” Jerry asked.
“Well, It was huge. It looked like a blimp with huge wings and completely round and smooth. It had guns all over it, and it had a huge laser cannon right under the nose of the ship. That weapon sliced our ship in half and I managed to get to an escape pod. A few seconds after I ejected, the rest of the ship exploded. I believe I am the only survivor.” It was a pretty clear description. Jerry could’ve used a little more, but he really didn’t care all that much. He mainly just wanted to know the size.
“How big was it compared to your ship?” Jerry asked.
“It was about ten times the size of ours. Our ship is one of those huge ships that our head commanders would ride. It would be the fleet admirals if we had one. We don’t have a space navy because we didn’t have any enemies in space until now. We doubted the signs of life outside of Earth. We Earthlings wouldn’t fight each other in space though either because it’s just cheaper to fight on Earth.”
Well, as this guy babbled, Jerry readied his speeder so they could get into the colony right away. Jerry thought about where the aliens could be from and whether or not they would attack Earth or Mars. He was kind of nervous about some of the description about the alien ship and that cannon.
“What is your name?” Jerry asked.
“Alexander. Alexander McParson” the poor man stated. Jerry jumped at hearing the name. Strangely, the name was familiar to him. He didn’t know where it was going or where it’s been, but he recognized it.
The speeder was all ready, and they headed for the colony Sparta. Most people remember Sparta from Greek history. This one was full of soldiers, even though there was no one to fight. Jerry knew that there was superstition about alien sightings that looked menacing and threatening. He didn’t tell Alexander just in case. He did get a lot more information about Alexander’s ship and the attacked when driving home.
Jerry got back to the colony and took Alexander to his house. The colony was set up like any ordinary city on earth. It thrived in Valles Marineris (The Grand Canyon of Mars). There were great skyscrapers that more poked and stabbed the sky rather than scrape. Houses were little brush nickel domes that had circular windows on either side of the round door and in the one more in the other three sides (if that’s what you’d call them) of the dome. That’s what the one-person houses looked like. Two people houses look the same with more windows and bigger. The houses are meant for different size families and are in their own separate parts of the city. The single person houses are in the Northwestern side of the city; two people houses are on the Northeastern; three people houses in the west, four in the east and so on and so forth. All the businesses are in the center of the city. The center was huge and could hold very many more businesses. There were still many buildings for sale. The coolest part of the town was that there was a big dome of the Earths atmosphere around the whole city. Everyone had his or her own space suits for outside of the dome.
The two men finally got back to his house after a long maze through the city. His house was something Alexander had never seen before. He felt quite at home in his quaint little home. It opened up into the little living room of which there was a TV, a couch, and a recliner with an end table next to it. Next to the living room was a small kitchen with a window overlooking the beautiful Martian landscape filled with great mountains that you normally wouldn’t see on earth.
“I like your little abode,” Alexander commented after a good look at the two rooms.
“I have a guest room back here,” Jerry said. He lead Alexander down the hallway where they passed a bathroom, Jerry’s bedroom, and Jerry’s office. The guest room was at the end of the hall.
“How will this do for you?” Jerry asked his guest.
“It’s great! I’ll definitely be at home here for as long as I’m allowed to stay.”
“Good, I’m glad you approve. Make yourself at home. I have plenty of food in the kitchen.”
The grateful guest went to the kitchen, grabbed some celery from the fridge as well as a glass of milk. The coolness of the veggies soothed his hungry stomach. He got a little water after he drank the milk because milk doesn’t do a good job quenching thirst.
“Thank you very much!” said the Alexander with absolute cheerfulness. The attack though still lingered in his heart with much fear. He was able to hide his anxiety without much difficulty.
