Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Kandice, you would pronounce it kind of like uhm depnds how you say this one but Gene, all e's forward and not like in french with the accent to the left.... and with some english pronunciation. It surprises me how well and immediate Irish say it correct.

Kandice I had never anticipted how hard it would be to name one's children! My favorite part of any new pet is naming it, but a child...It has to mean something, you have to be able to say it tenderly, (and yell it in anger!) it can't have any goofy nicknames, everyone feels they should have a say.... It was SOOOOO hard to name our children. Did you have a hard time at all?

message 3303: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My husband is Vincent John, same as his dad. He HATED it growing up, because he has always been "Little Vinny" even though he is a foot taller than his dad. Of course he told me right away he would never name a child after himself. I don't like it either. Well, when we named our first son, my in-laws were so incredibly hurt because Vinny had never told them how much he disliked the "Little". It HAD to be my fault!
We redeemed ourselves a bit when we named our second son Brady. That was my husband's grandmother's maiden name and she had no living relatives, so...
My daughter was named by her brother and we all love it, but I just remember how agonizing it was to finally decide.
Have you decided oneis enough, or is two just not an option?

message 3304: by Kandice (last edited Feb 18, 2009 12:20PM) (new)

Kandice I wanted mine close together for exactly that reason. I had numerous miscarriages, so they weren't exactly when planned, but even if I could have another now, I don't think I would be quite willing to give up our "new" semi, and occasional freedom as our children mature.

Just think, someday you may have a grandchild you can spoil and send home;)

message 3305: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I thought you couldn't have a cat? Or is that just dogs? You saying that mkes me think of that painting by Reynolds. It's such a cute picture, don't you think?

message 3306: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Does malt mean shed? Make sure you get a shorthaired dog. I have two dogs, and I love, love, love them.

We always used to have cats too, but Brady got cat scratch disease that turned into Encephalitis and kept him hospitalised for over a month. So, now...no cats.

message 3307: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Maybe it would get better with constant exposure?

I know a lot of people have animal allergies, but I just can't imagine it! We have always had so many kinds of pets it would be really hard to imagine life without them. Will your parents not allow a pet at their house?

message 3308: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I do! Do you really put all kinds of stuff on one forkful? My husband does, and even though I've gotten used to it, I was taught it was incredibly rude. I was also taught you only cut the next bite you put in your mouth. My husband cuts his whole steak, or whatever, up before he eats it and it DRIVES ME INSANE!

message 3309: by Kandice (new)

Kandice What's the difference between hair and fur? And how do you get a dog to have hair as opposed to fur? Gene manipulation or something? I definitely have hair, but sometimes... I shed. Haha!

message 3310: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Wouldn't you like to see a "wild" poodle? Or a chihuahua? I know a lot of dog species are a result of breeding, but they came from SOMEWHERE, right? I'd like to have seen them running around in their natural state. Unclipped and ungroomed!

message 3311: by Kandice (new)

Kandice That dog doesn't look real! It looks like a stuffed animal from Build a Bear. It's adorable.

You know fox have smelly poop how? I used to have a ferret. He was black and gorgeous, and by far my favorite pet. I don't like the light ones with pink eyes. I'd like to have a chinchilla someday. They're lovely too.

message 3312: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Toe or heel?

message 3313: by Kandice (new)

Kandice When you said "clamming" on "lists", did you mean clam digging?

message 3314: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I hate the feel of a toe hole! I am pretty hard on socks for some reason. I end up buying new ones a lot, but feel so bad to throw out the old ones!

As far as clamming goes, is it everywhere? Just your family, new situations? You seem so open here. I know I am very different on GR. Do you get embarassed or just feel you have nothing to say?

message 3315: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I always have heel holes :( I wear my socks out pretty quickly because I'm always running around at work, and I walk the dog all the time...

message 3316: by Allison (last edited Feb 18, 2009 01:38PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) haha...its hard to imagine a quiet Fiona when we're so used to pushy Fiona.

I'm a lot different on here, too. I know I'm surrounded by book nerds, so I let my dork flag fly.

