Kandice I try every year, on my kids birthday to write them a love letter. I buy pretty stationary and just write what I think about them at the time. Obviously only sweet things! I have a pretty box for each of them and have been saving them for when they leave home.

message 4052: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh I love that nickname! Thank you Laura:)

message 4053: by Kandice (new)

Kandice MissSassySpottedWings. That's the one I like.

message 4054: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I will remind you, but I don't believe you will do it!!! Nighty night. Don't let the bed bugs bite and all that jazz....

message 4055: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm waiting to watch Biggest Loser at 7...then I'm probably going to read for the rest of the night. I am ready to be over halfway done already!

message 4056: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Good night Fiona and good luck at the Doctor, which you will call first thing in the AM!

Miss SSW - the scones are terrific! And so quick & easy. She's out to dinner w/her friends at a fundraiser for school, but I know she'll enjoy them when she gets back. We made a cake too. Woo hoo!

I like your letter idea, I think that's really sweet. I'm sure your kids will appreciate that - will prob. never want to leave home once they get them !

message 4057: by [deleted user] (new)

Kandice is right, Mom always gets what the kids have. So far I'm good but this bug they have is all over the school and my work.

message 4058: by [deleted user] (new)

There is now a Chicken Pox vaccine. My 7 year old got that. Both my daughters caught the chicken pox when they were in preschool. I was so scared because they had really high fevers. Chicken pox is deadly for children under 4 yrs old and adults especially the elderly.

message 4059: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) OMG that bug ! It's everywhere here too. My dau.'s had it for days, my husband had it before her, and I think she said almost 1/3 of the kids at school are out sick. It's wildly spreading!

message 4060: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona: I don't think you could give up GR for lent.

message 4061: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a $5 starbucks gift card I just know it will get me a small drink. I should stop by on my way to work tomorrow.

message 4062: by [deleted user] (new)

I love honey on scones.

message 4063: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Emilee - are you still reading Prodigal Summer?

message 4064: by [deleted user] (new)

I wish we could get rid of colds. It just stinks!

Happy Birthday Ashley!

message 4065: by [deleted user] (new)

Good Night Fiona! It's so weird saying that when it's 6:45 pm.

message 4066: by Kandice (last edited Feb 25, 2009 04:48PM) (new)

Kandice My kids all had the chicken pox vaccine too, but they can still get it, with considerably less spots, and almost no fever.
When I was a kid and got it, my mom made my brothers and I all sleep in the "big bed" until everyone had it. She wanted to get it over with. I have one scar on my side, and one on my foot, but was lucky not to get any on my face.
My oldedst brother scratched one really bad on his face, so my younger brother did to, ON PURPOSE, in the hopes of almost matching scars. They got 'em!

message 4067: by [deleted user] (new)

That's what I heard. Most of my friends kids got it within days after the vaccine. I know that a few kids in school this year have already had the chicken pox my son is luck so far. I worry that they will end up with it when they become elderly and it will kill them. It sounds awful but it could happen.

It is so weird how scratching at the pox cause scars. I have a few on my legs.

message 4068: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm glad the scones came out well, Laura. I hadn't actually tried any "healthy" recipes for them!

message 4069: by [deleted user] (new)

I am so craving scones now! I also love the cinnamon scones. I have a huge sweet tooth.

message 4070: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Scones are perfect because they aren't really that sweet. Just enough. Especially if you glaze them. I may have to make some for home. My stomach is growling.

message 4071: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) They are so good!

message 4072: by Kandice (last edited Feb 25, 2009 04:57PM) (new)

Kandice Emilee-The recipe is post 6143. I have to admit, I would probably use white flour. I am horrible, I know, but I just prefer it. I also like to pat the dough in 2 thick pancake shapes and then cust that into fourths. The shape seems more "sconey" somehow.

message 4073: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) This recipe is great, cuz there's not even any oil - just applesauce! No butter, nothin bad. I even used sugar in the raw instead of white sugar. But they still taste so good!

message 4074: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Thanks! I love baking!

message 4075: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think we are going to hit 7000 posts in this thread tonight! Maybe in 24 hours!

message 4076: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm sure you could tweak it and still keep it healthy. Like reduce the liquid slightly and use a little fruit compote, like a berry of some sort. I also know that stage 1 baby food can be substituted for bananas, 1 jar per banana required. You could do the same with plums, peaches, apricots etc. I have used almost everything. The plum seems to come out perfect. I always add just a bit of ginger when I use plum. You would just need to fold the fruit in instead of completely mixing.

message 4077: by [deleted user] (new)

Applesauce would give it a great flavor.

message 4078: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) And moistness too!

message 4079: by Kandice (new)

Kandice The applesauce does give flavor, but really it's to replace the fat. You can use applesauce in cake mixes and brownie mixes too, instead of oil. When it's such a small amount, the flavor isn't a big deal.

message 4080: by Kandice (last edited Feb 25, 2009 05:27PM) (new)

Kandice My problem, is that I do know how to cook healthy and tweak recipes, because of my Diabetic parents, but I don't want to!

message 4081: by [deleted user] (new)

I love sugar too much. But I have used honey instead of sugar and oh it makes things taste so much better. I do love honey. And it's great for allergies!

message 4082: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm logging off for the night. I have to work tomorrow so I'm sure I'll come back to 100's of posts!

Off to reading and getting kids to bed! Good Night Everyone!

message 4083: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Good night, dear.

message 4084: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) go to the doctor.

message 4085: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm pretty sure I might be sick. I feel terrible. :( I didn't want to call in sick and make my dumb boss mad though...so here I am.

message 4086: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) The Stand got dang good last night. I should have called in sick so I could stay home and read.

message 4087: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) good :) I don't want your head to fall off.

message 4088: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) ugh. thats a long time though!

message 4089: by Kandice (last edited Feb 26, 2009 06:39AM) (new)

Kandice Yay Fiona! I am incredibly proud of you. I am marking that on my calendar, so I can remind you. Are you one of those that will feel better later and cancel your appt.?

message 4090: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ahab's Wife Or, The Star-gazer A Novel
A Widow for One Year
One True Thing A Novel

These are my choices for my next read. Have a suggestion?

message 4091: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Middlesex

In all fairness, I have this too, but from the reviews, I'm not sure I really want to read it.

message 4092: by Kandice (new)

Kandice So, just pick. I am going to read my Ellery Queen until I choose one. I hate that I can't add that to my read books or pages, but I also hate the idea of missing all those stories!

(good morning)

message 4093: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Thanks! I was actually leaning toward that one because of reviews.
How is your neck today?

message 4094: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I've heard of Arab's Wife! Sooo I agree, you should read that.

I also have Middlesex but don't know if I want to read it...

message 4095: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) cause its supposed to be good?

maybe I'll be in the mood someday.

message 4096: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have it because it was $ .75 at the thrift store for the trade paperback. Perfect condition, and I had seen it mentioned on GRs lots of times.

message 4097: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) me too...cept mine was a whole dollar :(

message 4098: by Kandice (new)

Kandice All those books I asked you girls about were either $ .50 or $ .75. That's my favorite size and kind too. Big enough, but not hard back, so not too heavy. Middlesex seems a little depressing.

message 4099: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Allison, I hope you feel better.

Fiona, yay for you on finally making an appointment!

I'm booking a spa day for this weekend. A treat for me since it's my b-day. :)

message 4100: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Happy early birthday! A spa day sounds really awesome.
