Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Dublin busses keep surprising me. They are known to be really crap and jsut pass whenever they do. mostly much too late. My record in normal weather is 45 minutes while it should pass every 20 minutes. But then sometimes....It was perfectly on time tonight and i got home around 5.30!!!!! That is unbelievable coming back from work in less than an hour!!!! but I loved it and there was still light, it is changing little by little.

message 3203: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh, about the changing work hours...crazy ones. In the morning we got an e-mail reminding us to come at 7.30 instead of 8.15 tomorrow.....then at 1.30pm we get an e-mail telling us that they suspended the changes for now and we can come on normal hours!!!!! They might have thought about that a bit more seriously before making me crazy and look for a way to come on time!!!!!!! You know what my second thought was? I will be able to ask the lady on the morning bus what hse thinks about The loop!!!! I recommended it and she would read it in the weekend. This morning the first thing I did when I saw was giving her a small paper where i had jsut before at the bus stop written all the books written by Nicholas Evans (including the one that is not int he shop yet) plus recommended strongly Prodigal summer and told her that even though I haven't read it eyt many people was thinking about all of you) say that The secret life of bees is very good. I am crazy!!!!

message 3204: by Barb H (new)

Barb H (barbhh) I'm fairly new to GOODREADS, so I am surprised to see that people have veered off from books and communicate personal stories via this medium. Why don't you just email each other?

Laura (apenandzen) Kandice wrote: "Ha ha ha!!!! My mind is in the gutter.

Kandice - you are about to unseat me as Queen of the Gutter !!

:)

message 3206: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) No chamber pots. I am being good. No more Outlander, so back to good little me....

How are you doing Fiona? What's new in your world?

message 3207: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) The Loop right?

Are people still "placing poo on the toilet, not in"?

hee hee you make me laugh Fiona !

(I know I'm a bloody rotter !! )

ha!

message 3208: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Will do! Why do they flush the tea? Maybe it's like the British version of the Boston Tea Party.

I've gotta get to sleep - Whiskey Sour (a book) kept me up for hours last night, and it was supposed to lull me back to sleep. Wrong mystery for that!!

Good book tho. Tell your mum about it Fiona.

message 3209: by Laura (last edited Feb 12, 2009 05:43PM) (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I don't watch CSI.

Wow. Wow. Hmm... I don't know about that froggy bookmark then. Well if I was from England I might be that way too. I prefer reading books set in England 1/2 the time. But you gotta try our stuff before you decide YUK IMO. I don't mean you, I mean your mum. This one is called Whiskey Sour, and it's a little intense in spots. Not your cozy US mystery, that's for sure. Funny, but yet intense and kind of creepy and also gross at times.

message 3210: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Doesn't she? She is a hoot. I love it when she goes off on one of her tangents. Even when she's right, its still so funny.

message 3211: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Montana IS lovely. You can see forever, and the skies are beautiful. I have a girlfriend who owns 50 acres there and she and her husband go there a month every summer to work on their retirement home there. It's a lovely dream.

Thank you Fiona, for defending our rights to wander off topic!!!! Where do these people come from??

message 3212: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I think I will have the flue or at least it is trying to come to me. I didn't sleep ebcause I was warm and cold and my body ached. My skin also feels irritated, like ti does when I am ill. I am at work and I feel warm and cold, have a little bit a blury vision..... but I wanna take my boyfriend to Howth tomorrow or walk at the seaside and have lunch in our irish pub.... At least it si friday and only another 2.20 minutesd to work. then I am going home, take a bath if I still feel like it, cup of tea and relax.

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments it isn't easy to sit at a computer and work when your fingers hurt, you hands, legs well your whole body...

message 3214: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Hope you feel better before Vtines Jeane! Curl up in bed w/a book!

message 3215: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Rachel wrote: "So I am reading this book, "Blood Sucking Fiends." Have any of you read it? It is awesome."

I love Christopher Moore. He has the wackiest sense of humor. Is this the first time you've read him?

Jeane, I hope you get some rest and feel better.

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Jeane, I hope you get to feeling better very soon. Rest as much as you can.

message 3217: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Wow. For someone new to Goodreads, I'm surprised they made such a rude comment about everyone not just talking about books! Hopefully once she lurks around for a bit, she'll get into the groove of things.

And I REALLY hope she doesn't stumble onto the Outlander thread. That will scare her away...

message 3218: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) LOL Allison!

message 3219: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Yeah, that Outlander thread is pretty bad. hehehe!

message 3220: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) from sex...to chamber pots...to sex IN a chamber pot...

message 3221: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hehe, we're so mature.

message 3222: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Well, I don't even have a good excuse...but here I am on GR while my desk is covered in what I should really be doing instead.

Oh wait, I do this everyday. hahaha.

TGIF.

message 3223: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I've perfected my toggling technique thanks to GR. Seriously though, GR helps me get through the day. I like my co-workers, but they can get too personal and gossipy so I try to minimize my interaction with them. GR allows me to have interesting convo without the worry.

message 3224: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) My husband and my friends here (we just moved here a year and a half ago so I don't have many close friends here) don't read AT ALL...and reading is such a huge part of my life that I don't really feel connected to people much...so I LOVE being on here so I can be myself.

