Kandice I don't know what minesweeper is. I don't know if you have all the same video games in England, but have you heard of Call of Duty? Or Rock Band?

message 3602: by Kandice (new)

Kandice The Call of Duty we have is for Wii. Rockband is also Wii. You can play drums, it's a real set, guitar, a realish one you actually strum and you can also sing. You can do one by yourself, or all 3 with friends. It is so much fun> I hate Call of Duty and am hoping they ARE NOT playing it when I get home. The boys are addicted to it.

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments I am so bad at that game Fiona.

Kandice my son has Rockband and Call of Duty for the Xbox...He loves both of the games.

message 3604: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I do Sing Star on the playstation 3 and Wii with my girlfriends all the time! We have such a good time. We kick everyone out and we just go to town!!!

Both my sons are very, very into their guitars. They like Rockband and Guitar Hero, but don't play as much anymore because it's so different from a real guitar they say you have to get back into the groove of whichever.

message 3605: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Thanks for the link Fiona:)

41 minutes! I'll gather up my roses and chocolates, race out of here, and we are off... Hooray!

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Kandice are you going to Disneyland or Disneyworld? Am I remembering right that your husband bought you tickets?

message 3607: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Call of Duty and Brotherhood sound a LOT alike. CoD is World War 2.

message 3608: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Brady has a game called Monkey Island. I wonder if it's the same.

I think I cheated on your "list" game. I added #6 and then #8, but the next person took my 8 off. I thought we could add two but not in succession.I promise I wasn't trying to cheat!!!!

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments I use to get addicted to Tetris...lol but I love the midless games...but of course I love Suduko too...I guess I just love any games...hehe

message 3610: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Depending on how well Darby's team places in the tournament we could be home as early as 4 Sunday, or as late as 9. I don;t know if you know what they are, but the Oscars are on Sunday, and I really do not want to miss them!!!!

We have games in our house that are 13 or 15 or whatever. I keep them in seperate places, and I am super strict about who gets to play what. My husband, though, will sometimes play a game with Brady (12) that I wouldn't let him play alone. (compromises of marriage;)

message 3611: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I loved Tetris! The only other game I was ever addicted to was Donkey King. I am not lying, but I broke my arm, and learned to play better than all my brothers using my.............feet!!!! I swear!

message 3612: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments LOL that is funny Kandice...I liked Donkey Kong too.
Now I play WoW online. It takes time away from my reading...but I play it with my husband he's addicted to it...hehe

message 3613: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Frogger and Centipede were pretty good too. I am really not into any of the "newfangled" games. You'd think I was 100! There just seems to be too much going on. They look so real. I like watching Brady play the Mario games, and some of the Wii things are cool. Yoga, bowling, carnival games, but otherwise, I am an observer.
I can just imagine you getting all into it Fiona! Do you sqwuak at the t.v.?

message 3614: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Kandice we will miss you...I know I don't talk a lot on the threads here but I love reading what you and everyone else on here talk about...Makes me feel like I have girlfriends online...hehe

message 3615: by Kandice (new)

Kandice You would like Mario Kart Fiona. All I ever seem to do is crash! My kids are always begging me to play, and I know it's just for comic relief!

Thanks guys. I'll miss you too! What did I do before GRs?

I have heard of the Baftas, but never seen them. I haven't seen a lot of the movies this year, I just alwys get so excited. Also, this is a little embarassing to admit, but a few years, my husband and I have played this game. We print out the nominees for each category. We have to choose before the Oscars start. If his choice wins, I have to take a drink (of alcohol) If I win, he does. If neither of us do, we both take a drink. I am not a big drinker (understatement) and two years, I never even saw the end!!!! I fell asleep! It was a lot of fun, though.

Katie Flora Wilkins (kflora) | 0 comments Fiona, et al

mkay, I have to weigh in about Stephan King. "The Stand" gets people now because of the possibility of bio-terrorism, modern plague, etc. The BEST King book was "The Shining". It scared the sh.., well, the bejeebers out of me.

