Kandice It feels a little swollen, but it doesn't look it at all. I took a shower and blew it in there, so I wouldn't have to hold my nose with the tissue. Gross, I know, but felt safer.
It's really pretty (I think). It's just a tiny diamond on a platinum post. There's no back, they just bend it in there so it doesn't come out. I owuld be too afraid of the permancy of a tatoo, but this...if I decide I don't like it, I can just take it out and it will close up.

Congrats on the nose piercing! Don't blow too hard and place your finger (have a tissue wrapped around it) when you do so it doesn't fly out. My sorority sister has one and I asked her about this before. She said if she blew too hard it would come out. If she had a really bad cold then she would take it out for a bit and put it back in.

message 3103: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Thanks Jackie. That's what I am afraid of. That I will get a cold right now before it heals.

message 3104: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I usually use echinacea when I feel the sniffles coming on and it prevents any colds. I've been using it since college and have yet to get a real cold.

message 3105: by Kandice (new)

Kandice According to the nurse last night it can takeup to 4 weeks before it's really healed. I don't even know what that means. It doesn't hurt, it's not bleeding or scabbed, so what kind of healing does it need?

You had it done anyway??????

message 3107: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I didn't mean the nose piercing was yucky, I meant the tatoos! Needles are scary, and the bigger the tatoo, the longer the needle is poking oyu. Plus, who wants to look they are sewn up permanently!?

The only mirrors in my house are the bathroom, and my daughters room. I keep finding reasons to walk by them to glance at my nose!!!! I feel so concieted.

message 3108: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Those tattoos are just yucky!

I have looked and looked. I don't want flowers or dolphins but I want something pretty. I love space but can't find anything suitable.
I did think of getting a wedding ring tattoo but then I wear my wedding ring all the time so that would be pointless.
I'll probably get an anklet tattoo with something 'dangling' from it on my foot.

I like this guy's work but am not brave enough. One of my faves is the first in the abstract category.

it was a title of an article and had to think about you. But know that I am sharing in it too. It was all iced this mornign and very cold. It doesn't seem to change outside today.

message 3110: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) YUK YUK YUK!

I'm eating my cereal. Bad idea!

I don't know how you guys do all the piercings and tats. I could never do it. I would sooner just have someone shoot me. At least then it would be over.

YUK!

message 3111: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I DID NOT get a tatoo. I got a very small gem in my nose! I am way too much of a chicken for a tatoo. I will say, those scars are gorgeous. I like the way they look much better than most tatoos. (not all) I only did it, because if I really hate it, I just take it out and it closes up. A tatoo is (almost always) forever! At some point in the night, I must have scratched or rubbed my nose. There was blood on my face, but it doesn't hurt and isn't swollenor anything. Weird!
Thank God I have not developed the sniffles. That's my biggest fear.

message 3112: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I have my ears pierced. I'm a rebel.

LOL...maybe the word I'm looking for is wuss.

message 3113: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Allison- HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

message 3114: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Me too Allison me too!

I had to eventually let my ears close up, as it turned my stomach just to keep turning the posts.

message 3115: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have a high pain threshhold too. I also did natural childbirth, cut my babies cord, watched everything in a mirror, all that, however, I can't stand to see ANYTHING done to my children. I almost faint when they have a shot. Totally silly, but true.

I couldn't do the tatoo thing because of the needles. I literally mean the needles, not the pain. Just the idea of repeatedly putting that in my skin... ooohhhh. Couldn't do it. NO way. You are much braver than I could be.

message 3116: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Haha! My husband is a VERY large man. I remember the nurse telling him to "SIT DOWN! If you pass out I can't drag you out of the way Big boy!" He cut the cord of our first child, but almost lost his stomach doing it, so just sort of hovered in the background for the other 2. I thought cutting their cords myself was so... I don't know, symbolic?
My oldest son was my Lamaze coach for my 3rd child. He was infinitely better than his dad. He went to every appt. with me. Was shocked or disgusted by nothing, and had actually begged to be allowed to participate. My OBGYN had a long, behind closed door, conversation with him at my first check-up, and told my husband and I he thought he should be allowed. I am so glad he was.

message 3117: by Kandice (new)

Kandice 4 hours? You brat!!!! My third child, which by rights should have been my quickest...
I started labor Saturday morning, about 7 a.m. She was born Tuesday 12:47 a.m.
That is unfair!!!!
I am actually pretty private too, hence the whole "doctor discussion" thing for Shaun. I was againsthim even being there, but my Dr. convinced me he was mature enough and was able to discuss it inteliigently, so... I'm glad we did it.

message 3118: by Kandice (new)

Kandice But what's 3 days when I get to enjoy her the rest of my life? Also, that was partly my fault. I could have had drugs to speed things along. I just didn't accept them.
My mother-in-law remebers this of both her labor and deliveries: She had a a backache. Went to the hospital. Was given copious amounts of lovely drugs. Woke up to a beautiful baby.

