GracieKat | 864 comments I'm hearing thunder outside. YAY! We need a good, warm rain to get those morels growing. Plus I love rainy days, yet another excuse to curl up with a book.
I just hope it stops by afternoon. Have to go to the "big" city about twenty miles away and I hate to drive in the rain with my son in the car. I get so paranoid.

message 7052: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (sherylmarasi) | 93 comments I hear you on that Grace. I prefer not to have my son in the car during rain storms, after 8 on a weekend or holiday night, and during rush hour traffic. But, it makes me more cautios, and I'm sure you too...so you'll be fine ;)

message 7053: by GracieKat (new)

GracieKat | 864 comments Rush hour is horrible. Especially around here where our road growth has not kept rate with our population growth.

my byfriend gets them often but he is so annoyed whenever I have it once in a while...

message 7055: by [deleted user] (new)

My son actually had the hiccups the other night when he was reading to me. I scared him. It totally scared the hiccups away but I made him cry. All I did was yell "Boo".

I am now laughing about it but he didn't like it much. I told him it stopped his hiccups!

When I was about 14, it was actually on July 4th at my Friends Grandpa's house I had the hiccups all day. Her whole family tried to scare them out of me. I tried drinking water while standing on my head. All of the old wives remedies. Nothing worked.

GracieKat | 864 comments Okay, I'm having a bit of a dilemma and I thought maybe you guys could help me. I'm going through my books, trying to thin them out. I found Madame Bovary and I can't decide whether or not to get rid of it. The fact that it's a classic gives me pause but on the other hand I hated it and probably won't read it again. It's not a special copy or anything, just picked up from a yard sale. I'm a compulsive book hoarder and don't know what to do. HELP!

message 7057: by GracieKat (new)

GracieKat | 864 comments Scratch that. I just realized that the copy that I have was printed in 1949 so I'll keep it just because it is fairly old.

message 7058: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I would tell you to DUMP IT!!!! no matter what, if you don't like it. lol.

I used to be a major hoarder, but I finally realized I don't have room to own every book in the world (wish I did!) so I have been really good lately about getting rid of books I'm not overly fond of.

message 7059: by GracieKat (new)

GracieKat | 864 comments Lol, same here. Swaptree and Bookmooch have really gotten me too thin out my library somewhat because I get new books to replace them.

message 7060: by [deleted user] (new)

I hoard books too Allison. But I did get rid of clockwork orange. I did not like that one.

message 7061: by [deleted user] (new)

I am so hoping that it doesn't rain today. I feel like mother nature is soaking us in wetness this spring.

The plus is that the grass and trees are very beautifully green but when am I going to mow my 10" long grass if it keeps raining? When is my son ever going to be able to have his ball games?

Rain please give me a little break!!! PLEASE>>>>>>

I will send it your way Grace!!!!

didn't realize until i saw your post, emilee, what day it was *sigh*

message 7067: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry Sherry. I should have posted sooner.

I let coupons expire all the time. I guess sometimes i don't need anything.

GracieKat | 864 comments It must have worked! It was very nice today! I have about 50 coupons in my purse that have far passed their expiration dates.

I would have found that hard to live with. I have to do two flights to get to the UK and that is a whole day without internet and I feel deprived. Flying back I come via Miami and there is a three hour layover so I pay $9.95 just to sit in the lounge on the internet. Do you think I am addicted?

It is hurricane season now and I dread it. I have tinned food, I have a cistern, my house is safe, I have a cell phone, I can recharge my laptop through my truck, but without current I can't get internet. If the wires blow down, I live in the LAST area of the island that will be fixed: no-one worries about rainforest villages with only 20 or so houses strung out over a mile or so. What will I do? Will I emigrate to another island or will I put a mattress on the floor of my shop in town and sleep there. I think you can guess what the answer is!!!

message 7082: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments LOL @ Petra...I'm not any better.... I would go nuts without the internet for a day.

message 7083: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) OK, I have a confession. You have to take this as if this were a meeting of Internet Addicts Anonymous, its that serious.

I had to go to hospital for a procedure and there had just been a hurricane, so no current. I checked into a hotel in the marina the day before the op, had the procedure and spent the next 5 days in the hotel until the area got current back. I told my husband that the clinic said I had to have access to a nurse (the manager's wife was a nurse which was why I used the excuse) simply so I could be somewhere with internet. I left the kid with the husband and I didn't feel guilty at all and I didn't think it was a waste of money either.

If you lived in a rainforest on a tiny island two and a half thousand miles away from the nearest mainland, you might go batty without internet too! There's only so many times a girl wants to sit on the beach under a coconut tree sipping a pina colada - unless she has internet on her laptop.

message 7086: by [deleted user] (new)

P that is so funny about your need for internet. I think I would do the same thing....

message 7087: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Tropical depression Ana tomorrow and maybe Hurricane Bill at the end of the week. Current gets turned off when the winds reach 50 mph. That means No Internet.

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Hi everyone!
I'm back from my fortnight in England.
Yes people gave me books, my mother bought me books, I bought me books and I bought my children books.
Unfortunately we were too busy sightseeing to get much reading done.
And of course I missed you all

Everywhere seems quiet when I'm on holiday that's why my nickname has always been chatterbox :0)

We went with only 49kg of our 80kg (4*20kg) allowance so we managed to bring all our purchases home with us except the crabbing net whose handle was too long :0(

I like laundry. I also like ironing. it lets you have an excuse for not doing 5th grade homework. I also like cookies.

I don't mind laundry. I find something soothing about sorting it into piles. I hate ironing so I just don't buy stuff that needs ironing. I haven't ironed for a couple of years.
I also hate dusting so I don't so that either.

How do you find your books? by their dust jackets hehehe

message 7096: by Queen (new)

message 7098: by Queen (new)

Queen | 74 comments Now that I noticed, Eric Bana played in the movie Troy. I liked that movie.

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Akittykat wrote: "How do you find your books? by their dust jackets hehehe .."

The ones on the shelves have more of a Siberian-style winter coat of dust rather than a jacket :0)
But I have run out of shelf room so I have piles all over the house. About once a month the piles start to wobble because they are too high or there are too many small books at the bottom so I rearrange them, dusting them in the process and figuring out what I must read next.
If a book on a shelf takes my fancy it is removed, dusted thoroughly with a damp cloth and placed on one of the piles.
I hate dusting but I love fondling books :0)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 166 comments For the sake of the argument, say Nostradamus wasn't full of bull shit and he really did identify 3 anti-Christs; why do people postulate that Hitler is one based on his murderous atrocities but Chairman Mao Zedong is never thrown into the debate? Is it that Hitler's ideology was more detrimental to society as a whole? But I might only be coming to that conclusion because I'm from the West.
