Alexes | 1 comments Thank you for this wonderful site. I'm pleased to announce that in celebration of passing 1,000 paid downloads, my highly rated science fantasy, Khe, is available for $.99 for a limited time. The price will also shortly drop in the UK, Canada, and Germany. Please take a moment and give it a look. Thank you.

Khe by Alexes Razevich

Immerse Yourself in a New World

Khe loves her simple life on a farming commune, until she discovers that her gift for pushing the crops is a death sentence. Fleeing across the treacherous wilderness, she makes her way to the city of Chimbalay, searching for the orindles who might save her. But Chimbalay has its own dangers. The Powers are there—the secret rulers who have chosen Khe to be the mother of a monstrous new race.

Neither “man in space” SciFi nor classical fantasy, Khe deftly blends elements of both while satisfying those wanting something new.

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 284 comments I beg your indulgence for as I am an ancient being from another era, I’m not sure if this post fits this thread, but here’s a link to several YouTube recordings I’ve read, the Intro & Part One of my newest Time Traveling Epic Fable dealing with the elusive Elastic Limit, which you must, of course, exceed in order to traverse the 4th dimension.

I’ve just posted two more readings which complete Part One, the first 3 Chapters.

They deal with Julius Caesar & begin the day after the famous battle in Spain that won for him the 1st Roman Civil War in 45BC.

Caesar first travels to, and then he has an audience with, the mysterious Oracle of Munda in Southern Iberia, after which his hectic life continues, but who knows for the better?

My first Epic Fable of the Elastic Limit of Time, by the by, is a free download on Smashwords, but here’s the Youtube link I mentioned:

Worth a listen?

John (jaymack) | 10 comments Hello everyone, I'm an indie author with more than a dozen books out, the latest of which is a historical romance called "Rose Of Skibbereen". Here is the link on Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view.... It's the beginning of a family saga about Rose Sullivan, an Irish girl who comes to Philadelphia in 1880 and finds love, heartache, loss, and unexpected joy during the tumultuous years around the turn of the century. It's a great beach read!

I'm an old fashioned reader who prefers a solid book in her hands with real pages and words and the smell of ink.

There is a solution which provides a modicum of traditional comfort, I've found. Kindle is available as an app for a tablet, and the interface allows to flip pages, which makes it a little more believable. It's the closest thing I've seen to an ereader that actually imitates the act of real reading.

Power was out. Flickering strawberry-scented candles lit the room. Nearly a decade had passed since Nathan stood inside someone’s home, since that terrible September morning when he lost everything he ever loved. Outside, a hurricane sounded like it was beating palm trees against the siding. Nathan didn’t know the sickly woman who’d rescued him from the throes of the epic storm. Her name is Miriam and she is about to change everything he ever thought about the meaning of life and what lies beyond. Nathan discovers the strength of love can piece his shattered world back together and heal wounds that cut deep into his soul. With the clock ticking toward the end of Miriam’s life, he never figured the perils he and this dying woman were about to face by knowing the most horrible knowledge one can know.

Uvi Poznansky | 53 comments Twisted will be FREE Friday, June 28.

In this unique collection, Uvi Poznansky brings together diverse tales, laden with shades of mystery and the macabre. There are four of them: I Am What I Am; I, Woman; The Hollow; and The One Who Never Leaves. Here, you will come into a dark, strange world, a hyper-reality where nearly everything is firmly rooted in the familiar—except for some quirky detail that twists the yarn, and takes it for a spin in an unexpected direction.

This is the reality you will see through the eyes of a ghost of a woman, trying to reclaim her name by appealing to the devil; the eyes of a clay figure of a woman, about to be fired in the kiln, longing for her Creator; the eyes of a woman in the midst of a free fall, about to become a ghost; and the eyes of a feline creature with cracked fangs, trying in vain to resign herself, by hook and by crook, to being locked. These characters explore their identity, and challenge their fate.