I always feel like I'm super abrupt with people I don't like, but like you said-why waste breath on people you don't care for?

message 3317: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hahaha...I think that might be my problem! SOMETIMES...I can be kind of a literary snob with people that don't read...like I just assume we'll have nothing in common, not that I think I'm better then them (although what kind of idiot doesn't read?)

I go all gushy and hyper when I meet people that I hit it off with okay that read a lot...I think thats why I love being on here so much, ever since my husband and I moved to Kansas...I haven't met anyone much that reads or anything. Its kind of a bummer.

message 3318: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) in fact...the only girl I DO know that reads only reads books that are going to be made into movies.

actually, she borrowed Confessions of a Shopaholic from me, and I need to get that back...haha.

message 3319: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am the opposite. I am always very, very polite. I think I am the only person in our building on a first name basis with the maids and maintenance people. They always smile at me, and even if it's not true, I think they vacuum my office better than everyone else's.
When I'm driving, my husband teases me because if someone cuts me off, I have a ready made excuse in my head for them. I never get mad, I just think they are late, or on the way to the hospital.
I walk around with rose colored glasses accroding to my mom, and wear my feelings right there on my sleeve!
I am certainly a dork, or a geek! I like the things my kids like, and never seemed to grow up about a lot of things. That's one of the best things about this site. Because EVERYONE is different, I don't feel odd. We ALL ARE;)
I bet you made a good impression at your interview Fiona, If that's what you are worrying about. People in charge of interviews are supposed to be good at getting a "read" on you, despite you not pushing yourself on them.

message 3320: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) aww Kandice, you sound so sweet I want to give you a hug! haha.

Yeah, I'm courteous to people...I don't walk around kicking shins and knocking heads or anything. I'm just wary of being open...AND, unlike you Kandice-I have horrible road rage :-)

message 3321: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) lol, one word I would never use to describe you Fiona, is "dud"

message 3322: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am seriously afraid my husband may get into trouble driving some day! He honks at people, or he will get in front of someone that cut him off and drive slower... it's awful! He's not like that in life, but get him behind the wheel of a car...

None of my real friends are readers. Some say they are, but they read a couple of books a year, and to me, that's just not enough! Before this sight, there were times I literally felt like crying because I enjoyed or hated a book so much and there was no one to talk it over with. Now, I can at least read other peoples reviews. Plus, I'm always up for reading whatever people will be willing to discuss! It's such a heady pleadure after so many lonely reading years!!!! (see...dork!)
(and thanks)

message 3323: by Kandice (last edited Feb 18, 2009 01:57PM) (new)

Kandice Fiona-You said "normans"!!!!! I think you meant morons!!! You are such a crack up. I find it very hard to imgine you with a dud expresionless face! You write so animated!!!! Plus, you are always telling us you type just like you speak. I bet you're a little spit-fire.
At least if you get run over you'll be close to help.

message 3324: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hahaha Fiona, roundabouts are my worst nightmare. Luckily, there aren't many in the US...not anything like over there.

Kandice, I know what you mean! I think thats why my TBR list is so out of control, now that I'm finally with a lot of other readers, its hard to control myself. (see...another dork!)

:-)

message 3325: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I just averaged the days since this thread was reated, and the number of posts. It's an average of about 30 a day, but obviously much more, here recently;) I think when we get to 200 pages we should start a new one.

message 3326: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, probably. we have far too many random thoughts.

message 3327: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Do you like pulp? I HATE it...but I love OJ w/o it.

message 3328: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Hey, you never answered post 4996. About eating.

I don't like numbers very much either, but if we managed 2739 posts a day, it would take 1 year. 1370 a day, 2 years. 684 a day, 4 years.

message 3329: by Kandice (new)

Kandice What's secret blog? I love pulp you weirdo;)

message 3330: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) *head strain*

whoa...too many #s for a reading thread.

haha...I HATE math.

message 3331: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) wait...forks? knives? We only use those on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We eat with our hands the rest of the time. Doesn't everyone?

lol...well, we'd use a lot less dishes that way if it were true!

message 3332: by Kandice (new)

