Xanax was prescriped to the chimp by the vet. Apparently, they give it to dogs too who suffer from anxiety. The chimp also had Lyme disease, which they also believed helped to contibute to his agitation. Unfortunately, it's not the first time this chimp had gotten into trouble. A couple of years ago he had gotten lose from its owner and animal control had to come and get him.

message 3452: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Rachel said they weren't sure of the effects of Xanax on animals. It sounds like it's normal to prescribe it, but in the case of the chimp, because they are so strong, doesn't it seem that if he needs calming, medication should have been only part of the solution? I know you can't possibly know, but it's just so sad, all around.

That was in family guy!!!!

Allison (inconceivably) was it? Thats probably where the friend that told it to me heard it.

Have you been to the Dr. about that blasted neck? It seems to bug you a lot.
The deli has open faced turkey sandwiches too! That's what I am having for lunch. Yummy!"

want some lemon mousse tooooooo

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments okay, till tomorrow going to read some more Jonathan Strange. really enjoying it.

Allison (inconceivably) *makes face*

screw lemons. BRING ON THE CHOCOLATE.

Actually, I'm craving those zebra cakes made by Little Debbie. I haven't had them in YEARS...so I have no idea what brought this on.

Considering they are about as healthy as eating lard, I should probably just get over it.

message 3458: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) They are little white cakes with white creamy stuff in the middle, covered in hard white icing, with chocolate stripes across the top.

I think it was the owner's fault. If she gave him medication, she should have had him caged. Especially if she knew he was agitated. The only thing she keeps saying is that he's was so gentle. But of course hindsight is 20/20...she raised him as a child, so she probably was blind to the fact that he was in fact a wild animal.

message 3460: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Yeah, they would be better if they were fresh. Gosh, that would be lovely.

These are heavily processed, and have probably been sitting around in a factory for like 10 years.

message 3461: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I think I read somewhere that your taste buds change every 7 years, which accounts for the change in taste as we mature.

Allison, that sounds like twinkies. Apparently, roaches and twinkies will be the only thing left if the world were to end.

message 3462: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) JACKIE! You've never had a zebra cake? lol

http://www.littledebbie.com/products/...

message 3463: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I like Little Debbie Fudge Rounds. They are flat round cakes with a chocolate mousse layered between two of them, and then drizzled across with a fudge. Very Good.

I used to like those wafers you are talking about, if they come in pink, white, and brown. I hate them now. They are like cardboard layered with Crisco!

message 3464: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Yes, Jackie. That's exactly what I mean. You would hope the vet that prescribed the meds would have suggested that. If it comes out that he did not, he owuld also be part to blame. Obviously she loves the animal, and it's very easy to ignore or justify bad behaviour in those we love. As a vet he should have known that and made it very, very clear to her just what the dangers were. Not that she would have listened, obviously.

message 3465: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) No, I don't even think I've seen zebra cakes before. I've had something similar though from Little Debbie. It probably all taste the same with all the chemicals they pump into their products. LOL

message 3466: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Of course, you're right, but she obviously made that decision years and years ago. You would think if she really loved him, as she professed, she would have been a bit more concerned with HIS welfare.

It's kind of along the same lines as when people have children that they don't care for. Children do not arrive, mysteriously, out of the blue, on your doorstep. There are a series of decisions along the road to making them. Take responsibility!!!!

message 3467: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) veeeeery true.

message 3468: by Kandice (new)

Kandice So what are YOU having for lunch Allison?

message 3469: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) What I hate though is that the owner is now trying to justify his behavior. He had Xanax, he had Lyme disease, the friend showed up in a different car, she had a shorter hair cut, etc. etc. There are all excuses! You're right Kandice...there was a lack of responsibility in this situation.

message 3470: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) what did I have for lunch?

dry Life cereal :( That is all I could find this morning...BOY do I need to go to the grocery store. Actually, I think I'll just make enough dinner tonight to have leftovers for lunch tomorrow...haha.

message 3471: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) My hubby is out with the guys tonight...so I'm trying to decide whether I should be good and grab food from Subway...or just screw it and to go Taco Bell. haha. Suggestions?

message 3472: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Mmmmmm....Taco Bell would be my choice. Only because I reserve Subway for lunch only.

message 3473: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I like Mexican Pizzas with sour cream from Taco Bell. From Subway, I like the spicy Italian, on oregano parmesan bread with everything except onions. You have to watch them though. Even when you say EVERYTHING, they try to leave off the cucumbers, spinach and carrots. I don't let them!

message 3474: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Fiona-If you mean appetizers by starter food, me too! Sometimes if I take my children to dinner without their dad, we'll just order lots of appetizers and share around. We call them "Practice Food".

message 3475: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) mmmm....tasty :-)

message 3476: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hehe...I worked at Subway for 4 years all through high school. I know what those crazy characters try to pull.

message 3477: by Kandice (last edited Feb 19, 2009 02:04PM) (new)

Kandice I know what you mean about the legs. Not only is it a little gross, but it's hard to get them off perfectly unless you really get your hands dirty!