Inspired by her art, by quotes from literature and the bible, and by the author’s professional career, these tales come from different times and places. Yet all of them share one thing in common: an unusual mind, one that is twisted. So prepare yourself: keep the lights on.

message 616: by Uvi (new)

Uvi Poznansky | 53 comments A Favorite Son will be FREE Friday, June 28.

This story is a present-day twist on the biblical story of Jacob and his mother Rebecca plotting together against the elderly father Isaac, who is lying on his deathbed, in order to get their hands on the inheritance, and on the power in the family. This is no old fairy tale. Its power is here and now, in each one of us.

Listening to Yankle telling his take on events, we understand the bitter rivalry between him and his brother. We become intimately engaged with every detail of the plot, and every shade of emotion in these flawed, yet fascinating characters. He yearns to become his father's favorite son, seeing only one way open to him, to get that which he wants: deceit.

"What if my father would touch me," asks Yankle. In planning his deception, it is not love for his father, nor respect for his age that drives his hesitation--rather, it is the fear to be found out.And so--covering his arm with the hide of a kid, pretending to be that which he is not--he is now ready for the last moment he is going to have with his father.

George Bernstein (suspenseguy) | 97 comments My 2nd novel, A 3rd TIME TO DIE will be offered free as a Kindle, as part of the KDP Select program, beginning Aug. 9 through Aug 13.

For those who loved my 1st novel, TRAPPED, this should be right up your alley. Here’s the pitch:
Two souls struggle to fulfill their destiny together. Twice, just as they discover the magic of their love, first, during a fox hunt in 17th Century southern England, and then again in 19th Century Philadelphia, their lives are snuffed out by brutal murder. Reborn for the third time, in the 21st Century, their! love of jumping horses brings them together again…and their ancient killer may be still stalking them

A Third Time to Die's is a Paranormal romantic Suspense, published by new Indie “participation” publisher (NOT a Vanity Press), GnD Publishers LLC, that did a great job for me. The novel is different from the glut of vampires, werewolves, angels and demons. Its theme is more in the vein of Nora Robert’s “Midnight Bayou,” which was also made into a Lifetime Original Movie, or the movie “Dead Again.”

Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments Just a little advice

It never fails to amaze me how we have become such an instant society. Now, what exactly do I mean by that? We have become a society in which entertainment, whether television, movies, or books can be had at the press of a button almost anywhere in the world and at any time. As a writer, that means you must have a constant presence in order to stand out among all the clutter.

I have been on vacation for the last few days and have not written any new posts or made my presence known on the internet by promoting. Now, you would think that such a short span of time away from marketing and promoting my books wouldn’t have an effect on sales. But it has. In just three days of internet silence my daily sales have dropped about thirty percent. And I do believe that if a week had gone by my sales would have dropped even further.

I wrote an article about this phenomenon a few years back when I went on a longer vacation and saw my sales drop dramatically. In order to sell books you must maintain a web presence on the big writer’s sites and writer’s and reader’s threads and communities at all times. People are constantly bombarded with ads and have learned to ignore them like an over-fed frog ignores a bothersome fly. The only way to get noticed is to keep involved.

Though I know we all need a vacation from the stresses and absurdities of life, the work of a writer is never done; whether it’s creating new characters and stories or marketing existing works to get read. To make it big in the publishing world you must put forth the effort to get noticed. Sales do not happen just because a book is a great read they happen because people find out that it is a great read. And that is achieved by marketing.

Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments Ever since Ereader news today sponsored DROP OUT and it went to #22 in romantic suspense, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FX0K7U sales have remained steady in a good way. As I’ve always said, it takes a lot of extra hard work to keep the sales momentum going, but thanks to all the great reviews and word-of-mouth the book is getting the journey to the bestseller list is going easier. I had a feature written about me in my local hometown magazine and I’ve been doing a lot of blog interviews to add to my exposure. Here’s a link to my latest.
http://richlikesbooks.blogspot.com/20...

