Lisa: Sometimes we just need a day to kick our feet up. However, you may want to have a nap or curl up with a good book. I can never function if I get up too early.

I have only seen our colleges production of Madame Butterfly but it was great. I do like the music of Carmen.

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Emilee wrote: "Fiona: how was Carmen? I have always wanted to see that Opera! I have several copies of the music and absolutely love it."

My favourite version of Carmen is the film with Placido.
I got into opera as a child. I used to watch with my Grandma - her favourite was 'Cav and Pag' which is actually two operas - Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci - which are frequently double billed.
When I was 5 this aria moved me to tears (I think this is actually the recording I saw). It still gives me chills.

I'll have to add that on my netflix list.

Thanks Esther!

I am spending way too much friggin time on the computer too --thats what hubby tells me.

message 6556: by [deleted user] (new)

Karen: it's fun and a nice break. Tell him to try then you'll never see your computer again.

message 6557: by [deleted user] (new)

GR is quicksand Fiona! You are so right!

message 6558: by [deleted user] (new)

Are we aiming for 20,000 in this thread????

message 6559: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes we do. So we better get going on that.

message 6560: by [deleted user] (new)

I should really make dinner for the family but yeah not to motivated right now.

I have been reading, GR & doing laundry today. Very productive day. I really don't want to go to work tomorrow.

message 6561: by [deleted user] (new)

Are they like groups similar to Ace of Base?

I don't think we have anything like that but We now have American Idol so I am sure it isn't too far behind.

message 6562: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay that looks too funny especially with angry twitty!

message 6563: by [deleted user] (new)

One thing I say "okay" and "like" excessively. I really need to try to find new words.

message 6564: by [deleted user] (new)

I am trying to remember the American Idol judges name that brought it to the US. It's not Paula or Randy. I can't believe I forgot his name. Actually I can because I think the show is daft and watched only a few episodes about 5 years ago. Done with that one.

message 6565: by [deleted user] (new)

Boof use to be in this thread a lot. I love learning about Britian. I hope to visit someday. My Great grandfather and Great Great Grandparents left Bradford in 1923. I kinda wish they had stayed there. I know I'm weird I just love everything GB!

message 6566: by [deleted user] (new)

Most of my fav authors are from GB too.

message 6567: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Simon. Thank you that was going to bug the whatever out of me all night.

I can't stand reality TV. It seems like that is the only thing even on anymore. I guess that is why my TV is never on anymore. Actually I turn it on to watch my netflix movies or play the Wii. other then that no shows for me.

message 6568: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually will have to see if I can find it. Sounds entertaining.

message 6569: by [deleted user] (new)

On PBS yes. Actually PBS has a few nights a week with shows from the BBC. I love it. One of my favorite shows that isn't on anymore was Are you Being Served. I got my brother hooked on it. It was great about 10-15 years ago they also showed the flying circus after it.

message 6570: by [deleted user] (new)

my computer doesn't like me much. I have defrag'd it in a while so it was doing wierd stuff. so I'm defrag'ng it now. Yeah doesn't like me goofing on internet while that is being done. So I'm going to go eat junk food with the kids.

Happy reading!

message 6571: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Reality TV is so dumb. My biggest gripe is Dancing With The Stars. I flat DO NOT get the appeal of that show whatsoever. I fall asleep within minutes. Also...shows like Survivor, The Bachelor, and all those I just think are totally dumb and pointless.

Okay...that being said, I do watch American Idol and Biggest Loser :P

message 6572: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 954 comments I'm addicted to Reality TV of the VH1 variety, the trashier, the better. I have bad taste, I know, but sometimes it's good to just shut the brain off.

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Fiona wrote: "....I'm actually looking forward to Eurovision this year. They had some really crazy songs last year. I wish they'd stop singing in English though, it's really annoying...."

But surely it won't be the same without Terry Wogan commentating. He was the main reason I used to watch.

Here in Israel they take it all rather seriously, though less so since cable and having dozens of other choices of what to watch.
We haven't watched for ages though we did like Lordi, the Scandinavian group with the masks that won a few years back.

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Fiona wrote: "..I hate the X-Factor and all reality TV in general. It just takes over every single thing..."

I also hate reality TV it seems to encourage either the contestants or the judges to be cruel.
I like the idea of the US program where they build houses for poor people but it is so badly produced watching it makes me ill.
We now have a whole channel devoted to Big Brother - my mother-in-law and brother-in-law are addicted but it is the only program I have banned my children from watching.

I read Larkrise to Candleford about 30 years ago when the book was 'in'.
We'll probably get the series soon. At the moment we have Cranford which is a bit confusing for me as I am reading the book as well. Although the events and characters are more or less the same the chronology is totally mixed up.

I can hardly remember Israel's last year and the singer was unknown which is unusual for Israel.

This year there is a duet with two girls, an Israeli and an Israeli-Arab, which is causing almost as much controversy as Dana International!
The song is shmaltzy cr*p so it could do well.

I thought the story was that Wogan started off badly by announcing the wrong winner in the UK sing-off. This added to his abusive (and hilarious) remarks during the actual competition led to complaints from the organisers that he wasn't taking it seriously. At which point he decided he'd had enough.

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Saved by Grace, Your right she is in heaven and not suffering anymore. However it's always hard for us that are left behind to sort through what we went through with them. My nephew who was only 26 died last July. I stood their and watched him die. It was torturous on me and my family. I do get some peace knowing he is in a better place.

Hang in there Grace.

Good morning Allison. I see we both like Diana Gibaldon's books. What are some good series books you recommend?

message 6584: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) erm...try Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness series. I've never read them, but they're supposed to be comparable to Outlander. I am trying to get to them.

Otherwise, I like the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig, the Lady Jane series by Tasha Alexander...and probably a ton others, haha.

message 6585: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sanddune)
Thanks Allison. That is a great start for me. I appreciate your reply. Have you tried the Hamish MacBeth series by MC Beaton? It takes place in the rural north of Scotland, where Hamish is the coppper.

Fiona, in belgium we make fun of our entries. The joke is on Eurovision: 'Belgium, zero points'. Because we are so much around there. Once we did win and whenever we have good entries they come from wallonie:-)

Yes you are right but "A Star is Born' is reality TV so after watching the semi and final of the first season (where Shiri Maimon, our 2005 entry, came second) I'd had enough. Boaz Mauda won the fifth season.

message 6592: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Saturday my youngest son was a flag bearer in the big St. Patrick's Day parade. He was with the mayor and soooo excited. It's such a huge deal. There were hundreds of guys in kilts. I kept thinking of Outlander and how I said they weren't attractive.

Well...it's not the kilt, it's the guy inside! Some of them were very, very nice. I will try to have Shaun post some of the pictures I took. Eye candy!!!

message 6593: by [deleted user] (new)

Kandice: That sounds like so much fun. Did you get lots of pictures?

message 6594: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona: good luck at the Dentist. I don't like the dentist either. I still have 2 months. Thank goodness!

message 6595: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think I've ever seen a Star is Born at least the reality TV show. I did see the movie with Barbara however!

message 6596: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I did take lots of pictures. I was planning on printing lots on one page and sending them to you guys. I do have to say, some of those guys SHOULD NOT have had on kilts! But the ones that looked good, looked very, very good!

message 6597: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Augh, I've been watching One Tree Hill since it started...I loved it in high school, but now...too much drama!! I'm too far in to stop though...perhaps it will be cancelled soon. :P
