I would not give up food for all th world! I enjoy eating way too much, but sleeping, that I would like to be able to give up.
The girls I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic with last night and I got to talking about books, and they were like "oh well, we don't really read we just like Nicholas Sparks..."I was like, MAN...forget you guys. I wanna hang out with Jackie/Fiona/Kandice/Heather/TNBBC people! hahaha.
I haven't seen Rome yet, but I've heard good things about it. I'll be pushing that one if I like it.
yeah, I added Rome to my NF queue. Which now has like 35 things on it, and it usually has like 3. LOL.
LOL...only 35? Try 200 and something!! I add all the movies I see coming out that interest me. I try not to talk to people about books face to face. They're just not as passionate and they think I'm crazy when I start talking about it. Like I have no life or something :/
The reason I enjoyed Rome so much, is that it was so close to Colleen McCullough's version. I have read tons on that time period, I'm fascinated, but hers just seems the most likely. Kind of raunchy and incredibly political. I mean those guys didn't take a leak without thinking of the political ramifications!
yeah...I had to reign myself in last night, it was sad....although (Fiona you should be proud of my book pushing ability) I did manage to get off with a nice Graceling rec just the same...because one of the girls read Twilight and said she enjoyed YA fantasy based on that.
AUGH! I want to read your Rome series so bad Kandice!! I just know once I start I'll want to read them all, so I'm trying to read a few things before I get going with it.
That's true! They are incredibly dense, so they are not quick reads! I adore the glossary in the back of each, and will occasionally read just that to get my "fix" of Rome. If you like mafia movies or books, you will be struck by the similarities.
Fiona wrote: "Not many people really GET the extent to which I love books. I mean, some - they like reading but it's just a hobby to them."Exactly! I don't have any friends not on GR that understand me. *sniff*
It has just been bugging me lately, now that GR piles on books I want to be able to talk about them :-P my friends need to get with it.
Fiona wrote: "Yes yes yes Otori series starting with [b:Across the Nightingale Floor|77160|Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, Book 1)|Lian Hearn|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170......."I added it for the future :P My library does actually have the 1st and 3rd ones though, so I'd just have to loan out the middle one from somewhere else.
Just because something is added, it does not neccessarily follow that it will be read! I know what you mean. Only a few of my friends read, and it's really just quick snatches when they have nothing better to do. I never understood that.
Fiona wrote: "I feel like watching that cartoon about those dinosaurs... what's it called now?Oh, I want An American Tale!"
THE LAND BEFORE TIME! Best freaking dinosaur movie ever.
I loved that movie when I was a kid.
My husband and I took my baby brother to see that when we were dating! He loved that movie, and I thought it was the sweetest thing for Vinny to take us. Petrie was my favorite.
I only have one friend that reads, but not as much anymore because she has kids now. I need to get new friends :/I saw old Disney movies this past weekend- Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid and series.
my first dog died when I was like...7, and my mom rented me that movie because she knew it was my favorite before she told me he was dead :(
I actually can see reading only 1 or 2 a year, if they really read those! What I don;t get is when people take 3 or 4 months to read one book. How do you retain any of the story for that stretch of time? Crazy!
I think some people rather veg out in front of the TV rather than do something productive with their minds.

I'm so tired hearing about the damn Bachelor and his stupid decision. You can't find love on TV...get over it!! Only one couple has worked out on that stupid show. Why are people so surprised?
Jackie wrote: "I'm so tired hearing about the damn Bachelor and his stupid decision. You can't find love on TV...get over it!! Only one couple has worked out on that stupid show. Why are people so surprised?"I 100% DESPISE that show.
I have never watched The Bachelor, and I really dislike those kinds of shows. My husband, however, would watch raunchy talk shows all day if he was off, and can't get enough of "reality" t.v. Blech!!!
Fiona wrote: "Not all TV is vegetative though. A good TV drama like Lilies, P&P and al..."Oh, I agree. However, if you hear many of the conversations, particularly in my office they're just talking about "reality" tv shows like American Idol, The Bachelor, etc. They don't talk about TV dramas or anything like that.
It's some poor smuck who is looking for love and has 20 women vying for his attention. He narrows it down to 2 and then proposes to the last women standing. Last night was the last show. He sent one girl home, cried like a baby over her and then proposed to the other girl. One the reunion show, which airs the same night, he broke off the engagement and proposed to the girl he rejected. Now tonight they have another reunion show to talk about it. I caught it on the news, I didn't actually see the show plus people keep talking about it in the office.
What pisses me off is that the guy has a young kid. So now this kid is stuck in the middle of his dad's love life for the world to see.
UGH! I didn't know that about this season, Jackie...no one at my office watches it, luckily. What an idiotic waste of time.
