Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments I started taking inventory of all my books and putting them in an excel sheet. I am up to 65 books I have not read yet but own. I know I have so many more that is sad...I really need to stop buying.

Anyways Kandice your husband is so sweet. I'd say hang on to him...lol

message 3552: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I think JP 4 is coming out later this year...

I recorded the original movie off Cinemax last night, I'm excited to watch it after I finish the book.

message 3553: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Prey wasn't one one of my favorites, but I'll read anything he wrote. The plane one was Airframe. It was a big deal in our family because my father-in-law is retired from American Airlines. He actually read it and was amazed at how much Crichton got right, being an outsider.
Next is really good, but sad as it involves a sweet little monkey, and...*zip*

Kandice 1,000,000 posts. It's a pipe dream, but we do love to keep our beloved Miss Sassy Pants happy!

Kandice We have a lovely theatre. It has 21 screens. The seats all recline and are super wide. You can buy tickets in line, on the internet, or at a machine around the corner up to 7 days in advance. It's ridiculously expensive, at $10.75 a ticket. Large popcorn is $10.50 with 1 refill. I have to admit, my children and I usually bring candy and sodas in a backpack and then just buy popcoprn. Oh! And now they have sailor salt. That flavored salt? There's caramel, garlic and white cheddar. You can pour as much as you want and it's fab!

Kandice I know I WILL see JP 4, just on principal, but I bet I don't like it.
The movie I am dying to see is Watchmen.

message 3558: by Allison (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:58AM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I just want to see Harry Potter 6 and New Moon. haha, I'm like a 13 year old.

Plus I think The Hobbit is coming out in like a year, that'll be cool.

And OUTLANDER IN 2011!!!! (Although I have my doubts they can pull it off)

message 3559: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I want to see your first two as well, Allison.
I have to guiltily admit to seeing Twilight 3 times! Once with each child. It comes out on DVD in March and I will be buying it.

message 3560: by Allison (last edited Feb 20, 2009 01:08PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) LOL....you guys, I went and saw it twice by myself and once with my mom. And I am buying it in March too.

I had just read the books when the movie was out, so I went through like a week of Twilight obsession.

*embarassed*

message 3561: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Fiona-I tried to draw a pig like 5 times, but they look horrible. I am too embarassed to post those! Give me a pencil...

message 3562: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I had no interest in the books at all. Out of the blue, Vinny bought it for me (Twilight) and my goddaughter had wanted to read it. Her mom said she couldn't until it had been "previewed". I had a copy, so I volunteered. I ended up reading all 4 in about 9 days. Ridiculous!!!!!!!!

message 3563: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I know! I was horribly annoyed when they pushed it back.

I have a Ravenclaw robe that I made with college friends...I'm trying to decide if I'm too old to wear it if I go to a midnight premier...if I wait until later, I certainly won't wear it.

Its so nice though! Very nice black material with blue lining and a patch and everything.

message 3564: by Kandice (new)

Kandice We have 5 beautiful blankets folded up on the floor by the couch. 4 of them are the four houses and one has the faces of Harry, Ron and Hermione. They are super soft and warm. My husband saw them on 75% off at Kohl's and bought all they had! We gave themto my kids friends for Christmas that year and kept one of each for home. They are my favorite blankets.

message 3565: by Allison (last edited Feb 20, 2009 01:20PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I used to make fun of people that read fantasy. I was like "only creepy nerds read that stuff."

Then, after a little reflection, I realized I count Twilight, HP, LOTR and Outlander as my favorite stories of all time.

ha.

message 3566: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Fiona-I am almost finished with ICTC. I am going to buckl down and finish on my lunch. I am at an incredibly frustrating part!!!! I so wanted to finish last night, but I had to pack and... well, couldn't. This better not have a frustrating ending!!!!!

message 3567: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I sure am a nerd.

Some people might think I'm creepy. Only the ones that aren't used to me looking in their windows at night.

message 3568: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well yeah! Because we can imagine perfection, but somehow can't seem to deliver it.
Look at a picture of Alan Tudyk and see what you think of him as Jamie.

message 3569: by Kandice (new)

Kandice But Jamie IS carrotty.

message 3570: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Sorry I just started lunch and have read 4 more pages. I am 12 pages from the end!

message 3571: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) FIONA! HOW COULD YOU?

haha. just kidding.

Yuck, you like him better than JAMIE?

Well...okay...I can see that. I probably would be the same, but the initial hold Jamie got on me is just too strong.

message 3572: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) P.S. He is in Dragonfly.

Oh wait. Unless you mean _ _ _ instead of _ _ _ _ _.

(lol)

message 3573: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hahahaha...it shocked the heck out of me too!!

message 3574: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) aww, I suppose it must be done.

