(Wasilla is Sarah Palin's town, by the way.)

First off, this principal made a seriously stupid fucking decision. I have no idea what she thought was going to happen after the students sang "Bohemian Rhapsody." Did she think boys would make out on the stage, run out of the auditorium holding hands, and drive directly to San Francisco? Moron.

Second...what content wouldn't be ok for high school kids to perform? Where should the line be drawn? Not here, obviously, with Queen, but I'm curious...where's the line?

Is it okay for teenage boys to dress up like Dr. Frankenfurter?
I mean, it is, but I get uncomfortable imagining anyone onstage in a black bikini for their parents and dentists and town sherriffs to see. The school I student taught at last fall had a contest called "Mrs. Roosevelt" in which the popular boys gussied up in drag to mock certain popular girls and then the audience would vote. It was a homecoming tradition that was TRULY and utterly cringe worthy.
I mean, it is okay for people to perform whatever they want on stage. But maybe the principal banned it because she wanted them to do Fiddler on the Roof instead.

The issue is a stupid one, and I commend the students for taking a stand. It's a fun, upbeat song, they like it, so let it go. The adults are reading way to much into this.

Can you imagine the fallout if they'd gone with "Fat Bottomed Girls" or "Tie Your Mother Down"?

At commencement?

I thought the new lyrics in the comments to the article were cute.

Gawed. Why did I even comment? If I were the type I'd go back and delete everything for being a moron. But then people would be all whaaaa? what happened? who deleted?

Jammies Sally, your comment made me chuckle because of its absurdity.

The absurdity of both the parent and the principal in that case, on the other hand, is not at all amusing.