I sound so pathetic, haha. I really do have friends! I'm just a homebody, I guess.

message 3225: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Allison, I'm a bit of a homebody myself so I understand. My best friend reads, but she has two kids now so she doesn't read as much. My boyfriend also reads, but it's mostly non-fiction. We have really interesting conversations, but I can't really talk about fictional books with him because he doesn't get it. =/

Heather, if I could work from home I would jump at the chance. Sometimes it gets really vicious around here over small things. Thankfully, my sister works in the same office so I can talk to her freely, but that's about it.

message 3226: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments thanks everyone. Still feel bad. Jsut came home from work, taking a Lemsip and the bath is running. Bathroom won't be really warm but after that I am preparing myself a cup of tea.

message 3227: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) aww Jeane, get to feeling better! Maybe if you can take a bath and have some tea you'll relax and be able to sleep for awhile and wake up feeling better!

message 3228: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments the carrot cake is in the centre waiting for to have as breakfast tomorrow..... I took a warm shower and going to drink a cup of tea but start to feel sooo tired..... Probably going to lay on the bed a bit.

message 3229: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments okay, drank a cup of tea, read about Jonathan Strange and fell asleep aparently ebcause my boyfriend got home and I woke up. Now I feel dizzy and like a zombie.....

message 3233: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Rachel-Do you have any exciting Valentine's Day plans? You're at work now, right?

message 3234: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I feel so tired but I know there is a good possibility that if I go to bed now I will wake up in te middle of the night.... adn reading makes it worse...

message 3235: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I have added no less than 5 books just today, myself! Totally nuts.

I did make a "get from library" shelf though, so now you don't have to scold me for adding to my TBR shelf! :-)

message 3236: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My youngest son's birthday is Sunday, and my husband is taking him and a few of his friend's to Knott's for the day, so we have to do cake and icecream tommorrow. I thought we were just going to blow Valentine's off, but he made reservations at a steak house for us tonight. No kids! I'm excited.

message 3237: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I know there will be presents. We always get each each other SOMETHING, but he's a firm believer that the holiday is more about girls than men. He gets our daughter something, but not the boys. They don't care.
I lost one of the diamond's in my wedding ring almost a year ago. I've been wearing a different ring he bought me instead, and just kept putting of getting it fixed. My MIL is a firm believer in trading rings up as you go. I AM NOT! My ring "mysteriously" disapeared 3 weeks ago, and when I freaked out, my husband said "Oh it will turn up". SO I KNOW he took it. I'm afraid he is going to change it or "trade it up", but I have made it very clear I don't want that.
He was attending college full time and working only 16 hours a week at Target when he bought it. I don't care how small it is, it's mine and he gave it to me with his heart. I have been really stressed about it, and can't wait to just see what he did.
The bummer is, that our anniversary is the 20th, so I may not find out until then! AARRRGH!

message 3238: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Fiona-Your post made me remember something I was going to post in the Watership Down thread. I love that book, and have read it lots of times since I read it first at 11. I never knew what a down was!!!! I was too embarassed to ask anyone, never remembered to look it up, and never realized it meant "hill" or something like that until you posted those pictures on that thread!!!!

message 3239: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh Rachel! Somehow, I missed that when I posted about downs. You are just the best!!!!! *gushes with gratitude*

message 3240: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ummm...Fiona-I actually figured there was a shipwreck somewhere near there, hence the name! It is definitely an English word!

message 3241: by Kandice (new)

Kandice LFMAO????????????

And I didn't think the rabbits were shipwrecked! I kind of imagined the hull of a wrecked ship, just sort of laying on the grass. I never understood how it could have gotten there!

I have an idea for a discussion!!! Oooh! I think I will post it.

message 3242: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I haven't decided. I am trying to word it carefully so people will actually be interested. You'll see it!

Fiona I sometimes have that too!!! It is hateful but lovely too.

message 3244: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I think I feel better. Took the lemisp before going to bed, slept really welll and even though I ma not 100% I think I will go to the centre (if nothing changes) and give my boyfriend the special breakfast. If I manage that i have to decide if we make the trip to HOwth or a walk at Dublin beach...am curious about that because haven't been there yet. Will take the vitamine c tablet later too.

Fiona: I've been to Montana. It's very beautiful. Most of the Western states are beautiful. I'd love to live in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, California. I've lived in Utah and Nevada and loved it. Beautiful peaceful country.

message 3246: by [deleted user] (new)

when I moved to Illinois I was told I have an accent. Most of the Western states have the same type of accent. Not really country like a Texas accent more like ...I don't know how to describe it.

Fiona: I'll send you some cheetos. If you love cheese you'll love these things.

I so want to visit England. Most of my ancestors were from England.

My son and I went and saw Sweeney Todd last night. The Highschool was putting it on my daughter is stage crew. They did a great job. It was nice to go to the theatre. I wish they did more than three a year however.

I still love Helen Bonham Carter in the recent Sweeney Todd. She did a great job.