You could always go that route;)

message 3119: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Haha! But YOU wont have to have the kittens. Think of that poor kitty, doing what you are unwilling to do....I don't find it surprising your mom did that. I think a bit of suffering at the beginning of parenthood allows you take it a bit better down the road.

message 3120: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Great points! Babies are only cute to their parents for the first few days. Baby animals, on the other hand, are born perfect!

message 3121: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Teenage girls are hell, I repeat hell. I'm glad I have only one child to give to my country.

I went natural, and sometimes the needle thing on the paper showing the labor pains went off the sheet and I couldn't even feel it. The nurse looked at me like I was an alien life form.

message 3122: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My father in law kept looking at that frickin' paper and making comments like "That shouldn't hurt. That was a tiny blip. There's more where that came from..." and all kinds of other interesting tid bits. I wanted to KILL him. Of course, because I am me, he never knew!

message 3123: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) He'd be a dead man Kandice. I wouldn't have wanted any man other than my husband anywhere around me in that delivery room I can tell you!

message 3124: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh, they didn't stay once I was "exposed" in any way, but between him, my dad, and the 12 or 14 other people that felt they had every reason to be there...I DID want to kill a few of them.

message 3125: by [deleted user] (new)

291 post. Don't think I am catching up.

message 3126: by [deleted user] (new)

Good News however! I have successfully completed reading Moby Dick! Yeah! It wasn't too bad.

message 3127: by [deleted user] (new)

Saw the delevery room talk. Yeah my brother in law tried to stay in the room. I told him I would kill him if he didn't leave and my mother nicely pushed him out the door.

message 3128: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to let my kids use the computer for home work. Darn. Really wanted to chat. I guess I'll go read for a bit!

message 3129: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) congratulations on finishing MD Emilee! You're a braver woman than I am! I already avoided reading that once in H.S.

;)

I'm glad you're keeping up with your goal - did you get close to 100 books last year? The more time I hang around all you reading people on GR, the more I want to read, so 100 doesn't seem way beyond the realm anymore. I'm trying for it this year too. We'll see what happens.

message 3133: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Good luck Fiona! Chin up, it may be for the best. There's a reason for everything - is this anywhere near your friends that are sisters that work w/you now live?

message 3134: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Good luck Fiona! So, you would have to move if you got the job? That would terrify me! You are an adventurous soul ;)

message 3135: by Kandice (new)

Kandice A nice hiney too, huh? Just up and go there. Why creep your way up? If you are brave enough to go, DO IT!!!!

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Rachel said: Gratefully, I was only in labor for about 4 hours, so it wasn't so bad.

I know I'm way late in responding ..been working a lot lately..anyways I had natural childbirth too the first time. I was in labor for 3 days...no I'm not exagerating. LOL That was with my first 2 kids. The third came out in 18 hours...I thought that was pretty good compared to three days....hehe!!!

message 3137: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Jesus Christ was Jewish. Just thought I'd throw that out there!

Lisa-Join the club!!!!

message 3138: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Jews...Christians...we all eat, sleep and die.

Anybody know that song Live and Let Die? I love that song. I don't remember who sings it.

message 3139: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Paul McCartney and Wings, I think? Or maybe it's just the Beatles. I love that song too!
Don't forget, we all poop too! Hopefully not in a chamber pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 3140: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh! Thank you dear, sweet, thoughful Rachel!!

Hubba hubba:)

message 3141: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ha ha ha!!!! My mind is in the gutter.
To answer your question, no. He could nver be too big for me! Again with the gutter....

message 3142: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Okay, why oh why would anyone make a receptacle for waste out of wood? That is so gross! At least the china one is pretty, and one would hope, non absorbant!
I would guess lots of people are using chamber pots for things other than... well, ummm POOP!

message 3143: by [deleted user] (new)

Laura: I read 94 books last year over 200 if you count the one's I read to my son. But I'm not counting those. I would be over 30 if I counted the books I've read to him.

MD wasn't too bad just hard to read in the beginning. I was suprised at the end. I don't think I have known anyone who has read the whole thing other then Jeanne.

message 3144: by [deleted user] (new)

Jeane: I thought MD was okay really. Granted I wouldn't give it rave reviews I think I only gave it 2 or 3 stars. I won't ever read it again. I don't know why I bought it but maybe one of my children will read it.

Personally I think that if the facts about fish and mammals/whales were pulled out of the book it would have been shorter and more interesting. It only took about 2/3 to figure that much out. But all in all the story was interesting.

message 3145: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona Good luck on the interview! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

message 3146: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Rachel! That is horribly long labor. I so have so much sympathy for you!

My longest labors were my first and last both 12 hours. My middle one was only 5 hours.

message 3147: by [deleted user] (new)

Allison: Live & Let die is my new earworm!

message 3148: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona love the chamber pot! It is actually really nice. My parents are antique dealers and some of the chamber pots they have had were quite rustic. Very Western states settling type pots.

message 3149: by [deleted user] (new)

Great eye candy Rachel!