My conclusions are based on King's memoir "On Writing", where he really lets us get into his wild and weird head.

On the side, I had a next door neighbor who often played with his kids at his house. Her descriptions of him, his family and the house were very interesting, and very human. From what she said, the Kings were very nice, but not your typical family, given his fame and his genre.

I bought The Stand on a whim and when I got it..."

I loved "The Lovely Bones", but I can see where it might not be attractive to everyone, because it's really a breakdown of some unlikeable people. If you want to understand Sebold, you may want to read her memoir Lucky to see where she's coming from.

message 3620: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments You know I have never been a huge fan of Stephen King but my husband is. I did read Christine when I was a teenager. I have seen The Shining movie and liked it, I did think it was creepy the first time I saw it but I was only 12 years old when I saw it...LOL

message 3621: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments The book is both scary and creepy. It is a good read if you are into Stephen King. I loved it, personally.

I whish The lovely bones didn't had that nice blue cover ebcause then I probably wouldn't have read it and would have a book less with one star. I would give it zero stars!

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I have a bit a crazy thought but going to try as much as possible. I want to finish Jonathan Strange this weekend. It is now saturday morning, 8am. I really enjoy the book and I am over 500 pages now. I don't know why but it is a book for me.
The only thing is that most reading might have to be done on sunday and that is only one day.... I promised my boyfreind that if the weathr is good we will go to the city centre and I offer him lunch there in a place that I don't have a clue if it is any good but that I want to try out. It isn't a restaurant but....well you know the old american style with lots of coloured lights, a bit like in Happy Days....well it seems like that. I am jsut so curious to try it when i see the place from outside.... but if we go there will be practically no reading today....

message 3634: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Kandice recommended one...ummmm can't remember I'll have to go look, she said its her favorite. Maybe you have that one.

message 3639: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) eh, I just lurk there even though I flagrantly disobey.

message 3640: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read much Stephen King. I need to read the stand and Salem's lot because I own them.

message 3641: by [deleted user] (new)

Allison: you are making me want to go book buying! I can't until I hit 50 books that I own already. I only have lke 30 to go!

message 3642: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona you are so good! I won't get anything until I hit 50 read books. Unless of course my father buys something for me!

message 3643: by [deleted user] (new)

My Dad is a worse book addict them I am. When I moved out of the house he filled my old room with books. When my brothers moved out their rooms books. I think he has as many books as some small libriaries!

message 3644: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Fiona, I haven't read much of Stephen King but my husband has and his favorite book is IT. Good luck in choosing...hehe!!!

And Allison you make me want to go to the used bookstore...but I just bought books yesterday and if I buy anymore I think my husband will divorce me...lol I have to resist!

message 3645: by [deleted user] (new)

I read It when I was in about 14. Scared the heck out of me. I doubt it would be scary now!

message 3646: by [deleted user] (new)

message 3647: by [deleted user] (new)

I am actually going to start a quilt today. As a matter of fact got side tracked. Came to get thread & logged onto GR. We will see if I start it or not!

message 3648: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) oh...and did I mention that I got the set of three Pamela Aiden books about Mr. Darcy used off Amazon last night too?

(lets not tell my husband about this)

Fiona. Read Anne of Green Gables. Now. ;)

I really am going to read The Stand though. I can't decide whether I want to read that or The First Man in Rome next. I think I'm going to finish Jurassic Park today though, and then I have to read Two for the Dough and Three to Get Deadly because I have to loan them to someone Monday.

message 3649: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Well...fiiiiine. The Stand it is. I DID promise Kandice I would start The First Man in Rome this week though....

eh well. If The Stand is as addicting as you say, that probably won't be a problem.

I have to stop listening to you Fiona! First ICTC...now the Roth trilogy...The Stand...Howl's.

My own TBR's are not very happy with you.

message 3650: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm not very good at doing that. I am reading Two for the Dough and Jurassic Park right now, but I really don't like reading two at once.