I’ve also been getting a lot of personal emails from people telling me how the book has affected them and literally change their outlooks on life. Nearly all my reviews from all over the world are five-star and my blog posts have been re-posted by others thousands of times. Here’s my latest review from Amazon U.K.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wasn't sure I'd like this book
6 Aug 2013
By Mrs. C. I. Campbell
Format: Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought the subject matter would be too gruelling and too sad to bear...and, in many ways it was. But it was handled in such a way that I didn't feel voyeuristic, as I expected. Instead, it felt like a story that ought to be told, and, in the end, I felt uplifted. The action scenes were so well written, it seemed incredible they could have been written by someone who had not lived through these things. There was intense pain and passion in this book as well as great compassion and understanding. Masterfully written.
* * *

Other indie writers have written me telling me that I am wasting valuable writing time with all this marketing and promoting. They say my time would be better spent writing new books than doing all the things I do so small pockets of readers can get to know me. They say volume of material will get me my readers. I disagree.

It may take a thousand blog interviews and reviews before the mainstream gets to know my material, but they will get to know it. I’d rather have a huge, loyal fan base that took time (years) to build over nine books than a hundred published books that no one has read.

It is about an Egyptian secret service agent who falls in love with a beautiful Israeli actress who is torn between duty to his country and religion and the only woman he will ever care for. The novel is 85% true and details all the political intrigue involved in the 1956 Suez War between Egypt, Israel, England, and France although it spans 3,000 years of Middle East conflict. you can find the book at www.amazom.com/the conspiraciesofdreams.

Judah Freed (judahfreed) | 2 comments In the spirit of supporting an indie author, here is a "crowdsourcing" project for the club:

I am looking for a new phrase (ideally one or two words), that describes "global citizens" and "global thinkers." Both terms are true enough, but what's needed is a fresh phrase that hooks the imagination of people in the book trade and helps popularize a global sensibility among the general public.

So, what so YOU call the people who live their lives with a global awareness?

Here are some of their main characteristics:

They know we all are globally interconnected. This global awareness guides all of their daily life choices. Their lives influence others. They hold the vision for us to manifest our highest and best human potential. They serve as our inspiring "role models." They are local to global "activists" and "advocates." They are "practical idealists." They ask people to wake up to our global oneness. The apply the Law of Attraction. Do you get the idea?

What one word or phrase best describes such people, people like yourself?

George Pritchard | 19 comments I write to connect and to touch. I do not seek fans but readers, kindred spirits.

"I love this authors use of language. There is just something so wildly poetic about the way he writes. I would swim in his words if that were possible. There is just an effortlessness in this complicated story and the descriptions are beyond laughable. He had me in stitches all the way through.

From the opening pages you are pulled into an era long gone. The characters are rich and well defined. There is a likability to even the least likable characters. The plot is entertaining. This is an extremely 'smart' book that is wrapped in a cartoonish style package. There is great sophistication in the writing even when speaking about prepubescent sex, (a lot of it) old time movies, the high school drama department music, and baseball camp. There are also history and Old Testament lessons if you pay close attention. You might need a dictionary for this one but it is worth the extra effort!

"While the future with Daisy was uncertain but certainly pregnant with prospect, it was certain that Sam had been expelled from all sports at Barrington High for missing basketball practice without an excuse- his second offense. Sam learned his lesson. He decided if he ever did something wrong at school again, he would be armed with whatever written excuse, or excuses, might be needed, all in proper form."

The book set in ancient Israel is the report of a young man who would be called a private detective at the present time. I'm pretty much a stickler for details about physical locations---geography, weather, sun coverage, social customs, political activities, actual history, etc.---so anyone reading the book will pick up these things simply bt reading the novel.

If you would like a copy, just let me know at wmyrral at gmail.com

I love you.

Tarah Scott and I are interviewing promotional and marketing companies, comparing services and prices and trying to get the low-down on what works best, and the questions authors should ask these types of companies when they're looking to purchase promotional or marketing services. The event includes question-and-answer, so you have a chance to ask questions of any and all participating businesses.
