Judy This book was AWFUL!

Divya.D Anvekar Ya the ending was really sad..

message 203: by Jen (new)

Jen Its all very well and noble, but c'mon, am I the only one in thinking that other guy should have croaked and left the space for John to move back in? Is that a totally awful thought?

Kathleen I hated the ending, so sad but it was really cool that John saved savannah's husband. my fave book

Safiyyah this is one of my favourite books!!!! the ending was very sad but the book itself was perfect

Arden ummm..yeah! I was seriously disappointed...it was sweet...but...he gave you so much to hope for because the book was based around john and savannahs love story

Ericka Johnson Yes, of course the end was sad. All books written can't have a happy ending that is why Nicholas Sparks is such a great reader.

message 208: by Jade (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jade The ending made me sad. I was hoping that he would find someone else and be happy. We were kind of left wondering what would happen to him would he be alone or does he find someone.

I loved the ending. I thought it was not only real but different from other books. This is one of my favorites Nicholas Sparks' books because of the ending. It different and although it is sad. It makes sense knowing John's character.

message 210: by Megan (new) - rated it 3 stars

Megan it was so sad for john depressing :(

message 211: by Eva (new) - rated it 3 stars

Eva Nicholas Sparks used to be one of my favorite writers, but it seems to me that lately his writing is becoming very commercial, due to the fact that his books are being converted to movies.

Jeannie Didn't care for the ending. But the book was better than the movie.

Sin Mei Lim I did, it was nothing I expected and i was devastated but it touched my heart in so many ways that I would never wished for another ending.

message 214: by Yijing (new) - rated it 2 stars

Yijing The ending does feel sad, but to me....the second half of the book is too dramatic, which make it a bit unrealistic....

message 215: by Emma (new) - rated it 4 stars

Emma This ending is one of the worst endings I have ever read, but at the same time it's one of the best. I cried big time, but at the same time it was so beautiful! This is the best books by Nicholas Sparks in my opinion.

Kristia I thought the ending was sad, like really because I watched the movie first and it's ending is kind of hanging so I was also expecting that for the book as well.

Pranjal Jain I have not read the book yet. But I have seen the movie and now I want to read the book.

That was my take on it!

Yaralyn Hernandez The ending couldn't be more perfect. It is real life. Savanah really loves John but they cant be together by the cancer of her hudsband. I think it is the most beautiful boook. I really love this book. Dear john is my favorite book I have read it 4 times.

message 220: by [deleted user] (new)

I hated Savannah but it made the book what it is it wouldn't have worked any other way

message 221: by Mawada (last edited May 06, 2014 02:35PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mawada Ibrahim It was sad. But i think it's the right end, Savanna (as i think) is not the one for John. I really hated what they did in the movie, they totally changed it, it was cliché.
But anyway the book end was realistic and unpredictable.

message 222: by Kelly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kelly I thought this book was very beautiful. I know most people are saying the ending was too sad but I felt like it was an act of true love and it was a beautiful thing ..then hollywood went and ruined it..

Ericka Johnson I loved the book. I never saw the movie and never want to see it. I gate the way Hollywood ruins alit of good books.

message 224: by Jools (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jools I loved the book and in defence of the film, on the DVD I have you have a choice of endings. One where they meet later on (Think this is the standard ending) and the one where they do not.

In the book I did not like what Savannah did to John while reading. It was after I finished that I began to think about it and understood why she made the choices she made. John reenlisting put a strain on the long distance relationship. Then her best friend becoming ill. She was needed by Tim and it give her life purpose and something to focus on. She loved Tim and Alan but never truly in love like she was with John. So in some sense later I felt her grief for both the love she lost in John and the love she eventually lost in her best friend and husband Tim.

Iimaan I liked it. I dont think it was sad but quite satisfying.

message 227: by Cheska (last edited May 18, 2014 10:30PM) (new)

Cheska Tinga i love the book. it left me pondering what love means. i was touched by what john did. he sold the coin for Tim, yet he didn't need to do so. he helps Tim to get well rather than marrying savannah if Tim dies. i also shed some tears on the part of John and his dad, they're very near yet so far. i salute his dad for raising John very well, despite of his situation. all in all, i love the book veeeeeeery much. great work nicholas sparks!!! also i prefer the book rather than the movie. the book is so realistic, in sense of not everything is a happy ending.

message 228: by Iqra (last edited May 30, 2014 11:34PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Iqra It was heart breaking and perfect at the same time. Had not it been folded this way, it would not have been able to cast the same effect it did on the readers in the first place. The prologue, epilogue and the last conversation Savannah and John have with eachother is just so amazing. Had me shedding tears literally whilst reading. One of my all time favourite books.

Kamikaze Kahlua In a way it was sad, like a bittersweet symphony kind of way. The two had grown apart. The had grown into different lives. The love they had was perfect while they had it. IF it had continued to grow and evolve with them as people growing and evolving it would be different, but that's not how it happened. They grew and evolved into two very different people who in the end just weren't compatible. Sometimes old habits really do die hard...

I completely agree with you. I would have kept my word and would have at least tried to be loyal and true to him. If my feelings had changed, I would have spoken to him and explained everything, not be suddenly married to someone else....

yeah, I think she should have told him she was married.

message 232: by benita (new) - rated it 4 stars

benita I liked the ending :)

Марија No,it wasn't perfect.
I was hoping that those two will end up together.
The end is sad and I hate it.

message 234: by Sadaf (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sadaf No, the ending was not sad, it had a lot of meaning to it which couldn't be expressed in words hence the ending.

Brittany Hurt Judy wrote: "I thought the ending could not have been more perfect."

Yes!! The ending is what made the book all of Nicholas Sparks' books have some kind of sad or unexpected ending that bring out emotion and that is what makes the book so good.

Brittany Hurt Erica wrote: "Yeah I wanted to slap Savannah. Reading the book you get the feeling that they shared a deep bond. But then I feel sorry for her because it seems as though she married the other guy out of pity."
I felt an understanding with savannahs position, personally I don't know what I would've done but it was so unfair to her I am not taking sides because I feel like both of them were right and both of them were wrong but love is unpredictable and when you're lonely everything is harder, I don't feel as if she married Tim a much as out of pity but more so out of human nature and natural desire, love is complex and unexplainable its obvious that she cared more about John but looking in from her perspective its possible she also loved Tim. You can love more then one person but there is always that one, and I feel it was unfortunate but realistic the way sparks wrote this book. I completely sympathize with all three savannah, john, and tim.

Brittany Hurt I love this book!! I cried so much, but for me that's what makes books so good, I feel as if the ending was perfectly realistic and although I cried I was smiling the whole time, this book is a perfect example of real love.

message 238: by Aletheia (last edited Sep 15, 2014 11:35PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aletheia The ending is sooo... heart breaking. I literally cried for hours! I'm so depressed and annoyed because they didn't end up together. And what John did, I can't imagine myself accepting what happened if i were in his shoes. I didn't read another book for like 2 weeks because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Up to now, when that book comes across my mind, I feel sad and emotional. I won't forget it. Especially the freaking ending.

message 239: by Ranjan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ranjan Kumar Yeah, I find it really sad when I was about to complete the novel. It do happen in real life too.

message 240: by Jess (new)

Jess Sutton in my mind, John moved on and found another soul mate but of course never forgot Savannah. i do really wish they got back together but i like the ending, the ending gives the book a privilege to never be forgotten because it was a love story never meant to be. i have to say, i love the movie

message 241: by louli (new)