Do you know what crawdads are? They are a bit like very small, freshwater lobster. Anyway I love then, but they are cooked whole and you have to pull off the heads and pull out the tail, and then sort of suck the rest out. Sounds nasty (looks nasty too, according to my husband) but well worth it.

message 3478: by Allison (last edited Feb 19, 2009 02:12PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Rachel...I actually have a cousin that has that problem too. There is some chemical on their skin that gets cooked off that she is allergic to (she found this out from her doctor, who said it is somewhat common).

She says common...I just think you're freaks.

Just kidding! But I am glad that it doesn't stop you from eating them. I love shrimp!

message 3479: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm happy to say I do not know of any allergies. It would really suck to suddenly find out you were allergic to something you liked.

It's probably nice for you that you can't shell them, Rachel, as that's the un-fun part!

message 3480: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I like salmon too. It's so pretty and pink, (usually) not at all bony, and flakes so nicely. I think it's also the only fish (other than shrimp or crab, but I don't think of them as fish really) that I like in salads. There's a restaraunt I like and they make a salmon salad with chopped egg, artichoke hearts, olives and this perfect lemon dill dressing. Oh and feta cheese. It's called the Harvester Salad

message 3481: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah. artichokes make me want to puke. :-)

message 3482: by Kandice (last edited Feb 19, 2009 02:18PM) (new)

Kandice You guys are the freaks!

I am on page 267. She has just gone to London after the "Simon" incident. I am being cryptic because I don't know where Allison is.

message 3483: by Allison (last edited Feb 19, 2009 02:19PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Allison finished it. :-)

Spoil away!

message 3484: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh! It's just a bit after she smooched Simon. What the heck is that all about? It's a part that's irritating me.
Also, I can't seem to wrap my mind around Stephen in that Leda chicks world. He does not belong there! I like the sweet little guy. He reminded me of Wesley in the Princess Bride.

"As you wish"

message 3485: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Stephen is just...perfect. I want to bop Cassandra on the head with something heavy...how could she allow him to go off with stupid Leda?!?

message 3486: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have to finish this book tonight. We are going away this weekend and I want to start something new. I always like to take a bubble bath in the hotel and read until the water gets cold. I usually cheat and add more hot so I can read longer. It's not MY water bill, right?

message 3487: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) haha, I do that all the time! But since I live in a "caravan park" our water bill is paid by the park.

message 3488: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Did he remind you guys a bit of Wesley? He was so unassuming with Cassandra. As if he felt their love was inevitable.

message 3489: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Eh, to me that is a bullheaded man thing.

Wesley and Stephen are just sweet enough to pull it off. :-)

message 3490: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I think Cary Elwes was gorgeous in that movie. It had to be the part, though, because he isn't really my type. I love that movie and never grow tired of it.

message 3491: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I sent you a message Fiona!

This weekend is Darby's first traveling soccer tournament of the season. We are going to Ventura Ca. It's about 3 hours away. It was supposed to be our whole family, but tommorrow is our wedding anniversary. Our friend's sort of pooled together, )behind our backs. I love them too)have Brady staying with some friends for the weekend. Shaun is staying home because his media teacher is allowing him to borrow some incredibly expensive equipment to film "The Battle of the Bands", so a friend is driving and picking him up from all the places he needs to be. Another friend is driving Darby up to Ventura with them (their daughter is on the team) and she is sleeping in their room tommorrow night. We HAVE to got to the tournament, but everyone made sure we get at least tomorrow night alone. How sweet is that?

message 3492: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) My husband travels a lot...almost every Friday night when he is gone I take a long bubble bath and then shower off, then dry my hair and put on PJs and get into bed...all with a book (minus the shower of course)

Best of both worlds!

message 3493: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I love to read in the bath, but I shower before I get out. It seems like you can't possibly get clean in the same water you were dirty in a few minutes ago. Plus, you can't wash and rinse your hair!

message 3494: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) exactly.

I have a separate shower/bath...so I have a cold dash to the shower when I get out!

message 3495: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My husband doesn't travel often, (without us) but I relish the few times a year that he does! There's such a different feeling in the house. I try to remember what it was like before we had children and alone was really alone, not just the only adult!

message 3496: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) beats dying.

message 3497: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) :-)

...not that I think you're dying, I'm just saying.

message 3498: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) UGH! No cancer for Fiona. You just aren't reading enough.

message 3499: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Hey, we used to have a separate shower than bath, and I loved it. Now we have one, count 'em, one bathroom to share between 5 people! Our house is very old, and apparently, people didn't tinkle as much back then, or something?

It's too funny how adding "I'm just saying..." makes almost anything funny!

message 3500: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Don't even mention meningitis. When Brady was in the hospital, it took almost 5 weeks to get a diagnosis. He had 5 spinals and meningitis and encephalitis was all we heard all day!

Migraine Fiona. Migraine. TMJ. Crick in the neck. Something innocuous.