Kandice It's funny you put it that way, because I always think of the English as so much better mannered. That could be due to the fact that you have royalty, though. I always imagine you guys dress better, or at least have more style. Pretty much any Europeans. I also imagine your food would be exciting. Especially as it seems everyone there uses china and silver. Especially for tea. Which I NOW know is not a snck, but an actual meal!

message 3333: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I hate my cat. You want him, Fiona? It might do the beastly thing good to be shipped overseas.

message 3334: by Kandice (last edited Feb 18, 2009 02:14PM) (new)

Kandice Aaahh.. and look how quick you did that! I really, really tried yesterday to post that picture! When I got home, I asked my Shaun and it took him waaaaaay longer to find a usable print than to post it. He gave me an open invitation. He says he'll put any pictures on I want, I just have to ask.
AGAIN- I Highly recommend a son to EVERYONE!!!!

message 3335: by Kandice (last edited Feb 18, 2009 02:14PM) (new)

Kandice When we had cats, we had one named Hello Kitty that Darby would dress up all the time. I wouldn't really say the cat enjoyed it, but she never complained, and she looked soooo cute in Darby's little stroller.

message 3336: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) My cat is cute as can be...he just sleeps all day, and then wakes up in the middle of the night, and runs through the house absolutely BELLOWING. I want to throw the thing out the window.

message 3337: by Kandice (last edited Feb 18, 2009 02:20PM) (new)

Kandice The best cats, in my opinion, are the ones at the shelter. They are so forlorn, and seem so genuinely happy to have a home. Or when little kids have a cardboard box and are trying to give away kittens? Those are second best. I really miss having cats. My mom has a lot of cats. She tends to adopt pitiful ones. She has one that's missing a hind leg. Her name is Eileen (get it?). It makes my mother-in-law mad, because HER name is Eileen. I can't help but laugh every time my mom says it!

message 3338: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) our cat was rescued from the shelter. *grumbles*

oh well, at least he is cute :-)

It really is heartbreaking to see mistreated cats, as much as I hate Baxter...I would never actually hurt him. I do NOT understand people that can hurt animals.

My precious, adorable, perfect dog (a Jack Russell like Wishbone in my picture) was rescued from a shelter, she was abused before we got her...her ear is all crooked because someone broke it! Can you imagine? I just want to cry everytime I think about it.

message 3339: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ha ha!!!! That's sure right. My daughter didn't sleep through the night until she was about 3, so think long and hard.... On a nicer note, my first slept through the night before I had to go back to work. Perfect child!

message 3340: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My mother stole a dog that was to be used in a fight in Mexico once! They caught her and she was arrested. My dad fixed it all up and she ended up getting to keep the dog.

message 3341: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) LOL-not for awhile! Kids make me crazy.

I am possibly the most impatient person in the world. In fact, that is probably how I read so fast. I have been reading Lady Audley's secret for 3 days and I'm about to poke my eyes out from impatience to finish because I feel like its been forever since I started it.

message 3342: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm patient. I actually will stall sometimes at the end of a book I am really loving, because I can't bear to be finished with it!

message 3343: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I DID NOT get my Lush stuff. I can't believe I forgot. I'll need to look up my order # and ck because that was a long time ago. Thank you for reminding me! Plus, part of why I was so excited was to get the br soap for travel soccer. This weekend is our first weekend away and I wont have bar shampoo! WAAAAAHHH...

I love ICTC. Thank you for posting the picture of the actress that plays Cassandra. I see her face now, and I like that. I'm thinking I will try to get my daughter to read it. She's pretty reluctant to read anything she considers adult, though.

message 3344: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I just broke a rubber band and it hurt my hand.

ouch. stupid mail.

message 3345: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm very excited to go home in half an hour.

stupid work.

message 3346: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) but then I have instrument practice at church an hour and a half after that.

stupid church band.

message 3347: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) then I WILL be finishing Lady Audley tonight or I'll keel over from annoyance.

stupid book.

message 3348: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) no more complaining now!

message 3349: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) oooooo I wanna see Stephen!!

message 3350: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) aww, he is cute! I've seen him in something else I think...

...I'm just complaining to fill up comments so we can get to 5100 :-)