I have been waiting for everyone to finish so we can talk about it in the ICTC thread!

message 3575: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I deleted it!

message 3576: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) What is your favorite Scottish name?

I think a good name for YOUNG boys would be IAN.

message 3577: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) mkay, thats what I initially thought about Rog...

message 3578: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I DELETED IT!!!!! SORRY!!!!!!!

message 3579: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Poor guy :( they really put him through it.

message 3580: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) LOL. Probably never by the wife.

message 3581: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Those Stephanie Plum books are completely mindless...but they are like pee your pants funny.

I think I might read a couple of them this weekend before I get cranking on The First Man in Rome

message 3582: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Okay I finished. That was incredibly satisfying, but what a bolt out of the blue! *zip*

message 3583: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Okay, I have been waiting at ITIC. I thought we were going to DISCUSS!

message 3584: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Thank you! And, seriously, thank you for suggesting the book. (well, really pushing...) I never would have found it on my own. It was a beautiful read. Any young girl would like it, I think. It shows a lot of sacrifice for those we love. That's always a good lesson.
I don't remember. Have you read Daddy Longlegs?

message 3585: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Oh Daddy Long Legs is okay and Anne of Green Gables isn't?

*grumbles*

...eh well, I'm venting my frustration by making my mom read it. muhahahahha.

message 3586: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) well crap...Daddy Long Legs does look good! ha.

message 3587: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) LOL...Don't worry Fiona, I just added Daddy Long Legs to my TBR list.

message 3588: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I read DLL for the first time when I was about 9. I may have read it 20 times since. It's pretty short, but it's quite a bit like ICTC. Very gentle. Coming of age and learning what we want is not always going to stay the same. I have recommended (maybe pushed) that book on quite a few of my children's friend's, as well as my daughter. It's lovely.

message 3589: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Ugh. I didn't like Water for Elephants.

message 3590: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I was looking forward to reading it...and it was okay, I just didn't really get anything out of it.

Eh well, I hope In The Woods wins the other! I already have it ;)

message 3591: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) A gorgeously written novel that marks the debut of an astonishing new voice in psychological suspense

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox--his partner and closest friend&--find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.

Richly atmospheric, stunning in its complexity, and utterly convincing and surprising to the end, In the Woods is sure to enthrall fans of Mystic River and The Lovely Bones.

message 3592: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I hated The Lovely Bones too, but that phrase "blood filled sneakers"... ooh, that's just chilling, now isn't it? There's a story by Stephen King where a small boy gets hits by a train. H eis literally knocked out of his sneakers, which sounds unrealistic, but the way he describes it is just so... real.

message 3593: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yaaaaaaaay! I got The Stand in the mail today.

I hated The Lovely Bones, but I am looking forward to reading In The Woods now, I had forgotten what it was about since I got it :-)

message 3594: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) lol...I changed my vote to pad something else because I want to take Water for Elephants DOWN.

message 3595: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Is it the the uncut version? I have read both, and of course there is more detail in the uncut, but the story is mesmerizing either way.

message 3596: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Not Dreamcatcher. Misery is terrific because, unlike a lot of his books, it could really happen, right now, today! Annie Wilkes is one scary crazy lady.

It was not my favorite King book because something happens hear the end that I can never understand or see the need for. If you read it I would love to know what you think, but it makes me angry.

The thing with Dreamcatcher is that there are these things that are s#@t weasels, and you may walk around with your buttocks puckered up for weeks as a result of reading it!

message 3597: by Kandice (new)

Kandice You mean I made you want to read Dreamcatcher? It has alien elements, as in outer space, so if you can go with that, it's a good read. I'm not kidding though, I still involuntarily clutch my butt when I think of it! (like now) I can not watch the movie.

It, like I was saying, is an excellent book. Like the Stand, there is an epic feel to it. You would recognize these people if you saw them and can anticiapte their reactions. He is so good at portraying character! There's just that one thing, right near the end that infuriates me! I have had heated discussions with people about the relevance, and how could it possibly change the story. I have re-read it twice and have blacked out the entire section of my book with that part. I never mark my books or fold corners, so that shows you how much I HATE THAT SCENE!!!!!

message 3598: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Do you have the paperback? I will look and tell you what pages I wish you would not read with your young, sweet, innocent eyes, okay?

message 3599: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ummmm... Not in the same criteria, region or league!!!!

message 3600: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I read Carrie when I was 10, and quickly read everything else he had published until that point. As he wrote more, I read each as they came out. I have read every word he has ever written. I've even bought old issues of magazines on E-Bay to be sure I have all his stories. Even when the story he is telling isn't to my liking, I just really feel what he is trying to make me feel. I can always see what he wants me to see.
